Hmm distinct lack of Luke. Probably going to drive up his price and sign mid 2016.

Well that's the first of 22 Senior Listed players we have made a decision on, expect more to flow in the coming weeks
Jesus... I didn't think that could be correct but I just went and counted them. Going to be an interesting year! (Though a couple of those 22 might be senior listed but are certainly not footballers, see T Derickx)

Here are the 21 remaining uncontracted Senior Listed players:

Aliir Aliir - Edge of Senior List
Harry Cunningham - Re-sign
Abe Davis - Edge of Senior List
Tom Derickx - Burn with Fire
Isaac Heaney - MUST Re-sign
George Hewett - Edge of Senior List
Jack Hiscox - Edge of Senior List
Kieren Jack - Re-sign
Alex Johnson - Retire
Jeremy Laidler - Re-sign
Jake Lloyd - Re-sign
Tom Mitchell - Re-sign
Ben McGlynn - Retire
Toby Nankervis - Re-sign
Luke Parker - MUST Re-sign
Ted Richards - Retire
Xavier Richards - Edge of Senior List
Daniel Robinson - Edge of Senior List
Nick Smith - Re-sign
Kurt Tippett - MUST Re-sign
Dean Towers - Edge of Senior List

So 11 of the above are either Edge of the Senior List, Retire or Burn with Fire. Those down as edge of senior list either will be delisted or re-sign (duh). The other 10 are all re-sign with only 3 MUST Re-sign (as in stay away from sharp objects if they don't kind of way). Not passing judgement on the Rookie Listed players.

The current Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) between the AFL and the players expires 31 October 2016.
The new media deals commence in 2017 ( and run through to 2022).

Yet there doesn't appear, at least publicly, any great urgency to negotiate a new CBA.

If I were the player manager for either a current well paid player or a player likely to get a significant increase I'm not sure I'd be rushing to sign a new contract until, at the very least, the likely parameters of the new CBA were established.

Clearly there is going to be a significant increase in total player payments, but the ongoing battle of the players seeking a fixed % of overall revenue, the clubs seeking to boost their own coffers and the AFL looking to retain as much as possible under their control is, based on previous experience, likely to be exacting and prolonged.

We gave Hannebery a 5 year extension, Buddy obviously a very long term deal and its a path Andrew Ireland obviously feels comfortable with and the club has endorsed.

However of the players coming out of contract at the end of 2016 those sort of deals may not necessarily always in the best interest of club (eg KJ/Tippett) or potentially player (eg Heeney/Parker).

Obviously preferable to have players signed as soon as possible, but at present we have, to a degree, an uninformed market, which may well impact upon how soon we get all the signatures on the dotted line.

Interesting...is this your opinion or have you heard something? There's been zero publicity since the infection.

Harley was on SEN this morn, solid interview. I'm sure i wasn't the only one to SMS in prior, but i asked about Luke's status on the back of Roses signing. They asked and he said it was progressing well and they were happy with how it was going and hopeful it would be sorted soon.

Did it sound genuine or was it just the standard answer you'd expect from him?

Full article below, but the Parker quotes from Harley:
"We're really close," Harley told radio station SEN.
"He's exactly the type of player you want at your club. On the field he's ruthless and competitive and off the field he really drives the troops.
"We've had fantastic leaders in (Jarrad) McVeigh, Kieren Jack and Josh Kennedy and Luke's the next one to bridge that gap before we get to the really young ones in Callum Mills and Isaac Heeney.
"He's the youngest player ever to be voted into the Swans' leadership group and he's an integral part of our future, both on and off the field.
"We're very confident Luke will be with us for a long time."
