Toast Connor Blakely Rd 11 Rising Star Nom

Only 4 of the 23 rising star players nominated spent less time on the ground than Blakely did for the 2016 season. So it is somewhat understandable that he didn't get as much attention as many of us think he probably deserved. But to give some idea how he performed in 2016, when his time on ground is considered, I have shown some of Blakely's rankings when time on ground is taken in to account, for each category of normal player statistics.
For example, Blakely had a total of 304 disposals for the year and spent 1,129 minutes (and 35 seconds) on the ground. Which equates to 1 disposal every 3.71 minutes. He was ranked 1st out of the 23 nominated rising stars.

So some of the results for Blakely are;
mins/Disposal:........Blakely 1st@3.71
mins/HitOuts:.........Blakely 2nd@25.10, 1st@24.52 was Peter Wright:GC
mins/Tackles:.........Blakely 3rd@20.17, 1st@16.42 Josh Dunkley:WB
mins/i50s:..............Blakely 2nd@27.55, 1st@24.69 Christian Petracca:ME
mins/Clearances:.....Blakely 2nd@21.72, 1st@19.67 Clayton Oliver:ME
mins/FreesFor:........Blakely 2nd@70.58, 1st@69.19 James Sicily:HA (NB: FreesAgnst: 15th@125.48, 1st@916.30 Tom Barrass:WC)
mins/ContestedPs:....Blakely 2nd@8.75, 1st@8.64 Clayton Oliver:ME
mins/UncontestedPs:.Blakely 1st@6.24
mins/FantasyTotal:....Blakely 1st@1.00, (NB: Rising Star winner Callum Mills:SY, ranked 8th, was 1.32 minutes per AFL Fantasy point)

For full disclosure, his rankings in all other stats are Kicks: 2nd, HandBalls: 2nd, Goals: 19th, ScoringShots: 17th, Rebounds: 7th, Clangers: 13th (2nd for Disposals/Clangers), ContestedMarks: 12th, MarksI50: 19th, 1%ers: 10th, Bounces: 14th, GoalAssists: 21st, DisposalEfficiency: 9th.

My main point is, if Blakely can build his endurance and maintain those stats for 80+% Time On Ground each game, then he's going to be a very handy midfielder.

I think he's going to be very good for us, a dedicated footy player that will bleed purple for the next 10 years.

Blakely stepping up could be one of the reasons we appear willing to let Barlow go. Both good accumulators who's disposal could be a bit better, yet Connor has age on his side.

(Don't get me wrong, I believe we MUST retain Mick.)

^^ Was Lyon pushed by circumstances to play yoof or was it all part of his secret plan? I don't know but its going to be an interesting 2017. Strap yourself in.
