Many thanks.

The thread reminds me of a bunch of kids in a toy shop and wondering what presents they're going to get.

A word of warning - Many look great until you get them home and open the box.

PS - Having endured the Schwabby years I'm desperate to avoid another pair of knitted socks.

Thanks to all the guys who wrote the profiles, and a big thanks to CC for putting them all in one place. Great effort all round.

Cheers! :thumbsu:

Harley Ambrose will be picked up early by the Kangaroos, a brilliant player who will bypass the Sanydragans embarrassing team for 2008. He will be picked up on 24th in the draft

Sam Pegler is apparently being selected with Collingwood's Pick 47. Geelong, St. Kilda and Hawthorn have enquired about him, but he gave the Pies as his preference.

Source: A friend from work who's friends with him - goes to the same school.

Useful thread, any information on Collingwoods selections ?

Also which of these guys are left over to take in the rookie draft ?

John McCarthy (Utility) - 19 November 1989, 188.6cm 79.6kg. Dandenong Stingrays/Sorrento
Matt Burgan: 38 – ADELAIDE – JOHN McCARTHY
Dandenong Stingrays, VIC, Medium forward, November 19 1989, 188.6cm, 79.6kg
McCarthy has come right into the mix in recent weeks with four clubs – Adelaide, Geelong, St Kilda and Melbourne all strongly linked with him. Although McCarthy could feature in several different scenarios in the draft, he now looks a genuine prospect to be taken at this pick. Adelaide will strongly consider him, particularly with the recent loss of forward Scott Welsh. The Crows may also look at local products Jared Petrenko or Nick Salter with these choices or potentially with one of their later selections.
Bio: Very good one-on-one player who is strong overhead and a good kick. Has pace and a sound understanding of the game. From Sorrento FC.

Pick 48 – Bulldogs – John McCARTHY (19/11/89) 189/80
Played school footy this year but excelled when played in the TAC, despite playing injured. Hard and quick at an attractive height, could easily go earlier.

Weaver - 65. Richmond – John McCarthy
Despite only managing 9 games in 2 years with the Stingrays McCarthy showed some promise when his school commitments and injuries allowed. A midfielder / winger with good balance and tidy skills. Probably a rookie candidate because he just doesn’t have enough runs on the board. When he did grace the TAC Cup with his presence he’d get his 20 touches and most of them while on the move. Two years of OP will probably scare off the AFL clubs who will want to see him play a full season before touching him.

??? - 52. John McCarthy (Dandenong/VICTORIA) - Brisbane
Position: Utility
Height: 187cm Weight: 79kg

Stats: 7 matches, 7 goals 8 behinds (scoring accuracy 47%), Number of times in best = 4, aveerage possessions 21.9 with kicking efficiency of 71% and handball of 80%, total hanball receivals 41, average tackles 2.6 per match, frees for 11 against 10 and average of 5.3 marks per match with 14% contested.
Draft camp Results: Agility 8.51, 5m Sprint 1.05, 20m Sprint 2.97, Repeat Sprint 25.07 and Beep Test 13.08.

Actual write up AFL: No. 31 JOHN McCARTHY
(Dandenong Stingrays) 18yo, 189cm 80kg
Very good one-on-one player who is strong overhead and a good kick. Has pace and a sound understanding of the game. From Sorrento FC.
“He hasn’t played a lot of TAC footy . . . so he’s really underdeveloped in terms of the pathway. We see him going into the midfi eld and then also down back.” Derek Hine, recruiting manager.

Toby (Tobias) Thoolan (CHB, FB, Ruck) - 23 February 1990, 194.6cm 91.9kg. Vic Country/Bendigo/Swan HillFoj1: 29. Hawthorn- Toby Thoolan 195cm 92kg Bendigo
Bottom age tall who shows a lot. Has the ability to play any of the key posts and covers the ground extremely well. Will need a bit of time to continue to find an AFL body but may prove a very wise choice. At a pinch I would guess that he will be a very good CHB. Reminds me of Ben Reid.

??? - # 36 Carlton – Toby Thoolan (Bendigo / 195cm / 92kg)
Bottom age representative with Vic Country this year who will be seen more for his upside than results to date. Certainly shapes as a potential bolter much like Reid did last year. Tall, athletic and reasonable skills Thoolan could be shaped to play a variety of roles and would be an excellent get for the Blues.

??? - Pick 38 > Adelaide – Toby Thoolan – 195cm 92kgs – Bendigo Pioneers (Utility)
Bottom aged big man with incredible upside. Can play in Key Position spots all over the ground but is most suited to CHB. This selection releases Bock to play in the forward line.

??? - Pick 44 – Geelong – Toby THOOLAN (23/02/90) 195/92
Bottom-age tall who clubs might be willing to take a punt on given the weak depth in the key position players this year.

??? - Toby Thoolan - 195cm, 92kg-Bendigo Pioneers. Tallish bottom age kid who has played mainly Ruck and FP this year. Has a pretty good leap in the ruck and can win taps. He is pretty mobile and his pace is ok for a tall. His kicking is pretty good and he can kick it a long way. When he has been resting up forward he has managed a goal or two in most games but I think he could possibly work on presenting at the contest more as he doesn't take a lot of contested marks.
Pick 40 plus.

The Teflon Dean: Toby Thoolan (23/2/90, 195 cm, 92 kg) Big, bottom aged boy that can play CHB. Very good work ethic with clean hands and excellent below his knees.

Anti Gold Coast: I think Thoolan's performances and the fact he is bottom age with the scope for growth and body development will mean a club will be willing to take a chance rather late in the draft. Other then that, I can see most of the others in the Rookies, except maybe Tim Bongetti, who I think is a pretty good player, and might just get drafted.

Stats: 13 matches, 15 goals 4 behinds (scoring accuracy 79%), Number of times in best = 8, aveerage possessions 11.8 with kicking efficiency of 73% and handball of 78%, total hanball receivals 39, average tackles 2.1 per match, frees for 9 against 4 and average of 2.8 marks per match with 17% contested.
State camp Results: Agility 9.06, 5m Sprint 1.13, 20m Sprint 3.14, Repeat Sprint ??.?? and Beep Test 13.02.

Actual write up AFL: No. 47 TOBIAS THOOLEN
(Bendigo Pioneers) 17yo, 195cm 92kg
Ruckman who placed second in the Bendigo Pioneers 2007 B&F as well as representing Vic Country at U18 level. Athleticism has allowed him to move forward with good effect during the 2007 season.
“Tobi’s a bottom-age ruckman. What we’ve tried to do with our bigger fellas . . . is get some fl exibility into where they can play so they’re not just stuck in one particular area.”
