Brad Hardie was quite a surprise and the Malthouse connection is interesting too. I remember him winning the brownlow. At the time, there were a lot of puzzling counts. Keith Greig won it twice because he looked like a 2 year old filly with white anklets. Greg Wells won it for Melbourne when he adopted the anklets and peroxided his hair. Graeme Teasdale looked like a male model and I always assumed that a number of the umpis had a crush on him. And then there was the Footscray game plan where Brad could charge down the ground from the back pocket at a time when players stayed in their zones. I just had a look at Brad's stats and he had as many in his second year as his first, yet Malthouse dragged him in the second year and the battlelines were set and Hardie was never going to win. Josh Jenkins take note.

Then he goes to Brisbane and is largely forgotten. As he said last night, he did kick 50 goals one season which surprises me now.

Evidently he was in a fire. I always thought his motley face was due to many Robbos down the pub after work. He works on 6PR in Perth which is the racing station over here, and he wrote a column for the sunday paper. I read it once or twice. I thought he was a stirrer and that's about it. No one ever treated him as any different. I think he was a big supporter of Mick, but then again he might have been the opposite.

Next year I expect Adam Cooney and Brian Wilson to get nominated...
Wells is no Brownlow medalist

Playing for Collingwood got him over the line :)

I had the same thought but after thinking about it - it's hard to see ANY Brownlow medallist not getting into the HoF .
See a bloke with three top three finishes and performing at the level Daniel Kerr did is infinitely more deserving than a Woewodin type. And even then, Kerr would be a borderline inductee in my eyes. So I think that whilst most Brownlow medalists would walk into the Hall of Fame, it definitely shouldn’t be treated as a given.

No, Mike was a massive arse hole.....don't get me wrong. His dummy spit was pathetic and cost us a flag. But Buckley has been close to impeccable up until this point. Now he's undone everything.

Simple question....Why? Why say those thongs and why say them now?

If Buckley has a media advisor, then that advisor should be sacked.
Maybe because he was asked

Micks been sticking the needle to Collingwood since late in the 2011 season. Was a big fan of his prior to that time but he has dumped on my club. He is positive with some of the players he coached at Collingwood but I suspect hopes the rest of us fail.

Was unfortunate Nathan took his bait this time. Was on a hiding to nothing to speak out at this time. That’s Bucks biggest mistake in this relationship so far.

Still if you want to see the real MM and NB relationship before the coaching game crushed it look at this article

Ohttps://amp.couriermail.com.au/sport/afl/mick-malthouses-ultimate-team/news-story/b30e706ccb0ecf3370c05897c2637b2f

This piece came before the relationship breakdown and so is probably a more
accurate gauge of where MM really rates Bucks.

In this article and another at around the same time ( Age I think but can’t track it down) MM had Bucks as not only the best player he coached but also his best captain ahead of Worsfold.

It was a typical MM rewrite of Bucks history today to say ”He did his hamstring so I didn’t get a lot of him”. Truth was he coached Bucks for 8 seasons and 8 seasons as captain. He rated him the best player and best captain he coached before he fell out with him.

End of the day MM burnt a lot of bridges with the Collingwood faithful so I don’t really rate him.

I agree with you - just my perspective on how things might work, not how they should work.

Hahaha seriously? That’s what you take from me calling out Nathan’s BS? Wow.

This thread is meant to be appreciation for the effort, achievement and great career of Mick Malthouse. He did great things for Richmond, Footscray, West Coast, Collingwood and Carlton. Won finals with all four clubs he coached.

Now for Collingwood, Malthouse took us to finals what 8 seasons outta 12. That phenomenal. Instead of praising his hard work and skill in this thread, those with a bais toward Buckley come on here to be negative.

Then when I counter your negative attitudes on malthouse, giving you a different perspective on Buckley’s tenure (and actually a more accurate account) and don’t toe the party line, you all claim foul and play the victim. Just like Nathan did on radio today.

Trust me mate Collingwood since I was born. And when people, ungrateful supporters, take their venom out on Malthouse - the guy who dragged us up from a wooden spoon and carry on like Buckley is Jesus - I call out the BS. You can’t take a tunnel visioned approach to MM and then not use the same criteria to asssess Nathan.

What Nathan said this morning was selfish, egotistical and not in the best interests of Collingwood. You can’t sugar coat it. The day after MM is inducted in the hall of fame he decides to unload? Wtf?

Nathan’s focus should be 100% on winning the 2019 premiership. And today took his eye massively off the prize. How bout ya spend more time implementing a red time strategy and less time talking drivel on the radio Nathan... cause that would be in the best interests of Collingwood ... thanks babe!
Ffs can someone do something about this obvious troll? Any other team board and this guy would be gone

No problems, intended that to build on the point and convey my opinion, not to be accusatory :)

Did l mention loved by Eddie or Bucks? I am sure as members, supporters, past players have alot of respect, even love for Mick, in terms of bringing a premiership to the club, and basically brought the club from cellar dwellers to play in 4 grand finals. I don't like as a bloke, but l love what he did for the footy club.
I too remember his contribution but for me his trashing of the club and especially Eddie - who saved his sorry arse - on the eve of the 2011 finals and since has taken away any shred of respect I had for him.

I think Bucks was tipped over the edge with Malthouse’s coach box ban comment. Sudden ‘new’ recollections like this smack of a man desperate for a headline rather than a custodian of the truth. I remember that handover period and Bucks had the demeanour and grace of someone new and eager to learn - the opposite of Mick the Revisionist’s recent recollection of Bucks laying down the law. Malthouse didn’t have to drag this up right now and reshape the truth to have a pop at Buckley to celebrate his Hall of Fame entry - therefore I don’t have a problem with Bucks returning the favour.

Haven't yet read the whole thread, but as soon as I saw that troll Ttrraavviss come out of the woodwork to spew hus bile and revisionist history, i knew that any reasoned debate or sharing of views would be poisoned. This poster is a Buckley hater and has proven by his posts over several years that he is a troll and should be BANNED from our board.

Totally agree, didn't need to go their and really should just have applauded Mick for his achievement and should of replied to Gerard's questioning of their relationship "simply not going to go their Gerard" let's move on.
Timing could have been better. Considering how Bucks has remained quiet through the whole saga, I suspect Malthouse made a statement during the ceremony which may not have been all that accurate.

Turncoat! Chose the enemy for vengeance (and his coaching record). Will be forgiven for the length of each 10 year reunion.
I for one think MM did a great job at Carlton, set them on the right path and helped keep them there.....Well done, even after leaving you helped fill us with joy.

If you listen to the interview, he was responding to a question, so the timing was not his decision

Most of what Bucks said is not being recounted in the 10 second sound bites doing the rounds
Last year Bucks spoke about how the media manipulate stories just to get a sensationalist story circulating....here we have a classic example of what he was talking about

Listening to the whole interview is key. Just a discussion.
In ways Buckley was praising the focus and dedication of Mick and saying he understood him.

But the media will do what they do.
Sometimes better to say zero.

Mick has been getting away with murder for years trashing our club in the adoring brain dead sports media.

Copped some of his own medicine back and like all bullies didn't like being on the receiving end.

It is actually true that Bucks banned him from the coaches box. By this stage he'd had enough of being white anted by the master manipulator. MM spent the last half of 2011 getting players to push for a change in the agreement. He doubled down on this with working his mates in the media (Damien Barrett I'm looking at you-you were his ghost writer for a while).

Bucks may be a lot of things (to some people on here) but an idiot is not one. MM had already morally reneged on the deal. Can you imagine what it would have been like with MM doing from inside the club what he has done from afar.

MM had no option to renege on the deal because by this stage he wasn't wanted at the club by anyone but a handful of players. The only job description he was being offerred at the end was that of janitor and the only time he would have been in the coaches box was to clean it up at the end of games.

Not sure about the beard either.

Funny, for a while some of the successful flag coaches had facial hair:

Malthouse, Barassi, Matthews, Blight, Jewel, Walls, Jesaulenko.
