Matt crouch, blake acres, Steele sidebottom, mitch Duncan, Jack steele, Jack viney, Dion prestia, dylan shiel, ollie wines, Jack macrae, tom liberatore, Luke Parker, David swallow, tom mitchell, adam treloar, Stephen coniglio, Taylor Adams - that's nearly 20 just off the top of my head
Well, that’s 20 about 17 of whom are not comparable to Steel.

Only ones possibly like Steel are Viney, Wines and possibly Macrae..
Rest are too old, cooked, too outside, too injury prone or a combo of all these things.

Regarding Ryan, would the Saints be silly enough to consider giving up their future first for our second rounder this year (19) and Ryan? Their drafting strategy suggests they think they’re heading up the ladder. If the AFL dismantles in part the NGA and father/son rules, picks next year might carry a bit more weight.

Paywall broke this article from Eliza on West Coast game of Staying or Going...She did the full list.

She hasn’t exactly been ruthless. We’re going to need the AFL to give us extra list spots if we want to keep everyone she says is staying or likely staying.

I'd want to keep that pick until the second day of the draft; clubs often get serious FOMO over players when they have a night to think about it, and we could get some decent currency for that pick alone.

We should definitely be looking to bundle up later picks with Ryan to move up and grab an extra first rounder this year or next.

Ryan is contracted and they've shown they want him with the 4 year offer on decent coin, so play hard ball with them

Random trade proposal because I'm bored at work.

WCE
OUT: 1, 23, 36
IN: 3, 5

RIC
OUT: 3
IN: 7, 23

ESS
OUT: 5, 21, 29
IN: 1

GCS
OUT: 7
IN: 21, 29, 36

Essendon gets 1 for Duursma while holding onto pick 6. We keep 2 while picking up 3 from Richmond and 5 from Essendon, allowing us to get Sharp, Cumming and one other highly rated player. Richmond get their choice of CDT/Lindsay while still being able to pick up Grlj and generating an extra pick. The Suns offload their pick for points. We go to the draft with 2, 3, 5 + 16.

Draft order becomes:
ESS
WCE
WCE
RIC
WCE
ESS
RIC
STK

We would need to trade players out (Ryan, J.Williams) for picks to match bids later. Richmond might want Cumming but if they want CDT/Lindsay, this should work for them.

100%
We should be turning pick 1 and OA into the best 2 mids in the draft, we are selling an asset to get pick 2 so use it wisely.
If that means we need to trade pick 2 down to someone else to get the next best mid after Sharp, then so be it.
Don't stuff it up, 2 best mids should go close to setting up our midfield for the future with what we have already.
We will go tall with our second selection (wherever it may land) considering all the mids are shithouse.
Look out for Aidan Schubert a lot earlier than expected.

Possibly swap Ryan and our F2 for their F1. Would rather keep 19 this year if for no other reason than to help move up the draft order in conjunction with other picks. There’s also a good chance of a slider getting through to that pick like Rodriguez as one possibility

A pretty solid chunk of those would come in and be our best mid
When you are trying to put experience and leadership around our midfield, you need certain players in a certain age bracket and not too old that the decline comes faster than T Kelly.
They need to be available for 2 years minimum and not cost the earth.
Jack Steele is 1 I would have on a shortlist with negotiations with STK with Ryan.
The other is L Neale if he wants to come back to WA after BRI win B2B premierships this year, for a late pick and his salary off the books for BRI.
All those others mentioned don't offer anything in a leadership space.

Little bit relieved about this but well done Mitch, good WA boy with a fantastic career.

Has development coach written all over him. Certainly hope we’re in his ear

Wouldn’t be the worst idea for him to pull on the boots for the WAFL team either if he was happy to do so

WC OUT: 1, 13, 22, 32, Ryan WC IN: 5, 6, 7

ESS OUT: 5, 6, 25 ESS IN: 1, 13, 32

GC OUT: 7, Flanders GC IN: 8, 22, 25

STK OUT: 8 STK IN: Ryan, Flanders

We end up with 2, 5, 6 and 7. Essendon take Duursma at 1 and we take Sharp at 2. Depending on who Richmond pick we are still guaranteed 3 of Cumming, CDT, Schubert, Lindsay and Grjl. Essendon gets their trade up to 1. I've always felt that 5 and 6 wasn't enough of a premium for 1 and 13, but the 25 for 32 downgrade fixes that. Essendon are going to match 2 bids on their NGA guys at 28 and 32 anyway. GC gets a points premium for Flanders of a pick between 11 and 12. Giving us their 7 rather than St Kildas 8 is a nod to us not bidding on any of their NGA's. St Kilda aren't getting all of their trades done without either this years or next years first. Given their win now strategy I think they'd rather it be this years pick, so that they still have draft capital to trade in more talent next year. Someone has to lose elimination finals, might as well be them.

Ben Hobbs seems a bit of a spud to me. Not keen.

I watch him playing for Essendon and think I ‘m glad we didn’t get him. Gets caught htb pretty often.
Yeah agreed, is he even a significant upgrade on what we have or even dev who'd come for free.
Also wasn't he one of the vic kids who didn't want to move interstate?

Disagree, Schubert is a very good talent and if WC see him as a KPD we would be right into him.
Seriously cant see the need to use a top 5 pick on a KPD/tall unless he is generational.

That seems like a gamble on the gap between the teams staying roughly the same. The likelihood is that our F2 moves less than the Saints' F1. I think we would need to ask for their F3 as well if that was the path we were going down.

Well Crouch has retired so he is not comparable at all.

Trying to get my head around this because I always seem to make an error here.

44 players maximum on the list, maximum of 6 cat a rookies and maximum of 2 cat B.

Our list therefore currently looks like this, and we have no open rookie spots? Even if Maric is on the senior list then we're already at the 44 player mark

Now is the chance to spice up trade week. Get to work WCE and get Chad Warner this trade period.

Pillars-
Pick 1 (WCE)
Curnow
Warner

Get to work. We have a bunch of second rounderd to play with. The great chad warner was rather friendly with Harley after swans game.

Wowee seems like swans fans aren't exactly pushing against Warner leaving
I would lead with Pick 2 + Hawks 1st for Warner and Sydney Pick 9 ..
Leaves WCE with Duursma -Warner -Cummings or Farrow or ??
