Overpaid - Andrew Gaff. Close thread

Isn’t Jeremy McGovern still top 3 most paid players in the league?

He’s my pick for most over paid.

Sam Reid (Sydney) was up there for a while

Marc Pittonet

According to some Ben McKay is the highest paid player in the AFL.
And he's rubbish.

Rory Lobb has put his hand up.

He’s been the best KPD this year, reckon Grimes is probably overpaid based on current form.
Grimes was probably never on a premium wage. It's also hard to be critical of club greats that earnt their big contracts and more but are in their twilight years and not playing like their 27 anymore.

What would Franklin have been on in his last year or two? You can't really blame them.

McGovern would be a similar example.

Thing is, the real critique should come on guys in their prime or young stars players who are way overpaid and haven't delivered on it yet.

A few overpaid which spring to mind are Dustin Martin, the McKay brothers, the King brothers.
You have to laugh at comparing Dusty to those. He's earnt that coin and more with what he delivered to Richmond. We could pay him a million bucks to sit on the bench next year and it'd still be worth it for his career with us.

Those other guys you mentioned have delivered squat for their clubs.

3 norm smiths is decent value.

Well WCW offered 3 million a year for 3 years to Bret Hart at the end of 1996 didnt they?

What was the offer Bret Hart was given from the WWF, in Which he ultimately accepted? that infamous 20 year deal?

the 1st 3 years was 1.5 million a year for 3 years as a full time wrestler.

the next 7 years was $500,000 a year as one of Vince McMahons adviser or backstage agents.

the last 10 years was $250,000 a year as a stand by worker.... essentially, a pension for staying loyal to the company for many years.

Guys like Guthrie and Blitz would be good bang for buck.

Schultz was playing on some real low money until Collingwood I think.

Yes, entirely different situation to the others, and probably shouldn't have clumped them all together like that as you say.

Not disputing that he is one of the very greatest of all time. However, if we are referring to his more recent output (particialry 2024), I still think that he is being overpaid for what he is currently producing.
