Incorrect.

Unfortunately, I can't quote the conversation as the thread is locked. But here are the relevant parts of the exchange:

Me: "I'll happily place money that we don't pick up a single ruck in the upcoming draft (unforseen trades of current ruckmen on our list excluded)"

You: "I'll happily place money that you're dead wrong"

Me: "ok.
but just to clarify, if any rucks (Hille aside) leave, I am expecting that player is replaced."

You: "I still can't see us having 2 pure rucks and 2 part-timers on the list"

If you want to check the original thread, it is within: Trade/Draft Talk - Free Agency rules in OP (keep it all in here)

Or if there are any mods that like to either see the honouring of bets or eth-dog humiliated for a month, please feel free to quote the above posts in order?

As an outsider it's pretty clear you lose here Towno,
No way Gumby was or will ever be considered a Ruckman..Show me the dreamteam link where he was available as a ruckman,or even dual position, he's a forward..
You've admitted Thurlow is a ruck, and no way is he like for like with Gumby, he's just poor old Gumby...

Despite the fact that Gumby was in fact rucking all through his final year in the VFL... Either way... I didn't quote the entire conversation as there was a lot to quote. If I had, you wouldn't be saying I had lost the bet.

"Hille's going to retire. That leaves us with Ryder, Bellchambers, Gumbleton and Daniher, and even the two middle one's aren't guaranteed to stay.I'll happily place money that you're dead wrong"
That is a direct quote from eth-dog so I'm pretty sure he can't argue winning the bet on those grounds!!

So yeah, back to stuff people care about...

Keane and Dodoro deserve a lot of credit for picking Gleeson from genuine obscurity.

Hooker and Gleeson were both selections in the 50's. You strike GOLD if they become very good players.

No-one gets to be drafted without an inkling of what is required IMO. You can still be a jerk - off, party animal as long as you meet the key KPI's. Culture shock and homesickness are poor validation for a CBF attitude.

Worked well for the dinosaurs who cemented their status as legends of the game, but does not apply to the modern rigours of training and media/social commitment.

Lockett would not get a gig today, hiding from media and lack of meaningful training/tardiness, would preclude him from a start in the glammed-up senior team.

I'm conflicted as to where I stand. Raw talent and a matchwinner, or subservience to the ethos? Bloody hard call.

What is a clear standout for mine is the stuff you can't teach kids (decision making, poise, work ethic)

The size, aerobic capacity, running etc. will all come in time and marry up with the knowhow already to make them very good AFL prospects.

Well done Adrian, Merv & Co.

You just need to nail one draft that you get 4+ VERY good AFL quality players from and you can go placing by building around them.
(I keep thinking back to the Dogs who selected Murphy (250 games), Giansiracus (251 games), Mitch Hahn (181 games), Lindsay Gilbee (206 games), Ryan Hargreave (203 games) from the 1999 AFL draft.)

If we can get a VERY good draft from any one of the 10, 11, 12, 13 drafts then we should be well on our way to some shot at overall glory.

Lets not forget Hocking, Howlett, Baugley, Bellchambers, Hibberd and Crameri who have made enormous contributions for late (even later) picks

I wreckon I'm onto something here. Had a look at the last few premiership teams from the 2000's and they all had ONE draft that allowed them at least 4 100+ game players that were crucial parts to each premiership.

Our 2012 draft will hopefully be THIS draft for us. Joe Daniher, Jason Ashby, Dyl Van Unen, Martin Gleeson, Nic Kommer, Sean Gregory, Will Hams all a big chance to be the one we NAIL.

*crosses fingers*
