He will get the vest ... Which is a shame cause he would need at least a quater warm up so I could see him coming in at the third for miller
I don't see the point in giving a big guy the vest... The vest works best with a midfielder coming on fresh when everyone is slowing down and making an impact... I doubt he'll get it.

It's a very gutsy selection in a very big match for the club - it could be genius if it works - I assume they are looking to expose Adelaide's inexperienced Talls in the backline... My only worry is if it's wet, we could be too top heavy and it's a tough game for a kid to make his debut.

I wish him the best of luck though, hopefully he snags a few...

Considering last weeks Coburg report suggested he got tired in the second half, I'm guessing the plan is he'll be the sub (or subbed off).

Why would you go in with a player you plan to sub off? You're saying he's not up to playing a full game - and if so, why play him at all?

Are you suggesting the never decide on the sub at the team selection? Of course they do.

I dare say they also have a good idea who they'll take off (subject to change due to injuries, or someone playing a shocker).

Elton is getting a game because structurally, he's the closest thing we have to Vickery so he'll play tall forward and ocasionally relieve in the ruck until sometime in the 3rd when (depending on form/injury) he'll be subbed of for a running player.

In a week or two, when Vickery is back, he'll go back to Coburg, having had a taste of the top level and continue his development.

Of course I'm not suggesting they don't pre-plan subs, and I agree it's great for his development... I just worry that in such a massive game for us - if we win this we set up the 2nd half of our season - why would you go into the game with a player you think will only be able to play a half? Isn't Miller in the team for Structure while Vickery is out?

Anyhow, what would I know - I trust our coaches...I hope the young fella rips it up, snags a few and we win!

I think the structure issues are more to do with the Ruck. Ivan will try all day, but he needs a bit of a break, especially if he's to play out the rest of the season, and Miller, at 194cm just doesn't cut it. (Griff isn't an option because of his shoulders).

I agree about wanting him to rip it up though...4-5 goals in the first half and they wouldn't dream of taking him off :)

Surely Miller should be the sub, let Elton get 3 quarters in. Hopefully. Looks like they're bringing in new players as subs these days, gets them past the first few games of running around like a headless chook.

Typical Richmond painting themselves into a corner with silly & reactionary public decrees before the start of seasons that don't need to be made just to appease the ferals and keep our name in the media. (this one mainly coming on the back off the hysterical outcry last year over Tuck.) This is a long-term selection and step in the right direction IMO.:thumbsu:
or should fans not take them so litterally.
