Congratulations Essendon

Great to see the Geelong supporters acting gracious in defeat. Great win boys, really does make you proud to be a member of the red and black. Good to see us bring back our early season form. The defensive pressure is back boys!

Having had some friendly banter on here during the week, 'twould be remiss of me not to offer my own congratulations to such a spirited and tactically-astute performance. Important for GFC staff and players to reflect and learn from being outplayed and out-thought.

Good luck for the season ahead and for the run to September.

Well done Essendon like many i thought we would have rolled you guys but to the credit of the coach and players you rolled us and made Geelong look very average.

Terrific win Bombers, were clearly the better team all night and deserved to win. Definitely outsmarted us, and tactics and intensity were too good. Well done and hopefully you can persist with the intensity and keep winning games like this until we meet again (Maybe even in September if you can keep up this form?). :thumbsu:

Its hard to accept Cats fans being suddenly being gratious after the way they have carried on trolling us the past 6 months on the main board and laughed at how much they would belt us by.

Thanks for the coaches and the 4 points though.

Yeah fair comment

I for one thought their season was good as gone (and put a thread on main board about this). Not sure thats trolling but just an opinion of how I thought Essendon's year was playing out.

Find it a bit odd myself.

The talk on their board was how far Geelong and talk of resting players for this game. Looks pretty dumb now...

Been disrespected and treated like rubbish by Geelong for a few years now. Last night we finally decided to make a stand.

4 points or 64 points... a win is a win and we'll take it. Big monkey off the back.

It could still be over. Bombers are contesting with Melbourne, North Melbourne, Sydney and Bulldogs for that 7th-8th position. The Bombers showed what genuine intensity for 4 quarters can do, but I wouldn't be making any conclusions at this stage... Not looking at what they've produced for several weeks before last night. I'm still gob smacked at their intensity though.

Triple M reported that the first thing Hird was very clear to the playing group after the win was to not get over excited, it's only 1 win... Was very adamant that the players are not to get ahead of themselves. Good advice I would have thought. They will get Richmond next week off the rebound from a pathetic effort this week. Will be an interesting game. Not one I'd be betting on. ;)

Tonight was everything that's great about footy. I was thinking of not going because the losses were beginning to get depressing, but went anyway and was thrilled by an unlikely win! My heart was in my mouth the whole final quarter, it definitely could have gone either way. So pumped from the win!

Have been getting shit from some Cats supporters in the office all week, can't wait to catch up with them on Monday!

Me too my Boss is a Geelong fan

There are lots of Geelong supporters at my work. They also have been giving me hell. Karma I say. I also cant wait until Monday

"Where's this been the last 5 weeks?"

I can let you know that we're not to sure either

I just hope that we get the same Essendon from last night turning up for a few more games until the season is over.

I'll have to say well done to the Cats as well, where the never gave up going for the win the whole night. Inspiring stuff for their supporters, even with the loss, they show that they'll never give in.

Gutsy.

Cheers Gavin, thought we were lucky, but then you always are when the margin is under a kick.

Thanks Dave, but no I don't think luck was involved. You were too good all night. Too desperate, too committed, prepared to work much harder, and simply the superior team. Much better ball use, especially into the forward line too.

I can't remember a game where so many key players for us (Bartel, Scarlett, Johnson until the last quarter) were so quiet. But no excuses though. Just not good enough.

Congratulations on a thoroughly deserved victory. :thumbsu:

It's all been said, but to add my voice - it was cracker of a game and Essendon were deserving winners. And as I wrote on one of our threads - it was an inspired piece of coaching/psychology to 'back' Paddy Ryder to play this week (after the bake he got last week) - he was easily the most influential player on the ground IMO.

Must also say you lot have been pretty humble in victory, especially reading over this thread and comparing it to the gnashing and crying of certain Hawk morons over on the main board. Kudos and congrats on the win once again. :thumbsu:

I've literally just got back to Sydney after attending the game - my right ear is still blocked up & I haven't read this thread at all (let alone visited my own home board) - but I am compelled to scribe this payment of tribute asap.

Firstly: the best side on the night deservedly got up. Your blokes were so brave & focused that I almost started barracking for them as well. ;) It was a tremendous win, and hopefully signs of good things to come for all of you in the very immediate future.

Secondly: I was basically surrounded by your supporters on the night, & in the midst of their undoubted (& wholly appropriate) jubilation at what was occuring 30 stories below us on the paddock (I was very close to the roof), I have to say that the different Bombers near me (as well as those I chatted to en route to my hotel) were wonderfully respectful towards me and mine, every last one of them.

So congratulations, and thank you. I would have obviously preferred to have got the tick in the W column, but I have to concede a game to any mob, you're it. Especially after enjoying the company of so many generous and knowledgable worshippers of our wondrous indigenous game, who (this time) were attired in red and black.

Welllll, may be concede a game his time. :D;):D

Good luck for the rest of the season.:footy:
