From the mouth of 1 TommyGunMitchell:

"I'd love to stay a Swan"

"I love the club and am very happy here, so I'm sure those things will work itself out. I will leave that to my manager to worry about."

"I love the club and have built some great relationships with all the players and coaches"

"And I just love being part of a group that is really driven, heading towards achieving the same goal."

"I'm very happy in Sydney and really looking forward to what should be a solid year for the team."

Just like JPK will forever be a former Hawk no matter the games played for each club. Just like "the former don" Teddy (again ignoring the length of service)... Sydney are such good "recruiters" (i.e. media term for poaching talent and buying premierships rather than building a culture and structure that attracts talent).

Tommys son won't be a son of a blue, and really that's all I care about these days.

All well and good, but I want pen to paper

After watching Mitchell interveiw on 360 he said all right things to kill the story for the good of team but never said anything about signing a new deal or being close to signing very Dangerfeild like statement which makes me think he must have very good offer from another club and is just waiting see how close swans can get to matching it. I only rate him 50/50 to be in red white next year I think Carlton want him bad and have made a overtop offer.

Daingerfield always said he would make a decision at the end of the year.
Jetta said the same.
So did Buddy.

Once we start hearing Tom say the same we know he is going.

Until then...

Snuck over to the Blues forum to see what they thought. I am proud to say that I resisted contributing to the discussion.

I think their best offer was pick 20 or something. They still have that misplaced sense of entitlement.

Yeesh. My counter would be pick one and Weitering please! Makes as much sense.

All white noise. It's in our hands. Tom has opened discussions nice and early. No 'wait until the season is over' shenanigans. Harley needs to sign Titch up as a priority.

Yea still very early in year swans probably have not made a offer yet and all noise would be from his manger trying find out his market value. I just didn't like pause he had when asked if he be in red white next year he deflected to saying how much he likes his team mates and coaches which is good but didn't answer questioned that he was asked.

To be fair, if he doesn't have a contract then he can't say he'll be here. It's simply him saying his preference is Sydney. He loves it here but can't completely commit without the club putting up an offer. He's said he wants to stay here & thrown it back to the club to come up with an offer. There's nothing more he can do without negatively impacting his contract value imo.

I understand where you are coming from, of course we'd all love our gun players to commit to the club no matter what. But it would be a pretty stupid business decision for him to come out in the media & commit before he's got a contract offer negotiated. Yeah it would prevent other clubs making offers sure, but it would reduce the offer the club would be willing to give as they'd have him over a barrel.

He's been very transparent and we know his management have only just started talks with the club. He's openly said his preference is us & without a contract in hand it's the best indication you can get of a player committing to the club without impeeding his value too significantly. In fact, it may increase his contract value as it's now up to the club to come up with a competative offer for the player who's openly expressed his love for the club. I.e. The club would look a bit silly letting a gun player who loves the club leave.

I'm confident he'll stay on & become a champion of the club in the ROK mould.

Treloar said that his preference was to stay with GWS but Collingwood offered more
Yeah of course mate. I'm not saying he's locked in or saying his comments mean he's a certainty. I'm saying he's made it clear he wants to stay & wants his mgmt & the club to sort it out. That's a great thing and good first step in the process. It's as good a commitment he can give without burning his options. It's a sensible decision given his career is just starting to take off. He has every right & should make the most of it. Particularly if he's chasing a longer term deal (e.g. 5 years). He loves the Swans & (I assume based on this) would likely take a paycut to stay. However this doesn't mean negating potential once in a lifetime type offers from other clubs. That would be a bad decision for him & something none of us would do. E.g. Swans offer $600k/yr for 4trs but Carlton offer $850k for 5yrs then who can blame him for taking the Carlton offer really in all honesty?? Malceski, Mummy, Lamb... They all did it & good luck to them.

What would you do GTG? Seems like a no brainer...
600/4 at the Swans or 850/5 at the Blues.
$1m+ difference.

That was obviously hypothetical but yes my point is who wouldn't?

Yeah I realise it was a hypothetical. I was more trying to add to your point... Mitchell will get offers to good to refuse and would be mad to refuse them.

We have an excellent track record of re signing players. Smith, tippo, hanners and parker deals all got done on the hush.

Very confident mitchell will be here. Cemented in 22 and i know its very early, but kennedy hasnt been as good this year. By the end of the year, mitchell could be our contested ball general.

Should be priority number 1

as long as he doesn't say "put talks on hold until the end of the year" i'll be confident in keeping tommy.
Why on earth would he leave to go to carlton. They have been rebuilding for 10 years. He should look at the career trajectorys of guys like gibbs and murphy. Hes established at the swans and knows by now that the club is never too far out of premiership contention

No but Tommy would be on their list no doubt - he and Coniglio being best mates and all.
