Looking at our current list we should not be near salary cap pressure really imo
Hawthorn had enough room to make a play for Carlisle, meaning they are paying their squad over a million dollars less than us (incredibly conservative minimum of $400k for Carlisle, $600k extra cap for us). Frightening.

Even allowing for the mega bucks Buddy and Tippett take, if i recall Tippett was front ended so must ve lower this year, if there is pressure now it is poor management simple as that, given the players we just lost.

Dean towers needs to be paid I guess

So who would we say are our "untouchables" ie move heaven and earth to retain. JPK, Parker, Hanners and Heeney im struggling to think of many more.

hanners has 5 years

Tippett is a priority surely

I dont think he is, given we have invested a fair amount into Buddy. I mean we would love to keep him but we wont be breaking the bank again to secure him. Would we have gone for him if the timing was reversed and we snagged Buddy 1st?

Sinclair and Naismith better come good then :p

Wonder how much Reid is on, and Rohan

Id do everything I could to keep tippett if he has a good year

buddy has to get on the park

Reid is the one id look to move on asap. Contract must be quite large after he had 1 decent season then signed on. Hasnt really shown that form since, except for glimpses this year.

Considering our lack of young key position players I think we'd be hesitant to push Reid out the door.

Tippo is the biggest concern. Reckon he'll take kindly to a likely pay drop?

Can't see him even being asked to quite frankly.

We're already one of the youngest lists in the AFL. That translates as: we have the majority of our players in lower bands of remuneration.

Will another club pay $200k more than us per year for him? Maybe. But it would be a massive call.

Saw a report in the HS where the Hawks were prepared to 'restructure its player payments' to fit Carlisle in.

Sounds like they have some room ($500k+?), but that would necessitate some juggling.

But we're still over the cap and were so desperate to reduce player payments that we traded our first round pick to get rid of Craig Bird? Concerning if true.

It sounds to me like we're setting up for some re-signings in 2016. We may not even be needing Craig Bird's TPP back this year at all. We could just be banking it for next year as a buffer?

Bird, Shaw, Goodes, Pyke, Jetta...I'd imagine we're tracking to be back within our TPP next year, even with Sinclair and possibly Talia coming on board.

We looked at Black. We looked at Schoenmakers. That tells me we have some cap space next year.

Wish there was a website with public info, Like the NBA do with salaries etc

Bird only has a year left doesnt he?

Jetta ,Goodes, shaw, pyke out, sinclair in but cap pressure ?

It does not seem possible does it.

I just cannot get around having "Bird" and "reduces salary cap pressure" in the same sentence.

It is nearly a contradiction in terms or bloody woeful negotiations.

Dude was a trier but effectively the same model as 100's of other midfielders running around the joint. Why would pay anything significant for the most typical footballer in the most typical position without any particularly different features or assets than what you can pick off the shelf pretty much anywhere.

Bloke was just a good midfielder of no particular note - how can you pay excessive amounts for that?

Looking at our list how many would you expect should be paid over the league average salary?

Id say theres a few on inflated wages

Buddy, Tippo, Reid, Hannas, JPK, Parker (pending), Kizza, Mitchell, Macca, Mc Glynn.

Grundy?, Teddy?

I reckon we've moved a few on in recent years.

White, Armstrong (maybe not above average now, but would have been right on it when we picked him up), Morton?, Shaw, Mal, Mumford, Goodes?, Pyke, Bird, ROK, Jetta, LRT, Bolton.

Hope mcglynn isnt on more than 350k, mitchell should not be yet really

We have moved a lot on and added mostly inexperience

Interesting really

TLDR: the club with the 2nd fewest experienced players in the league is over the regular salary cap.

Can't be after this year.

But we're in Year 2 of a complete change in the list chemistry - that is moving to fewer players with top end remunerations, and a larger number of younger/rookie players getting games for us on the cheap.

It looks like rubbish now, but of the 16 players with 50 games on our list at the start of the year, 3 will be there by the end. We'll then lose Teddy.

But in 2016 if we have 18 players on 50 games+ pre-trade period and we trade in 2 or 3 players we'll be closer to where the 4 sides were this year. Still making up ground, but not exactly in a crisis anymore.

Fingers crossed.
