Hey guys apologies for the intrusion. Reason for me posting is I got some guy (tigers fan) telling me that Hodge is on almost 700k a year.
I told him no way Hodge is on that much because Hawks have a tiered pay system where all the guns get around the same.

Can anyone confirm or deny that figure? Thanks.

Can one of the mods (Echols) please update the original thread. I am currently overseas and only have web access on my phone for the next couple of weeks.

I will however be wearing my Hawks jumper and waving my Aussie flag at the Japanese Formula1 race this weekend......hoping for a Dan Ricciardo victory

Done.

I dont know i would not be surprised if it was 600k

You do wonder if any player approaching free agency but who still isnt a regular senior player, or someone has been traded into the list in front of them

At the end of 2015 Brendan whitecross will be one, but youd imagine if fit he becomes more of a regular

At the end of 2016 Lowden and Shoey become eligible

At the end of 2017 Grimley and to a certain extent Suckling and Duryea

At the end of 2018 Hallahan and Litherland

Or course by then these guys could have been regulars, but you wonder idf clubs see a like for like swap, and the playes themselves are amenable for, then the free agency clock gets re set

For example a swap for Shoey pick 16 2007 for Jack Watts pick 1 2007 or jordan roughead pick 31 2007
A swap for Luke Lowden could be Zac clarke. - i know hes played a lot more

I think he is on 550K max. No Way is he on 700K a year.

I think he is on 450K or 500K a year.

I wish he was on 700K at the moment as that would mean we're going to have a metric shit tonne of salary cap room in the next few years. Especially as that would mean Mitchell and Burgoyne are on similar.

Massive unders there. He would be on 750-800.

Btw, Frawley came to us wanting 750 mid last year and we said no way. He came back with a revised offer and is on 550.
Sounds there like you're stating 'fact', whereas in your opening sentence you speculate as to what Hodge 'would' be on.

I'm not doubting you as I don't think Frawley would have gone FA without $550k; but, I'd like to know what makes you suggest this.

Is there a cap on what we can pay an A/Coach? My point being, what if we asked Hodge/Mitch/Burgoyne to play for $450k now, but on retirement employed Hodge as a Leadership Consultant @ $300k; Mitch as a Skills Coach @ $300k; &, Burgoyne as a Development/Mentor @ $250-$300k etc - all for min. 3 years, whilst mentoring them under Yoda, known to Earthlings as 'Clarko'. Nobody could argue that Hodge's Leadership, Mitch's Skills or Burgoyne's Development abilities are less than $200-$300k respectively so the payments are (kinda) legit, at least on paper, whilst affording us Cap space to retain our current guns & secure FA targets in the future.

Yep, I'm speculating on what Hodge is on based on what I know of the Hawks payment structures and a range of other factors including the Frawley info above (which is not speculation).

While I'm sure there are "wink wink nudge nudge" type of deals like that at every club I'm fairly certain it would technically be against salary cap rules for those type of deals to be put into player contracts. Players could have those understandings with a club but would need to put their trust in the club that they would be looked after when the time came and abide by the arrangement. Seems like the kind of thing Carlton or Essendon would set up but then screw the player over after they retire.

With the exception of Guerra or Bruce, we haven't really had many ex-Hawk players become coaches at the club beyond their playing days.

Hodge/Mitch will be interesting viewing.

Bailey is the ruck coach at the Tigers isn't he?

I think I saw Ossie as an assistant or runner at Carlton last year?
