Smart. Great signs that he'll make it back and be a gun from the weekend. Good to lock him down for an extra year before he takes full flight.

“He needs to have an operation to take out the plate and screws from his 2014 injury,” Wright said.

“We wanted to take away any anxiety that he may have had, and show him that we think he’ll be a really important player for us long-term.”

Hopefully this goodwill is remembered when the Crows no doubt come knocking once he becomes a star.

No connection - how is the young guy going? He will be a star in a few years.
Played a couple reasonably promising games for Box Hill and is now out for 12 weeks as he's just had the metal plate and screws in his leg removed as it was causing him swelling that prevented him from doing as much as he could without it. Might be early but I think we've got away with another one here.

If any of those blokes are forced out I wont happy.

I would be very, very surprised if Burgoyne plays on. If not him then Hodge. We can't have a situation that those 3 retire at once. Either he or they will retire or I think the club will force their hand. Similar to Lake and what Geelong did last year.

The consequences of all 4 playing on could be us plummeting to the bottom faster then Chelsea last EPL season in a year or 2.

They are all still in our top 8 players at the club, if they want to retire let them go by all means but they shouldn't be forced out.

So if come end of 2017 all 4 announce they are going to retire. What prediction would you have for our 2018 season? We would bottom out and bottom out hard.

If we manage it like Geelong did and like we did last season with Hale and Lake we can avoid this. This is a business after all.

Bottom out and get some early draft picks that we need actually wouldn't be the end of the world as we are lacking young talent at the moment. Geelong lucked out due to Dangerfield being from Moggs Creek, do you see us picking up a top 5 player in the competition ?

Why? He's first year on the rookie list. Wouldn't be doing it until end of next year at the earliest.
Didn't the Club upgrade Willsmore and Webster after their first year on the rookie list?

Got something to do with interest from other clubs and rookies being able to get out of deals

Was that their first or second years? Perhaps they did so for those guys as there were spots on the senior list that were easier to fill at that point? I'd let Stewart learn his trade at BHH for another year and prove he has consistency and then upgrade, assuming we'd be struggling a little with senior spots this time around. Admin wise, it means we have one more spot on the senior list for 2017 and we still have Stewart. No need to rush promotions for every rookie that shows a glimpse.

It was their first years.

Agree that you shouldn't rush to upgrade rookies generally.....but when those rookies have interest from elsewhere, then your hand is forced. Same situation for Ceglar too i believe.
