No it really isn't. We've lost grand finals to most clubs over the course

It is an abnormal season......but there is no way the AFL weren't going to play at all if they could avoid it. THere are thousands of jobs at stake as well as the longer term financial health of the game. People seem unable to make this connection

Ultimately a 17 rounds season will be played and a premiership will be awarded. I for one am getting in to it
You hit the financial nail on the head.
The AFL has backed itself into a corner with it's poor expansion deci
Tell that to Fitzroy who were squeezed out to make way for Port Adelaide :)
I agree with you, but that was a slightly different thing in that a major sponsor suddenly called in a debt and lodged an application to send the club into liquidation.
The current need for revenue stems back to the GC and GWS decisions and what they have cost.
Rather than completely new start up clubs, the good business decision would have been to relocate a couple of the Melb based clubs that are consistent receivers of "prop-up" funding from the AFL.
I know this would stir up passions and some supporters of the relocated teams would drop off but, as was shown with Brisbane/Fitzroy, some would stay loyal and this would have provided a better base than the zero that GC and GWS started with.
There would also have been a player base which could have been topped up with additional draft concessions but the biggest impact would have been the reduced financial drain on the AFL. If you assume the relocated clubs would have received the funding provided to GC & GWS, the savings would have been the funding the have received in the 10 years since the expansion took place. In this period the AFL would have saved an extremely conservative $200 million, probably closer to $300 million, in payments. Some of that would have been lost through reduced revenue from broadcasting rights but there can be no doubt that the AFL would be considerably healthier financially and less desperate for this season to proceed.

Essendon continues to cheat and ignore rules because the AFL continually try to help them get away with it. They have a culture built around deceptive behavior, they are a morally bankrupt organisation.

If they had been stripped of their 1993 premiership which was won by systematic cheating, they may not have done the same in 2000.

If a blind eye wasn't turned to underhanded payments in 2000, maybe they don't engage in a full club performance-enhancing drug regime.

If the AFL didn't try their hardest to get them off the drug cheating, they wouldn't continue to break rules around drafting and Covid.

They are that spoilt child that never got disciplined, so continues to misbehave and throw tantrums.

I've hit the nail on the head but you missed it unfortunately

The expansion decision has no bearing on why the AFL need to play this season. The jobs they are preserving would just be distributed differently

Bit rich coming from a club who openly admitted to tanking games for they can get the number 1 pick

I'm all on the hating Essendon train but you can't blame Essendon for this

Blame the player

Move. The. Victorian. Teams. Now. Every game in WA, SA, QLD and NSW for the next month and a half

Should be a Tasmanian hub also.

No idea why Hawthorn and North are playing each other in Melbourne this weekend, destroys that future possibility.

The AFL should legitimately mix this weekends Carlton & Melbourne and Hawthorn & North fixtures around to enable Hawthorn and North to head up a Tasmanian hub with an additional 2 x teams ~ 1 x additional teams based out of Hobart, 1 x additional out of Launceston....

I personally think Essendon is the best team and most fair

As one of the other 16 clubs though, I'm not OK with Melbourne just being gifted 4 points without a game being played.

In this case, because it's Melbourne, as a North supporter we definitely don't want them getting free wins, as we need them to finish as low as possible for their first round draft pick.

Essendon were favourites to win this game.
what a pathetic post. In the midst of everything happening, nobody gives the slightest F what draft pick the kangaroos end up with
it was Ess 1.80 Mel 2.00 on saturday afternoon BTW so shut up

You are putting blame on a victim of a virus derived from a pandemic, of which we are the worst-hit by in this state.

McKenna's positive case is less of an indication of him as a person, and says more about the environment we are under.

Anyone is suseptible to this virus - anyone. Players from your team, our team (even after a McKenna's recovery) - your mother, my friend. It is absolutely disgraceful, foolish and disgusting for you to blame an asymptomatic player for suffering from a virus that can show no symptoms and has the longest incubation period (unlike any other illness, outside of pandemic).

This is an exceptional time, and in this time, we have afforded many reliefs to many disadvantaged people - whereas in any other times, things like jobkeeper, rent/mortgage deferrals, special shopping hours, would be seen as an unfair leg up to those hard-done by - but in this time, we have recognised the difference, and in realisation of that, we have changed our rules and our approach to normal day-to-day life.

With any other issue you would not see Best 22 100% healthy and able players sidelined - and that turns a competition into a farce. The only viable solution is to pause the comp (which is what the shortened quarters and season is for) and re-launch after the dust settles with hubs, which would heavily prevent more cases in the COVID capital of Australia.

We are on the verge of a farce competition that is about who can escape the contagiousness of others, rather than their effort by doing their job.

Even if we recover, this can a perpetual thing that can happen to other clubs in the future. You wouldn't be singing this tune if your team was affected and you know it, stop being a troll.
every word of this is wrong, if he has indeed breached the protocols and increased his risk. We already know he didn't clear the inspection with his compliance officer so the verdict is in already. The other 700 players have followed the rules and that's why they're not infected. Nobody is just getting it at the supermarket, you need to have close contact with someone for a period of time. he is probably lying anyway, and he hooked up with some bird or something

Speak for yourself. As long as the AFL has declared that there is a season happening and 153 games (17 rounds) will be played, this has impacts, including draft order. If you want to disregard that, then that's your own ignorant choice.

So thanks for confirming my statement that Essendon were favourites.
so shut up
Might want to take your own advice to avoid looking like a clown.

Because Victoria is a Covid invested swamp that can’t get their s**t together.
There is bound to be more players test positive in the coming months as there are shop assistants and all types of folk spreading the virus around. Even the NSW Premier is now saying for her people not to travel to Melbourne unless it’s urgent. All of the other states are looking at keeping borders to Victoria closed. Just pause the season for 2 weeks and move everyone interstate

this is the type of response from a bloke who has posted on bigfooty 32,000 times. Sad and pathetic with ridiculous bias. Thanks for Pickett
