Hasnt been mentioned yet I dont think but alik magin has been promoted to senior list. Leaves our rookie list empty. With the wage increase of rookies and many talented senior listed players, how many will the suns look to take on? Would be super hard to get a gain/senior list promotion also. Perhaps 4? Maximum is 8 atm, is there a minimum?

Who should we look at? I wouldnt mind picking up a steve wrigley type from Labrador or 1 of the young nt thunder boys.

Senior list. To play afl you cant be on a rookie list, must be promoted.

Liddy gone.

The Gold Coast SUNS have today released Rex Liddy from his playing contract after the 19-year-old indicated a desire to cease his AFL career.

Liddy and the GC SUNS had been working closely in a bid to revive the North Queenslanders hunger to train and play at the elite level and the club has supported the talented teenagers decision not to pursue a career in the AFL.

With the GC SUNS required to submit their AFL list lodgement today, Liddy, his manager and the Club came to the decision that a contract release was appropriate.

Gold Coast SUNS, General Manager – Football Operations, Marcus Ashcroft said the club understood Liddy’s position and are committed to working with Rex and assisting him going forward.

“We completely understand Rex’s position, and have been working with him and his manager for some time assisting where we could off the field and trying to reignite his passion for AFL.

“Although disappointed to lose him, we will assist him in his transition back into life away from the Gold Coast SUNS and wish him every success in the future.”

Liddy was a Queensland Zone Selection, joining the club in 2010, he made his AFL debut against North Melbourne in Round 12 at Metricon Stadium and played 4 senior matches with the Gold Coast SUNS in 2011.

Wish him all the best! Had some flashes of good things, but seemed to just not get himself right for AFL level. Good luck to him.

Doubt he would have gotten an extension after this coming season anyway. Best of luck to him. I'll always remember him for that one moment up in Cairns where he misjudged the ball and got heavily criticized by the commentators for it.

He looked a bit overweight for an AFL player. I was never convinced he was going to make it to be honest.

I hope he has good luck in whatever he does in the future.

Ch9 local news said he returned from his break overweight and had no desire or motivation to do the hard yards to shed the kilos. The best thing this provides however is that we now have a senior spot on the list that Hall, McQualter or Coad can instantly fill. Even more incentive for these 3 guys to bust their guts over the next couple weeks.

If anyone makes the senior list, you'd think it would be the former Saint.

Glad that Liddy just came up straight with it though, rather than stringing us along.

Yeah he looked a little bit overweight when he played last year and obviously struggled to run out games. A bit of a shame really because I thought Rexy had toughed it out for a few years to get a spot on the list in the first place and he had the tools to be a player, but obviously not the hunger. I also wish him the best in whatever he does and if he does head back up north he can continue to encourage youngsters up there to play the game. I reckon there's an untapped goldmine of talent in North Qld, we just need to harness it.

On the positive side this does give a kid with the hunger a chance, and that Aaron Hall looks a likely type that would help fill a need for us.

There's a highlight reel of him in the other two draft threads, Scout. He's a boy from Tasmania that looks really impressive. Has some serious skills and is also a bit older.

CB on the other thread seems to have the inside info that we're taking Hall in the PSD. For Hall, check the TSL sub-forums. There's some nice info about him in there.

Hall to be senior listed, hopefully we get mcqualter in rookie draft. Bound to be an injury from our large list to enable him temporary promotion. Can see him playing 10 or so games.

I've heard you guys are letting McQualter train with your squad, and while I know training during the off-season doesn't equal a spot, I can advise you that he is soft as butter and would add nothing to a squad of youngsters like yours. I would think you'd want hard bodies to guide the kids, more than someone like McQualter

So Nathan Krakouers gone! ...but takes up a senior list spot until end of 2012 which sucks... Guess that means he will be traded to Eagles or Freo at seasons end if they want him? ...and we get some form of compo?

I don't think we'd get any sort of compo?

Odds are he'll just be delisted at the end of 2012 since he wants to step away from AFL completely. Can't see any sort of trade going down.

If he doesnt want to play AFL in 2013 then no compo for us... But a lot can change in 12-months and if he is still senior listed as a Sun and decides he wants to re-ignite his AFL career in 2013 with the Eagles/Freo then we should be allocated some sort of compo with the switch surely?
