People flap on about 2022 but he wasn't that great in that GF either, just wasn't completely uncompetitive like his team mates.

He's all cream and no cake.

I don't know if he is cream or cake, but I definitely agree that we should be focused on cake.

We've had 3 generational ruckman in the last 20 years and only one of them has a flag.

We need to upgrade our ruck division, but ruck is the last place we should be spending high end draft picks on.

Technically I agree but NN was deserving of a flag and certainly helped the 2018 team get to the GF .
I would not hesitate to include him in the GF team even if it is emotionally.

Thing is with the mid season draft is basically no one is mapping as a midfield prospect worth picking up. We will probably end up taking Tom Evans while regretting the glutt of talls we have on our list

Id personally just take one of those tall forward prospects as best available and demote Barnett to training only

Up until the last week or two of last season he was playing ruck.

Not really, that’s why they decided to try him as a key defender.

He led the WAFL team in hitouts his first two years, slightly ahead of Livingstone last year.

Can find them here. It was constant 7 possession, 25 hitout type games. His issue was primarily his second efforts moreso then his ruck. Those stats do not show the absolute domination his opponent would have around the ground. Almost on a weekly basis the opposition ruck would get career high disposals.

If I remember right its the 2024 South Fremantle game. South Freo debuted a ruck from the reserves. The reserve ruck had 20+ stats, 30+ hitouts and Barnett had 4 stats and 12 hitouts.... A debutant did that to him

It was around this time we signed him up to a 2 year deal too.... The recruitment staff just too weak to admit a mistake in the end. They tried to turn him into a defender to make him accountable but he isnt capable of that so now he is resting up forward as 2nd ruck and doing 10x poorer job of it then Livingstone

In a ideal world he would be playing WAFL reserves. Id be inclined to drop him anyway as the balance up forward is all off when he plays at present

More of a "Im right, I know im right. Just give it another 3 years and you will see".... then 12 months later you are like "Umm its getting worse" and you have committed to 2 more years of it already

We need to move on from bad decisions quickly and not drown in them. I can see the same thing happening with Clay Hall. He isnt a bloody clearance footballer, he is a defensive mid. Play him as a tagger already.

Jamieson was a mistake too. Making a mistake a 2nd time because you have already made it once doesnt seem the best way to go about business

His issue is everything. He doesnt compete, he is weak, he is slow, he cant kick, he cant mark, he cant handball, he struggles to win hitouts, he has a bad mindset, he doenst have a high football IQ. If he can improve on all of those he can make it.... but I cant see it happening

Grego is new to the mid role and was tagged in the first half. he'll be fine.
Last week he was fine, just not as flashy as the week prior.

When you're gassed you're usually shit. Will be an English style ruck but that's playable even if undesirable.
It doesn't cost us much to wait and see.

I'm fine with Jamieson as a pick, we wanted a ruck so we took one real late. The mistake we have made is to hold on far too long. (especially considering he was an overager playing colts at the time of being drafted)

Barnett was picked at the top of his range but once again it was an OK pick in a shallow draft with other clubs sniffing around too. I still think this year or next you'll see massive gains. If not move on.

We are just having no luck with these sort of things. Would have been lovely if there was some gun mid option sitting there. Hopefully one emerges.
