GREATER Western Sydney has secured the signature of Stephen Coniglio on a landmark seven-year deal.

After protracted contract talks that saw the gun midfielder field multimillion-dollar offers from various clubs including Carlton and Hawthorn, Coniglio will be a Giant until 2026.

It becomes the longest individual deal in Giants history and will keep him at the club until the age of 32.

No one wants to play for the Hawforn Football Club in 2020, a merger seems the likely option from here on out.

What a basket case. Lynch, Sloane, Coniglio, Carlisle, Shiel, Heeney, Buddy...no one wants to go to Hawfs.

Best they can do is a 5th string mid from Sydney and a broken down winger from GWS that is basically just a white long-distance runner.

Hawks will trade a 7th rounder to GWS for Patton
Hawks will qet Coniglio as a free agent

Hey I'm no racist mate, Italians are fantastic people and I look forward to welcoming Steve Coniglio into our ranks later this year. Even the organized crime element is impressive given how wildly successful the Sicilian Mafia's been, as further evidenced by the Frank Costa fruit & veg racket.

SOS on the other hand is another of these excessively protected father/son types who can do no wrong in the eyes of supporters. Regardless of how obviously they screw up they can always rely on mindless sycophants like yourself to back them at every turn, which ironically becomes counterproductive to the well-being of their clubs in the long run.

So naturally I've asked myself if Jason Dunstall had've butchered Hawthorn's list the way SOS did, was caught drugging-up our players like Hird, or coached us into the ground like Nafan Noflags or Crazy Vossy, would I still blindly defend him because he was the perfect footballer? Sadly we'll never know given The Chief's record of managing our football department was as flawless as his goalkicking but I'd like to think myself capable of embracing such a situation with both eyes open.
Get on Bigfooty team boards and you'll be surrounded by one-eyed fools who believes their club is always right because they view any constructive criticism as an attack on its very sovereignty, but as Bay13 posters we need to rise above such base herd mentality and stare the truth in the face when required. It isn't much of a stretch to grasp that jobs like list management and coaching require vastly different skillsets compared with actually playing the game, so is it really so surprising some men can be wildly good at one but poor at the other?
Cogs would've loved watching the Hawks take ANOTHER monster s**t on GWS for the second time this year tonight.... as opposed to Carlton being pumped almost to the tune of 100 points by them. :$:$:$:$

Its abundantly clear who has the better coach, the better culture, and the better future. Coniglio will choose Hawthorn if he's remotely intelligent.
Farkin lol

I wonder how much Uncle Gil threw into the pot.

Lol Hawfs.

Even Brad Hill who has been there doesn't want to go back.

AFL can now stick the over paid injury prone Patton up Gil’s corrupt arse!

Hawf and Carlton fans throwing their toys out if the cot on social media, apparently “fed up with Gil”

Lawl

My toys are still in the cot.

Much happier seeing another club throw a 7 year 7 figure contract at a bloke with a bung knee.

I'd have been all excited to see him run out in blue, but not in the least upset to not. Back then I said that GWS had dodged a bullet not landing Buddy because the time comes where they were going to need that money to keep Cameron. Similar principles apply.

Not sure the fuss.

Offer me $10 million over 7 years guaranteed and Id play for Geelong wearing Essendon underwear !

Id even drive one of their s**tty Fords.

Isn't that what you offered?

Id be amazed if we offered more thsn 5 years snd more than $1m given noone at Hawthorn has ever got more that sort of offer.

And its what we offered Buddy. Who is far more important a player.

All offered 7 and was either 1.1or 1.4. He chose to stay for $1m.

I havent seen any solid info on our offer. Ive also seen Carlton offered $1.6m.

So Id say its all kinds of guesses. Particularly if it came from the same ITK who declared him at Hawthorn or Carlton.

The ones on our board who saw it falling through havent mentioned dollars.

But I assume we will be linked with someone new by the end of today and the circus will start again.

TPP have increased by over 30% since then.

1 mil in 2013 dollars is better than 1.3 in 2020. In fact more, given that the largest share of the increases have gone into top end players.

True. But we arent winning flags at the moment so players wont be taking unders.

Id say a few would have seen significant increases. The 20% disappears fast.

Yeah, it's an interesting equation. Or set of equations club by club.

Depending on which source you look at, and how they make the count, there are between 6 and 9 players on 7 figures in 2019.

I wonder how that list compares to the 9 "best" players in the game. Seems right now is a really good time to be an available mature player.

Coniglio would not be in the top 10 right now. Nor is Buddy.
