understanding managing him, just curious why he only got a 1 year extension and not more.
I think Gunners had a lot to do with that. he is brilliant and he had a great season but he is getting on. A sad fact I know all too well. the knowledge and skill is there but physically he must be careful. I rather like the idea of him in a coachingposition

As first round picks, both Cameron Nairn and Aidan Schubert get 3 year default contracts to 2028.
this is limited to the top 20 picks I believe, so Nairn gets 3 years, Schubert gets 2

Quite right and will be corrected - CBA states "Pick 1 to 20 at the National Draft Selection Meeting – three (3) year minimum term; or Pick 21 or later at the National Draft Selection Meeting – two (2) year minimum term"

Ned Reeves has belatedly signed on that 3 year extension to 2029 to his existing single year deal.

Also will add the default draftees deal two year deal for National Draft picks Dalton and LeRay and single for Greeves on the rookie list to the stickied post at top of page.

Weddle's long awaited four year extension to 2030
Josh had a 7 year, 10 million dollar offer from Essendon. The news is that he has taken a 4 year offer at $900k from Hawthorn. Over the 4 years that seems a $2.4 million dollar sacrifice. But his 4 year contract gets Josh to free agency at a time he may be one of the best players in the comp... and so worth much more than the Essendon contract. Even better, Josh may also be a premiership player with the Hawks and so further increase his value.

Forget the money for a second and any player would say that playing with the Hawks right now is better than playing with Essendon.
I think this was an easy decision for Weds.

Flynn Perez has been signed up. No word on contract length but you would assume just this season given the nature of his pickup. Stanley and Riding have been informed they will not get a contract via SSP, with the Hawks keeping a pick open for the mid season draft

Not especially helpful, but the Collective Bargaining Agreement stipulates that if a player is signed in the supplemental selection period, the club and the player enter into an AFL Standard Playing Contract commencing on the date of signing of that contract and expiring no earlier than 31 October in that year. Basically, the contract runs for the season at minimum, but could go for longer.

I imagine that since there has been nothing announced by the club for the length of the contract, Perez is signed only for this season.
