Yeh
Ok PureFooty, take it easy mate... Patty Healey has provided a couple of constructive comments on our board, and just because this one is a little out of place is no reason to tell him to GAGF. If we can't accept someone's honestly provided opinion, the board will be a very boring place. Yes we'll go hard on trolls, but FFS go easy on the bloke. Especially given he's a North fan... We don't see much of use from them here, so his constructive efforts should be applauded!

Not trying to single you out of course, it's a general thing here.
Yeh, fair call, just assumed it was a troll.

Should start ahead of:

Definitely ahead of:

Nicholson
Jetta
Strauss

That means he's in.
Nicholson was flying last year. IMO he is definitely in our best 18, no doubts about it.

His disposal can let him down, but I love his run and carry

Yeah not your fault, we're just a bit precious with anything we perceive as negative from other clubs' posters IMO.

And we shouldn't be too precious either. We know the ones who come here to troll, the others turn up and provide good discussion. We aren't Demonland after all. :thumbsu:

OK here's mine and I struggled a bit remembering some of your players but used the Demons website to help me :p

This is if everyone was out on the park and no injuries to the list IMO...

FB: Tapscott Frawley Watts
HB: Blease McDonald Grimes
C: Toumpas Jones Byrnes
HF: Sylvia Dawes Howe
FF: Garland M.Clark Rodan
ON: Jamar Viney Trengrove
Int: Sellar Terlich McKenzie SUB: Nicholson

- Watts swingman, playing on 3rd tall helping other key defenders and forward occasionally when needed
- Midfielders to rotate in include Rodan, Grimes, Blease, Sylvia and Mckenzie
- Garland swapping with Watts when required
- Forward line starting to look pretty solid for first time in a while with some good targets and pace at ground level.

What are your thoughts guys?

Not bad. some quick thoughts.

I think Blease is better offensively and should be played from wing to forward pocket. He is a player that has the ability to kick a bag. I think Strauss, jetta and Nicholson are fighting for a place in the backline and ahead of Tappy. You left out Dunn and while I understand why many opposition fans don't rate him he was a revelation down back for us last year and his maturity and hardness add a lot. He should get a gig.

Garland up forward again? Doubt it. That spot should be for pedo and if he doesn't come up we will look for other options first. Perhaps sellar.

Davey has had a good preseason and should get a chance.

I doubt if we play a resting ruck man up forward we'd have another tall on the bench. It's been a tough couple of preseasons but our midfield is young and not fit/experienced enough. We need more run on the bench.

Terlich, taggert and m jones will be in the mix too.

Top marks for putting in the effort and having a crack.

I think once i got down to 9-10 the order i placed them in is really academic . Dunn and Tapscott purely for mongrel . Sylvia because we know what he is capable off when he is in the "mood" . I think from about 14 down the rest is interchangeable with the bulk of the list.
Can't rate the newbies really till we see them in real action tbh
Will be interesting to have another go at this towards the end of the season to see how our ratings stack up.

From what I've seen in the Nab

B: Dunn Frawley Garland

F: Byrnes Dawes Pederson/Sellar (leaning towards him after the port game, will stick with Pedo for now though)

SUB: Rodan

4. Jack Grimes
5. Jack Trengove
6. Tom Mcdonald

Your probably right re. Blease but he could generate some good run and play on the best small forwards to learn the game a little? Has the tools needs to work on skills.

Fair call I guess Dunn is rated internally but I just don't see it.

Nicholson is pretty good will probably be in best 18 soon if not already but I think he would be a great sub with his run and dash.

Tappy not rated internally? I love his hardness and how tight he is usually.

Garland and Watts can alternate I think between 3rd tall at both ends.

Davey needs to step up, if has had a good preseason he is in.

Sellar will probably drop out I just saw he dominated last week, probably go for another runner instead.

Pedo will struggle IMO to get games, has talent but goes missing. Rather Garland/Dawes/Clark/Watts?

Thats my thoughts, thanks for the reply.

i also apologise for intruding.
i just have a query or two

i look at most of the backlines selected and it contains basically if not 5 kpbs 5 talls. i wonder where the run will come from.
when i do this exercise i have to say im looking for as much experience and maturity as possible as well as try to develop the younger blokes and get games into them. im also looking for the best possible structure regardless.

if i may id go something like this

b/ nicholson 22yo/ 20 games. - frawley 24yo/101 games. - watts 22yo/55 games.
hb/ davey 29yo/158 - t mcdonald 20yo/17 - strauss 22/18
c/ viney 18yo/0 - n jones 25yo/135 - blease 22yo/21
hf/ howe 22yo/35 - dawes 24yo/71 - sylvia 27yo/ 138
f/ byrnes 29yo/108 - clark 25yo/93 - garland 24yo/80
r/ jamar 29yo/124 - grimes 23yo/53 - trengove 21yo/59
int/ rodan 29yo/176 - toumpas 19yo/0 - mckenzie 22yo/57 - sub terlich 23yo/o

havent included pederson because of several reasons , 1 hes not proven, 2 his form in the off season is nothing to write home about, 3 with garland forward one or both of clark and dawes could give jamar a chop out.
couldnt find a spot for dunn just too many talls.i may be doing him an injustice. theres just 4 juniors under 22. 10 development players 22 to 24yo. with the rest either mature or vets.

anyway apologies if im off the mark. imo its just a little bit of patience required and if injuries dont hit hard i think you will surprise many. i also dont think you are really behind clubs like my own and others. good luck on 2013

Thanks for the input santa claws. On the topic of our backline, yes it looks too tall on paper, but in reality it plays more like this:

B: Nicholson Frawley Garland
HB: Watts McDonald Dunn

Frawley + McDonald play on the key forwards
Garland can play on talls but more often (of late) takes a medium or even small forward (to mixed results).
Watts can also play on talls if needed (not very convincing though) but more often is used as a loose man for his skills reading the play and rebounding with precise foot skills. He's also quick and agile enough to play on smaller guys, even if his defending is not up to scratch at times.
Nicholson plays small, obviously, but having named him in the BP he's every chance to spend much more time on the wing, with that spot filled by one of Jetta, Strauss or Terlich.
Dunn is another who is versatile enough to play on most sorts, with a good combination of size, physicality/aggression and a long, penetrating kick. Seems to have found his spot there at last.

I expected to see a little more love for Kent in here. Interested to see how far outside best 22 he is for you guys. Any thoughts?

Very very close to getting in, but most of us already have two players who haven't played a single afl game in our best 22's and I would say that might be why we're holding off.

Yeah, Fair point. Three R1 debutants would be Richmond-esque.

Wouldn't be surprised if it happened if one of Blease, Tmac, or Trengove are unfit.

Just interested... Gawn is gone I take it? I know he got put on the LTI but what is his reference to the 22?

They want him to work his way back via VFL, slowly and steadily, I think, as they put him on the LTI for a 4-6 week injury.

They are obviously being very cautious considering the massive amount of time he has spent out of the game. They want to ensure when he comes back this time, he can play 15 weeks in a row and show what he has to offer.

Will be best 22 by season's end for mine, but that's not the consensus.

Neeld said unequivocally in his interview today that he doesn't want half the team debuting in Round 1. Could be staggered a la GCS, GWS.

He will be doing very well if he is best 22 by the end of the year. Not counting him out, and I'd love him to make it, but he hasn't played football for a long time and may need a season in the VFL to establish himself and get confidence back in his body. Plus Neeld has never seen the kid play and may end up not rating.

Like I said, would love the kid to make it, but he is coming from a long way back to be best 22 by the end of the season.

Yeah, I'll leave it till Monday because I've got cricket Saturday and Sunday - but I'd say it's fizzled out a bit.

Is it finals this weekend? Waiting for the Monday morning crack the shits on BF after you chop on for 1 to a pie chucker. ;)
