Nice post.

Do you realise that Sam Mitchell barely played half the season?

He missed more than Ablett.

Naitanui also wasn't named in a pocket, he was the starting ruck in the 2012 AA.

I'd ignore his post for those two glaring errors alone.

This doesn't really have anything to do with it.

He kept himself fit and healthy and had a bit of luck in the process. The Brownlow does not take this into account nor should it. He won and definitely deserves to be called a Brownlow Medalist. You are making up criteria that doesn't exist.
He's about 1000 times more deserving than Robert Harvey was in 1997.

Priddis is obviously not the 'best player' in the competition.

Anybody that equates the recipient of the Brownlow medal as the 'best player' has a poor understanding of how the medal is awarded.

Nonetheless, he is a very worthy winner. He is an elite ball-winning/clearance/tackling machine, that is ridiculously consistent, gets the most out of himself, and really stepped up this season by kicking goals and increasing his score involvements. What is even more remarkable is his journey and his humility. Well done Diddy!

Disposal efficiency is a very misleading stat. Priddis bombing 35 m in the air to a 50/50 contest is counted as an efficient disposal. Statistically it is the same as kicking to a teammate lace out while on the lead. Very different kicks but register the same stat.watch any eagles game and you get a fair understanding of how much he hacks the ball.
Crap!

Priddis is better than we give him credit for. Sure there are better players but they didn't play every week or consistently do well every game.
He has some of the best stats in the game and has done for years now. i think it's easy to criticize him but no one else at the Eagles does what he does week in week out despite Appearing to be better or have more potential.

only ablett fyfe were clear standouts from the crowd for me all the other so called favourites had good years but only Priddis was there every game. all the others were just part of the scenery for me talked up by their own supporters and in some cases the media.
Fyfe was the best player i saw live this year he won the derbies for freo curse him but he was good. but he got suspended and it is the fairest and best.

Well done Priddis he should not be embarrassed for winning a Brownlow with some of the best stats in the game.

Apart from bitter Freo supporters
Read through the thread a bit more Hammer. Very few Freo supporters that haven't been well wishers. Probably a far higher ratio of fans from HIS OWN CLUB have been critical.

You somehow always find a way to tie almost any thread into an opportunity to have a crack at the Purple. I guess our recent record v your beloved Cats has made you quite bitter...... but leave it alone will you!

Yeah it's embarrassing there's been more Eagles supporters having a go at him than Freo supporters have.

Some of our "supporters" on that thread on the Eagles board have been cringeworthy.

5 million in-and-under possessions, slow, short, cant kick.

this brownlow is sort of like a diesel williams brownlow, only the winner isnt an arrogant, cheating douchebag.

hmmm, and the hair is different too

Always going to be an extremely polarising player and this really only serves to strengthen the opposing camps.

But from the fans from his own club? It saddens me tbh.

Instead of embracing what is a high point for the club in a down year and being happy for a hard working and genuine bloke, the same peanuts continue to shit on him and try and take it away from him. They can't put aside their vendetta for one day and be genuinely happy for the bloke.

WTF just checked this, can think of at least 10 more deserving winners.
Nothing against Priddis I just think he is a B Grader at best.

And all of those were either injured, suspended or inconsistency. Selwood for instance may be a better player but had an extremely quiet middle. Priddis is just exceptionally consistent.

Good bloke, but an undeserving Brownlow Medallist.

- Ablett injured
- Fyfe suspended for 4 weeks
- Franklin missed a few games

Plus most of the other top prospects had niggles or missed a few games.

All the best to him, it was true humility to admit he felt embarrassed - but IMO he doesn't deserve to be called a "Brownlow Medallist".

He's a worthy guy, but not a worthy winner.

Couldn't disagree more. I could probably find holes in dozens of Brownlow years if I was to apply your criteria above. Shit happens throughout a season and the winner is almost always the one who has played out the year in its entirety.

Congrats go to Matt Priddis...a worthy winner. A surprising one but a worthy one nonetheless. His win is one for all the hard nut inside mids who get little to no accolades but make their team all the better for having them in the team.

Well done on a very good season.

There's a lot of miserable pricks in this thread.

It's not like he votes for himself.

Worth a re-quote.

Everytime something good happens I know that when I come onto BF I"ll be met with multitudes of snivelling little shits who just feel as if they have to have a whine for the sake of doing so.

And yes there are plenty of snivelling little shits in this thread.

Any one of Ablett, selwood, grey,Kennedy, franklin could have won it and it would have been justified.

The problem I think most people have with Priddis is his ball use. He does not get tagged because opposition are more concerned with shuey who is a far more dangerous player than Priddis. Priddis gets left to his own devices because his impact is minimal and somehow he had bradburied a brownlow
I hope you cried yourself to sleep on Monday night.

Well done, you managed to drop the IQ of every poster who read your post. A fine achievement.

^this.

An argument that he didn't deserve it is just petty. The Brownlow has always been like this, and every couple of years there is an arguement about whether or not the winner is the best player or not.
Priddis had a very good consistent year, and did enough to regularly get the ump's votes, and he didnt get suspended = a deserved winner.

He's a worthy guy, but not a worthy winner.

The list of premiership sides throughout the history of the game is littered with sides who either through good luck, good management or a combination of both have beaten the more fancied side for the flag.

I can think of the Eagles, Crows and possibly Brisbane in '04 as sides that have copped injuries to multiple key personnel at exactly the wrong time of the season.

I certainly don't think any less of the premiers as a result. The fans of the sides that cop the injuries may lament their misfortune but you generally don't see the level of ridicule that we're seeing for this bloke who just happened to have everything go right for him and he was good enough for the entire season to capitalise on it.

Really happy for him. Seems like a cracking bloke, and a great story.

Interestingly, Josh Kennedy and Matt Priddis stats are identical. Yet one is considered one of the best players in the league, the other is considered a battler.

Priddis's main knock is that he is not a great user of the ball, yet Kennedy is in the same boat.
