Don't quote me GTB but I think we have 42 on our senior list next year (down to 38 in 2014) which means we need to delist 4 plus minimum of 3 draft picks. Given this is being called a "superdraft" and we still have our Queensland concessions (I think?), we may end up de-listing more. Puts the pressure on which is a good thing I suppose.

Found this information which I thought may help.

2011 – 48 senior list, nine rookies with $1m TPP extra allowance;

2012 – 46 senior list, nine rookies with $800k TPP extra allowance;

2013 – 42 senior list, nine rookies with $600k TPP extra allowance;

2014 – 40 senior list, nine rookies with $400k TPP extra allowance;

2015– 38 senior list, nine rookies in line with other AFL clubs

Midfielder Josh Caddy says he wants to play out his career at Gold Coast SUNS, despite requesting a trade to Essendon in October.

Caddy was at the centre of a Trade Week storm when he told the GC SUNS he wanted to return to his hometown of Melbourne to be closer to his ill father.

Now three months into his second pre-season, the former No.7 draft pick said he had moved on and was busting for the season to start.

"I'm thinking as if I'm going to be here forever," Caddy said.

"If I think of wanting to go home all the time it'll affect my footy so I'm going in with a mindset of this is where I'm at and hopefully be here forever."

"It's been fine. No-one has held any grudges and I've fitted in perfectly. It's all good, It hasn't even been talked about really. I'm happy to be here and it's going really good."

"Ever since that last game last year I haven't been able to wait until round one this year," he said.

"If all things go to plan hopefully I'm there and I can't wait to start playing footy.

"I just want to do everything I can to keep my body injury free and I'd love to play every game and that's my goal."

Caddy worked on the exercise bike while his teammates went through a long match practice session at Friday's open training at Metricon Stadium.

He expects to be back in full training in the next fortnight and said he would be available for the GC SUNS first NAB Cup fixture against Melbourne and the Brisbane Lions on February 25.

I'm not sure - The wording is very strange.

"I'm thinking as if I'm going to be here forever" isn't the same as "I want to be here forever"

That might just be his "mindset" for this year as psychologically its what he needs to get through this year. At the end of the season he may get a completely different "mindset" for 2013 ...

I read it like that too. However, perhaps his tone suggested differently, which is why Mike seemed adament that he genuinely wants to be there forever. Hard to tell until we get the video.

Regardless, it's good that the club has accomodated for him. He seems much happier these days, and with a whole season in him where he's actually playing every game, could definitely change his view around.

Not attmepting to highjack your board guys but that is one of the least convincing articles I have ever read. Will be interesting to see what eventuates at season's end.

yeah, it doesn't seem as set in stone as other similar articles i've seen in the past, but at least it's something. he could have worded it differently i guess, but i haven't seen the actual interview yet so i'll wait for that to base any more judgement on it.

Just saw the interview then.

It holds much more weight that he'll stay with the Suns after hearing him. He says that he'll go into the season with the mindset of that(Gold Coast) is where he's at. Then seperately he says that he'll hopefully be at the Suns forever. As a different sentence. Not that it's a mindset, as it were.

Anyway, I've had enough disecting that! certainly sounds very happy being at the Coast at the moment. We can only know at the end of the year I guess.

It wasn't very convincing that's for sure. I'm over being concerned about him leaving. If he wants to stay good. If he doesn't I'm sure there's many talented young players who would jump at the chance to join our club. Would rather a Simon Black than a Nathan Buckley. If Josh can mature enough to get over his homesickness like the majority of our players have, that will be fantastic for us and for him as a person. If he goes I'm certain there will be a club that will be willing to part with something decent better than pick 19.

If Caddy has a season like 2011, the Suns will not get an offer of a first round pick and a first choice CHB in a top 8 team, which is effectively what was offered by Essendon.

Hooker when injury free is our first choice CHB, I'd much rather him to Warnock.

It's a good point you make. If Caddy is struck down with injury for another season, what will the Suns do if he opts to leave? His market worth will have gone way down. There may be other Melbourne clubs who show an interest that may offer more than what Essendon can, since the other Melbourne clubs are aware of his desires now. If the Suns cannot get anything worthwhile, they may just let him go in the draft. Set a message, as it were.

However, that would be incredibly unlucky if Caddy is struck down for ANOTHER season, and you would even start questioning if he's fit enough for the rigours of AFL. If it's a similar injury, anyway.

Odds are that he'll play every game, I think! Or at least 20 games, and average 24 touches. Then if he decides to leave, after proving his talent that the Suns know he has, we can hopefully get something good.

Out goes Caddy, and in comes O'Meara.

I wont be suprised to see him resign after 6-8 weeks of consistent AFL selection. I would also wager GC have already put an offer for 2-3 year deal to Caddy's management. But untill he gets a feel, taste, excitement of regular selection couple with the hard yards he has put in with the squad the last 18 months through training, the Melbourne thoughts will dissapear.

I suspect you right regarding the Suns already making him an offer, however, I have it on good authority that the Dons offer also remains.

I take your point mate, but you have to remember that Caddy has to agree to be traded to the club, my mail suggests Essendon remains his club not just because of his Dad but because he is genuinely impressed with the club. He wants to go there and only there.

However, I accept this may all be futile because he may feel more at home once he starts playing regular senior footy.

Hep, I respect that your opinion differs to mine and we all have sources, mine seem to think he is staying and the article seems to back that up, only time will tell if either of us are correct, but it's statements like yours above that are inflammatory and have no basis in fact that get my blood pumping.

Neither you nor I have any idea what is going on in Josh's head.
