Or take the second pick and select someone who didn't get drafted last year, someone that we liked and maybe didn't have another draft pick spare to take him with, and develop them.....Clancy Dennis as a KPD comes to my mind.

With Barras gone, gov one foot out the door, harry improving but not great, Brock ok, who are our long term prospects to becoming the next Harris Andrews or Gov. They take time. Is Shanahan that or with waterman out does he go forward.

Or do we take artimus, who missed out. Was he on our draft board last year.

It's an 18 month contract that we should explore a young player potential with our second pick. 3 months in the Eagles WAFL and then a full preseason.
I agree with the second pick should be list need and we need another developing KPD.
C Dennis is the obvious option as he is 1 that's declared a 6 month contract and from WA so no big disruption to the player and if they are interstate.
G Stumpf who is also a late birthday KPD option is having a strong season, but from Vic, also 6 month contract.
Give either of them a go in the WAFL and see if they progress and project good enough for a rookie contract.
Stumpf looks to be tracking ahead of Dennis, but either would be a decent addition to find another developing KPD.

LOL at 5 of the top 8 picks being academy/FA compo.

The saints are in no position to complain

On one of the interviews McCarthy did he was asked about where he’d be watching the draft from - said he planned to be watching it from his home with about 30 or so family and friends
Correct.

Assume he arrives in WA tomorrow
Correct.

Has a flight booked tomorrow morning.

ETA - Perth early afternoon.

Will play with the Beagles on the weekend.

Haven't seen Dennis play but we have had some very good backs come from the Monts.....Gov, Barrass, McKenna, Jones, McKenzie.........Trent.

Unfortunate reports that Shannon Hurn has not nominated for the MSD and will be unavailable for our first selection

He was All Australian CHB last year before he had a serious foot injury, reason he remained undrafted.
Has been running around in the Claremont reserves building and doing ok.
You can't lose your talent in 6 months and interesting Claremont are playing him in the reserves and not as an overeager in the colts with his late December birthday.
Probably means he is too good for colts and still building back from injury and not quite ready to replace a strong Claremont backline in the League side.
I don't know all the specifics of his injury but he has played 6 reserves games in a strong reserves team and you would expect he is a very decent prospect.
Totally agree with our track record of getting some very good players from the non traditional path, Gov being that type of project when drafted but Dennis has the runs on the board as being the only other WA player named in the All Australian squad with B Allan.

Quite depressing seeing the montagebof the success stories despite us having 3 top 2 picks over the last three years. I’m harsh on Maric but hope he adds to that.
