The 17 or so off contract include rookies which would confuse a few people. They are:

Liddy
Moss
Stanlake
Daye
Lock
Patrick
Harris
Coad
Iles
D.Stanley
Keath
Ablett

J.Stanley
Magin
Ah Chee
Tippett
Crawford

Who should stay, who should go? What are people's thoughts on Liddy/Moss? Stanley/Iles need to be given 3 year contracts, most obvious 2 from the list that need renewal. Some good qld players coming through in the NEAFL/u18's so will be tough to keep alot of the rookies on also. Joel and Alik retained only perhaps?

Certs are Harris, Keath

Stanley and Iles are the no-brainer contract renewals.

Moss is 2012 so he isn't going anywhere.

Tippett, NAblett, possibly Daye, Lock and Patrick still have the last 2 rounds to prove themselves.

I think Daye , Stanlake , Lock will be given there marching arders , Ablett and Patrick would be very nervous.

Liddy has had a good year in the ressies , Moss is highly rated kid.

Coad is a interesting one , had a terrible year with injury , maybe given another year.

As good as Coad was at the beginning of the year, I'm not so sure he is required anymore after our first season unfortunately. With the likes of Bock, Rory T, Hutchins as a couple KP defenders + Brennan our Utility

If K Tippett somehow finds his way on our list, I would be dropping Coad, and developing perhaps Sam Day as a Utility, or one of our other big mobile men perhaps? I see Sam Day as athletic as Nic Natanui, he just needs game time and could be an Adam Goodes type utility?

Crows could well trade tippett as they would get more value now than next year when he's off contract. Id try trade tape/jolly for kurt. Both good kids we will lose but probably not long term best 22 and they get more opportunity in their home town of adelaide.

Gold Coast news just reported that both Matera and Day are in the process of extending their contracts here. But then again, they called Jacob Gilbee "sam" so who knows if they're trustworthy.

Ah good to hear. Should stop West Coast supporters banging on about Matera wanting to go home to Perth.

It's great news! Especially those 2 being apart of all the homesick rumours. To accompany Prestia and Gorringe earlier in the year makes it even better!

If we can get the likes of Bennell, Toy, Jolly, McKenzie and Lynch to resign also it would be a pretty good effort to put an end to most of the rumours floating around.

:) Cant be , West Coast fans said he would be straight back when his contract finishes.

Apparently Stanley re-signed, and is extending his contract.

Rumour is that he had to take a big hit to his pay, though. As a few others have done, too.

I wonder if this is because we're either making way for a big experienced body, or we're extending young stars early that are now demanding more cash. McKenzie, Bennell, etc.

Great that he wants to stick around though, even on a pay-cut. Hope we can pay him what he deserves. Could be part of his contract that he is paid more later on? Love to see him in the red and gold. :thumbsu:

Surely we aren't struggling for cash already , I find this hard to believe as if true we have no chance of re-signing the next group of young guns to come out of contract. And if we are cutting pays to fit in Tippett that should be enough to tell you that it is a mistake to sign him.

Yeah im with you. I would have thought though that a lot of our senior signings would have had front loaded contracts to avoid this. Mind you we are in our 2nd year and could be just further forward planning?

What would you offer Stanley? What was he currently on?

3 year deal at 300k per year. Or thereabouts for me.

Sometimes I wish the AFL administration was a bit more like the NFL. Isn't their salary cap and contract player information all public?

Mind you half of BigFooty's threads would dissapear.

Like I said, this pay-cut could be solely to retain some of the younger players, and may have been outlined in his initial contract for all we know. Perhaps he got more than usual in his first year, and thus less in this year.

Or it could be completely bogus.

What we do know is that Stanley re-signed, so that's good. The list management thus far has been very good, so I have faith in them to do what's right for the club.

Seems very unlikely to me that they'd be running out of cash already, and lack so much foresight that they cannot see 12 months ahead.

I agree that list management has been good to this point, I am a little concerned that we (the club) are starting to lose our way. The focus has always been stated on the fast track development of the kids. Resent talk about Tippett and giving up the No4 pick for big bodies seems to be in direct opposition to this mantra. I can only see 2 possabilitys for this change of focus
  1. Bluey is getting pressure from either, sponsors the club, the playing group or the AFL to be more competitive NOW
  2. We are going to see a number of our high draft picks leave the club and he is trying to get the best compo we can. And the club sees that as more mature recruits that are less likely to feel homesick.
I think its more likely to be point 1 than 2 and out of them I think it may be the players that are wanting more help, if so then I can understand the focus turn around but I am still of the opinion that a Barry Hall type 1-2 year player is a better fit than Tippett or another player that will stunt the development of our young group.

Sadly this is incorrect. My kid knows someone around the club and he has not signed. Club screwing him over.

Not saying your kid is a liar, but little rumours can turn into a game of Chinese Whispers at times. Those misconceptions can lead to forums like this, and I can only hope that is one of them. Would hate to think that our club is screwing over someone who has rewarded the club on the field, after they put faith in his ability in the first place a year or so ago.

Are you sure, Running? SUNS posted on Stanley's thread that he just re-signed and seemed quite confident about it.

Seems unlikely that the club would screw him over, that's for sure. We all know how good he's been for us, club included.

News of him re-signing should come very soon if he is. Pre-season starts in a month or so, right?

It is fair dinkum mate. I hope they look after him and things change but atm that is how it stands. The Chinese Whispers and misconceptions come from the person who said he has signed....They need to check their facts first. Contact the club and ask if he has re-signed bet I am right....
