I'd say they are similar and Ah Chee is two years younger.

Maybe it's a straight swap.

Not a bad exchange IMO as Lions get a premiership small forward who could help them win another flag..

Eagles get a quality medium premiership forward two years younger. Good Cripps and Owies replacement.

Ah Chee gets his well earned pay rise and should still be able to contribute when we contend finals again.
Feels like a bit of a nothing move though. Moving Ryan only makes sense if it’s for future assets, not for the same player.

I also don’t think we’d get a straight swap. So we’d be giving up something else to be in the same position.

Ah Chee would be a good get, silly to suggest otherwise.

Would add experience in a key age demographic and class forward or back.

Ryan will stay I think - just seems like a classic Colin Young ploy to lock in that extension he'll be chasing. Expect him to extend for 2-3 years once Harley and Oscar are sorted. For better or worse. 2 years beyond '26 takes him to 32 - that would about do it.
Ah Chee makes sense if Ryan stays. He's come on nicely over the past couple of years and would be an upgrade on Owies while buying time for the likes of Champion to develop.

Ah Chee also makes sense if we don't extend Cripps.

I just don't see Flyin' Ryan requesting a trade.

Would love Ah Chee at the club, but to complement, not replace Ryan.

By gunpoint?
If gunpoint is a contract he can’t say no to, heavily front ended and with ‘guaranteed’ midfield time.

There was mixed reports last year how hard we went. Sam Edmund had us with interest in him. While others had him open to a return to Perth if the Eagles or Freo went down that path.

I'd take best offer, whatever that is.

For mine Liam is somewhat of a one trick pony in terms of the position he plays. He has one of the smallest "burst" windows in the team (but to be fair it does create great highlights). He is not a 4 qtr contributor, can go missing in games regularly.

I could give you t least 30 "smalls" that make a better contribution to their side on a week to week basis.

For mine we already have a strong Ryan replacement on the list in Hutchinson. His pre-WC life he was a small forward with solid overhead capability and scoreboard history. We have since tried to reverse engineer him into a mid and it isn't working. At least he will now have a tank to be a 4 qtr Ryan replacement.

We also have Champion, Brockman on the list with likely Walley and Williams to come in the draft.

He will hold back development and growth.

190cm isn't really a small fwd.

We have enough under 22 players now. We will be drafting another 5 to 7 18 year olds.

We are losing more senior players early in Gov and Sheed.

Likely moving on Petruccelle and Hunt. Cole possibly.

We simply have a massive shortfall in players between 25 and 30. That needs addressing and will be.

If Ryan asks to be traded it's his call not ours. And another senior player lost early.

Would much rather replace a known quantity with a similar level player than taking a punt on another 18 years old.

The club getting proactive and chasing players, love it and hope we hear more names. 👍👍
Great isn't it, very happy with how 2024 trading played out even if we didn't get all our desired targets.
2025 trade period has started no different, going after any player that can improve our list, missing several again and that's ok, there would be plenty of players we are into that we know nothing about yet.

WC doesn't advertise what our plans are.
The new list management, Woosha and Pyke who are responsible for list management decisions are significantly better than the previous regime.

Well yes so would literally anyone else except Phil the ****wit.

Imagine making up a story about the recruiting boss being kicked out the the negotiation room, only to then make up a story about getting fleeced by ****ing Carlton.

Phil the phony shoulda quit to whore island while he was ahead.

It is getting a little worrying we are going down last years path again.

At the time Baker, Owies and Graham all solid pick ups and in our 5 win team should’ve been plug and play to maybe snag another 2 or 3 wins to get to 7 or 8. Does that bring in Chad Warner ect.
While 2 out of the 3 can run through the midfield they ain’t pure mids. Moved out of the high end mids part of the draft as well.

I like Starcevich and McVee pick ups (not so much Duncan) but they ain’t going to help to fix our main area of need and most likely neither are picks 1 and likely pick 2 for two to three years. Contested ball winners and a link mid.

Now we have had some links to mids like Erasmus, Philips and even Jack Steele those rumours seemed to have dropped off a little. All we get now is Eagles are looking at mids.

Eagles clearly have minimal leaks at the moment which is great but I hope they don’t go down this path again of no pure mids and ruck.

Yup good post Elite

The Ruck should be the number one priority and mids ..seeing that Cameron is gone I would look at Marshall and for the mids Erasmus

Ah Chee would be our 2025 Matt Owies

Signing a player for the sake of saying we signed a player, regardless of whether he is a good fit or not.

Its the same mistake again. Instead of just signing anyone, sign players we need first
Ah chee is a huge upgrade into our forward line.. he at least shows up each week, can plug a hole down back or play wing.

He's not exactly lighting it up. I'm certainly not losing any sleep over him staying at the Dogs.

You realise half forward is an area of need, right? We don't talk about it much (if at all) but Ryan is rumoured to be on the outer, Cripps was supposed to retire this year, Owies is useless, Long hasn't quite come on, Champion is a couple of years away from being regular best 23, and we're playing the likes of Gross, Hutchinson, Dewar through there trying to keep them in the AFL side.

Riley Garcia, who we should’ve got last year.

Dumb list management that we didn't pursue him and Sheldrick hard last year. Been lucky that Dogs' side is stacked while Sheldrick has entrenched himself at Sydney.
