Of our rookie listed players I can see Naismith and maybe Newman being promoted to the senior list with Perris being given the 3rd Year Rookie Tag. The others would be kept on for a 2nd year on the rookie list.

I think the Rampe deal shows the club isn't too optimistic about the return of AJ IMO.

Think it should've been 2-3 and he will get complacent?

I know we have a guy on a 9 year deal, but i dont like long term investments in players unless they are the absolute cream and peaking.

If we need to give hanners or parker 4 years to stay whatever.

Dont get me wrong Rampe is a good player, important to the side, but he is not irreplaceable, give him 2 and see what happens, he could easily drop off .

Fair call. Think they may want him to move into Shaw's role next year as well

When is AJ out of contract?
This year I believe

Issue would be someone else taking him I guess but who would want him?

i just meant why clutter our cap with a kid who most likely never plays
but seems cold to just cut a premiership player and id like to see him given every chance to play

But its a business at the end of the day. Rookie list or outside the cap would be a nice compromise

True and that also another club might of been involved in the bidding. Agree that 4 years for a player like Rampe is too long, but I doubt it will harm us going forward $$$ wise

FA is changing the length and quantity of player contracts. I suspect 3/4 is the new 1/2. It's forward thinking like this that will make the Buddy deal look so good in hindsight.

He was out of contract at the end of last year and was re-signed. No doubt he is on a base contract plus match payments, just as he would if he was on the rookie list. Regardless of where he is listed he'll take up a spot. On the senior list we can replace him via LTI with another player from the rookie list. On the rookie list he would be holding a spot. If we rookie him, it would be because we could get 3 players off our senior list as required.

True

The club will sign him for a year is my guess (based on nothing)
