Hawks v Cats is going to be the marquee matchup over the next three to five years. We'll see you in September this year and probably in the next few as well.

This game is a harbinger for more tough, tight, good footy games between the two teams. The rivalry is back :thumbsu:

Let's hope we meet again.

If we do it right, it wil be the last day of the season, cuase thats the only way we are gonna meet again I think with the way you're playing.

You guys might as well sit back and enjoy your ride there. The rest of us have to work. ;)

Lets keep it around, 86k was a great way to celebrate two of the middle teams.

I actually like the rivalry Hawthorn and Geelong have. It's a strange one that can go places... almost respectful.

Buddy shat himself... 2 of the biggest chokes I have ever seen!

That's buddy.... you can't help but admit he failed himself... he owned Scarlett tonight... the only reason why he didn't kick 8 goals tonight was because he kicked poorly, not because Scarlett contained him. That's the nature of the beast.

You guys are a great team. Please try to be gracious in victory.

Well done to Hawks coming over to our board in this thread. :thumbsu:

Kardinia Park and Pussies_07_Flag - #### off you stupid pathetic w***ers! As per usual you two are doing your best to paint us badly in the most pitiful way. You know where to do it and that's not here so get lost. You don't impress anyone.

Shattered we lost, but to your credit, the cats played well under immense pressure, and I'm proud of the efforts of our boys. Shame we couldn't kick straighter. All the cats fans I spoke to in my highly innebriated state after game state were fantastic and decent so I'm not gonna say anything bad about your club, even though I hate you bastards!

Well done, and can't wait for the challenge to play you in a final with your best player and 3 other stars playing

Great game, great atmosphere, great teams

I disagree, on the last point.

Let me say this once. It is the absence of a player like Buddy Franklin that makes Geelong such a fantastic team. The workload is shared. Geelong work for Geelong. :thumbsu:

Hawthorn work for Buddy.

Geelong players look to set-up their teammate at every chance. Buddy looks to score at every chance, when the chance isnt great, and he finally realises it the better option is gone.

Make no mistake, this Geelong side is the best we have ever seen. :thumbsu:

I think I am normally a pretty gracious winner; I very rarely make fun of the losing team, especially since everyone knows Geelong has been through plenty of times before and I am a huge believer of karma. However, the trolling bay13 Hawk supporters make is so so very hard not to be snippy and offending to those few who come in here and act graciously.

So... it was a great game. Best ive seen this season thus far.

Don't wanna seem to be sinking the boots into the Hawks here but I tend to agree. Lance and his remarkable attributes could be just (if not more) damaging in terms of setting more goals up for team mates rather than earning opportunities solely for himself. When he starts/learns to work up more than he does and be better at it and passing to others in a better position (like Williams nearly always is, great lead and set shot) imo Hawthorn will improve by at least 5 goals.

I think it's too late.

They have Buddy Vision. And he has tunnel vision.

Geelong wont lose to that mob anytime soon. :thumbsu:

Am rapt that we won for the obvious reasons.
But am also rapt that we won because it was such a great game that if we lost i didnt wanna pull out the whole no ablett (best player) ling (best tagger) milburn (best rebounder) and wojinski (lightning). I am really glad that the hawks supporters come on here and congratulate not take the piss because i am sure i would have congratulated if we had of lost.

Another reason i am happy is because i have a friend that barracks for hawthorn and even after we won the granny last year he still managed to pop in the fact that hawthorn had beaten geelong some 20 odd weeks earlier.

Thanks to the hawthorn supporters and go cats!

I think the Buddy vision is ok. But he needs to lose the tunnel vision and quit turning his back on the play when he is not in a great position. I don't blame him for it as Hawthorn seem to have given him license to shoot whenever and wherever he likes but I think they'd improve a fair bit if he was told to pass if there's someone in better position (has Williams, Rioli and Rough up forward plus hard running mid fielders like Bateman, Hodge, etc streaming forward and in good position a lot) and get up the ground even more.

Well done Catters.

I

No excuses just admiration for the way that a few of yours go about it. Selwood ... how good is this kid ?

See ya soon.

no excuses, eh???

look at what this two-faced prat posted elsewhere

"Hawks failed to capitalise on good opportunities tonight, but let's not pretend the umpiring didn't have an impact. Lots to like about the performance though and we'll not start $3 against the Cats again for another decade

:Dtrue to form, eh JD?

Congrats Cats. I am in awe of your team and even more so after seeing them live. Even without Ablett and Ling, your team rose to the occasion.

The game was great and really portrayed our two teams in a positive light. We should have played each other twice this year instead of just the one.

Hopefully we can meet up in September for a rematch.

Umpiring had absolutely no impact. You could point to a bunch of decisions either way (the free against Harry Taylor for instance, the touched mark, a bunch of missed free kicks in our forward line, some missed 50s) which could have impacted the game. I was very very happy to Clarkson talking about the umpires - coaches that start talking about umpiring are often in deeper trouble than they realise.

As for missed opportunities, we kicked 2.7 in the second quarter alone, often very gettable kicks. Again, happy to hear the Hawks talking up how close they are, the reality is the gulf between the teams is wider than the margin would suggest, even without throwing another four All Australians and a B&F winner into our team (and our fastest player).

Having said that, I'd be pretty happy if I was a Hawthorn supporter, they have some absolutely cracking players who put everything into every contest. I know he had a poor night but Luke Hodge is a genuine hard nut, and Campbell Brown is among the bravest players in the competition. Rioli for his part is already a star. I think they are a season and three or four players off having a club that will be very difficult to beat.
