So I've just completed the contract for my first grad job and it's time to upgrade from my '89 pulsar which is struggling in the roadworthy department...

Looking at purchasing a Mazda 2, and was wondering what people's experiences have been like with the car? Is it worth forking out an extra couple of grand and buying it new? I was originally wanting to buy a second hand model, could probably get something for around 12.5k. Have people been able to bargain down much from the current asking price of 16.5k?

They are also offering $500 worth of free accessories and an extra year of warranty to North Members. *ponderingfacethingee*

You also get a years free Mazda Roadside as a member.

Interested in the feedback also, eventually want to buy a Mazda 2/3 myself.

I've got a royal blue Mazda 2, it's a great little bus, fairly nippy, handles well, smooth and easy to drive. Would thoroughly recommend it, even if they didn't sponsor North. The quality of the car speaks for itself.
However, since the DO sponsor North, you should be all over this car like flies on horse sh1t. The rear spoiler is worth the money, just rounds off the car a bit at the back, boot tray/floor is money well spent, too.

When are Mazda going to bring out something with even half an eye on the future? I'm talking at the very least hybrid, if not fully electric or hydrogen powered. Otherwise, I am a big fan of their work.

Yes it was, however the $500 accessories is made up of $250 from Mazda and $250 from the dealership.

The dealer squibbed out of their side of the $500 offering me only $250 in accessories since I had got them down to $15.5k already.

Ended getting them to give me free bluetooth (worth $700 or so) without fitment (will cost me $150 to do later, was toying with doing it myself but it's pretty complex, have to pull apart half the front of the car).

I was not impressed with my Mazda 3 unfortunately...sold after 2 years from new.

Plenty do like them though. The 2 is similar quality just smaller - as runabouts they are sensible choices.
