Re: Walker Now!!!

i've noticed some of you guys are having a real crack at craigy. While I admit that he is making a huge mistake by not even considering Walker, your forgetting he has done quite a bit by this club. Look at 05 and 06, showdown tally and some of our draft picks and etc.

So yea it's frustrating he isn't playing Walker but lay off him a bit.

Re: Walker Now!!!

Yep the usual thing in the press conference

- Things he needs to work on
- Its not just about the goals, it is how they come about
- If we expose an 18 yo to AFL too early it could set him back in his development.

Clearly the way for Walker to earn selection is to stink it up for a while.

It's not as if he is a stick. Walker has dominated against all men. It's not as if he's 70kg, he's a pretty solid unit. They won't be able to snap him in half. But I guess NC is right, it would set back his development as even if he gets picked he'll spend 90% of the game on the pine:rolleyes:.

He's more solid than that stick figure Westhoff and he is playing AFL...

Re: Walker Now!!!

Begin to fear when the cliches come, the evil spirit of Gary Ayers is upon us.

We are all doomed, Neil Craig is tainted by the stench of Gary Ayers cliches, the wretched presence of excuses and cop outs has befallen the Adelaide Crows, then the time may be near when we must roll with the punches.

Yep ......you have more knowledge than Craig

How about supporting a coach that IMO and many others has done a fine job and is developing a great team of the future.

I'll repeat it's not about now it's about the the future

Re: Walker Now!!!

As other have said, Neil Craig all but ruled out Walker for next week during his press conference and reading between the lines it sounded like it will not happen anytime this year. So what I would like to know is; what is the difference between round 22 in August this year and round 1 in March 2009?

If he is not ready to play now or anytime over the next 6 to 8 weeks how will this change over the summer? He will only add 3 to 5 kgs to his frame so physically he will not change that much and his skill development won’t improve that much because he is not playing any games, so by the sounds of it, I doubt we may not even see him until sometime in 2010.

I am not joking or looking for a reaction from anyone but if he’s not ready now, how will it change in 6 months time.

He'll be 6 months older, more experienced and more confident .....Craigy knows his players

3 things, he is our only forward kicking goals so I wouldnt be too choosy.
2ndly, he doesnt like a forward marking on a lead and then taking a set shot and kicking truly? Or he doesnt like a key forward and crumbing goals?
3rdly how does he justify Jerichos selection? 4 disposals and no goals. But he did rush a behind for us because he couldnt sheppard Chaplin.

How about you use your brain?

You must be a riot to hang around with, learn to read a non-serious post champ. If you can manage that.

Putting words in my mouth too it seems......Now I think......I will post like this.......then I will truly........get along......with the dead set spuds that inhabit bigfooty.....

Re: Walker Now!!!

Why because you and others are a better coach than he ......that you know the players capabilities and state of mind better than he?

FFS Walker has just turned 18 and is gaining enormous experience and confidence in his first year ........

It's not about this year!

Craig knows him better than you!

I'll trust the clubs judgement
Did I state I thought I was a better coach?

As a supporter and a football fan I am getting bored with the Crows at the moment. We are playing boring, slow and uninspiring football. We have a player who is regularly kicking bags of goals when we, as a team cannot kick a winning score, and yet he is still not given a game.

Sometimes a club needs to take risks, make an inspired selection, imagine the crowd reaction to when a Dangerfield, Walker or Petrenko steps onto thw field for the first time?

Ruling him out just because of his age reeks of Graham Arnold and the Burns, Djite Olyroos ommision.

Counting down the days, can't wait for it but who knows when it'd be.

He might be, but what brings confidence is performance and at the moment he is performing, so I don't think there would be a better time than now to experiment with him. 4 or 5 games for him to get a feel for it and I reckon he'll know exactly what to work on over pre-season and be better for it next year. As will the team.

Please tell us you were being a tad factious with that comment? 6 months is a blink of an eye stuff – if he’s not ready now, he will not be ready then.

His confidence would be sky high right now, if he is not selected this season I wouldn’t be surprised to see him go backwards next year and he may lose a lot of this confidence he has accumulated now.

Waiting 6 months is bull shit and will not automatically make him ready.

Even if they play him in the 3 or 4 Mickey Mouse games in February, surly he would get far more benefit our of playing 3 or 4 proper games now.
I am just so frustrated that we keep recycling the tried and tested method that has failed us. It’s time for something new.

:thumbsu:

Yep - agree with it all.

Re: Walker Now!!!

The problem with bringing any player into the Crows forward line (even a pinch-hitter from defence) is that by the sounds of it the playbook requires a PhD to understand 'the structure' and 'the system'.

Even a midfielder Brent Reilly on the radio the other week stated he didn't really know about the forwards set-up, it's just their job to get it in there. Great teamwork.

Now Craig says it's not about kicking goals but how we kick them:confused: Yes we need a degree of structure and system BUT keep it understandable and workable. The players must be thinking so hard about connecting the dots of their playbook that they cannot do anything instinctive. Let the structure be simple enough to support footballers (not brain surgeons) play football.

I liked the way we tried to get it in a little quicker today but almost every ball was a bomb. Where was the instinctive lead?

Personnel wise:

I have stuck up for Jericho this year but his attack on the contest was deplorable today in a pressure game. Such a waste of talent. Get him in the shrinks office and if they cannot get any aggression into him...goodbye. Yes he laid some good tackles which was pleasing but his one-on-one stuff today was disappointing. We must see a true contest from him and he can display that at Norwood. The level of footy doesn't matter...it's the contest.

Gill should come in for Jericho.

Re: Walker Now!!!

whatever happened to neil craigs statement, "we dont want to put any limitations on new draftees"

clearly walker is our best performed forward and is being 'limited' and restricted in the sanfl, when mcgregor and co are getting a look in

Absolutely spot on:thumbsu::thumbsu::thumbsu:

Sport is so much about confidence and momentum and these are commodities which ebb and flow.

Our strange policy of ignoring ACTUAL FOOTBALL PERFORMANCE is as revolutionary as it is bloody pig-headed and stupid.

His body is ready. He has innate confidence. He has ability. There is a gaping hole in the side for him.

Both Walker and Gill should come in.

Re: Walker Now!!!

I wanna say that I reckon Walker should get a game aswell, but I wonder if the setbacks that Jacky and Sellar had from their debuts has made the match committee a bit hesitant to bring in Walker? Jacky looked nowhere near it and has struggled since, and Sellar is pretty bad.

Just a thought.

Conversely Tippett is down on confidence - has been for a while & needs a break.

Gill & Walker in makes sense to me across HF.

Keep Goody at FF as he is crap on ball.

Apples and oranges in terms of SANFL performance

And tahts why you want changes ....any changes just to see a different mix and fix YOUR BOREDOM.

Now thats not a particualrly good reason .....and I'll say again the decision to give Walker a full SANFL season is if in the opinion of the Crows warranted then I'll support that.

Over reacting in a development year to fans should not and will not affect Craigs long term development plans ....... from what I've seen all our youngsters are developing nicely and probably better than at any other time in the clubs history ...... find something else to cure your boredom ;)
