Just watching SA vs Allies, Sharp has shown me more question marks than answers. Nothing giving number 1 pick. Annable covers the ground more like an elite next level player, Sharp has the aerobic traits of Reid but without anything else. Patterson also impressive but also tied to academies. But I’d be bidding on all of them before going Sharp.

Many draft ratings have him in the 5 to 10 range atm

Satisfied with Sharps showing. The only thing that would tank my view was if his ball use was shocking. He showed decent ball use today

At Dyson Sharp worse he's is just a tall Matt P. He tackles like pridda as well and we could do worse.

Dyson suits us. Elite accumulator, two way runner, and gets hands free all the time when tackled, can win clearances.

He does have a lack of versatility and athleticism. But thay doesn't matter since he suits us.

But yes I will walk back the statement of him being Rowell clone. Since he has not showed Rowell power and speed sadly. Reminds me so much of a Tall Matt P

Sharp interestingly set up most of the game not directly inside the contest but positioning as a first receiver at stoppages. He also spent time up forward. When he was directly inside he was good, when he wasn't, not so much.

Gee Annable looked good though. GC constantly kissed on the dick.

Annable is Brisbane

Annable belongs to Brisbane

It’s unfortunate that a few of the guys who are absolutely perfect for us (Annable, Uwland, Addinsall and Patterson) won’t even be available for us to select, draft is ridiculous now.

I thought Harley Barker was really impressive, I hope he falls to our 2nd, I’d take him at Hawks pick if need be though.

Sharp wasn’t amazing by any means but he’s so fundamentally sound, that’s probably considered a quiet game for him and he was still fairly impactful both ways and was very good when used inside.

Sharp wont be a superstar who wins the Brownlow but he is someone who will fix a giant ass hole we have in our midfield as a extractor style of player.

If he works out a bit like say a Clayton Oliver type, then id be happy

It's really interesting with Sharp in that if he performs at a similar level to this for most of the year he could easily be there for the Hawks pick, a bit similar to how Hewett was a number 1 contender going into his draft year before drifting out.

This is basically word for word how Essendon rationalised taking McGrath at pick 1 over McCluggage and Taranto.

Not too far wrong. Issue with Essendon is they didnt have a draft strategy beyond that. If we have both pick 1 and pick 2 it literally changes everything with how we would go through the draft

To be honest if we had pick 1 and only pick 1 id probably take Rodriguez myself and not Sharp but if we go with 1 and 2 then im wanting it to be Sharp and Rodriguez. We can afford to take the 200 gamer knowing we can take the potential superstar next

Who is climbing up the board ahead of him? Literally every player I see doing this is tied to a academy.

Might as well trade back and bank some extra picks for doing so if you want those two for the first 2 Eagles picks.

These are the 6 bunnies:

Contested Beasts

Sharp - 188cm. Clearance beast more than possession monkey. There's a knock on his versatility. Decent decision maker, okay by foot. Ranked 5-10 so is not in form

Greeves - 191cm. Looks like Smillie, plays like Smillie. Contested beast. Disposal is a bit wonky.

Balanced

Rodriguez - 184cm. Composed. Looks to b good at all. Ranked outside top 10.

Outside

Josh Lindsay - 183cm. Fast. Silky. Good Disposal.

Sam Grill - 182cm. Fast. Silky. Good Disposal.

Ruck

Cooper Duff-Tytler - 200cm. Best ruck at this age by a mile.

I'm going to give the outsiders a miss with #1 or #2. It's just bad business taking an outsider with a top 5 pick. I'm also not taking a ruckman. We don't have 5 years to wait around for him to be able to play. We'll find a ruckman elsewhere.

I guess the champs will tell us a lot. There may be a bolter. But at this stage, I'm taking Sharp and Rodriguez. By the end of the champs, that might change. With Hawks R1 I'd be looking at Lindsay/Grill/Curtin. Put Harley, Sharp, Fred into that midfield and have Lindsay or Grill breaking lines by foot off halfback or wing. Or Curtin as KPD.

And I'm not buying Sharp being a Priddis type extractor only.

I am going to wait for the champs to be over to make an assessment on Sharp.
I only watched a bit of the game today and it looked like he was resting/playing forward also.
When he plays the primary mid role he just seems to excel and has a high ceiling and is as good as any at the primary extraction role and doing all the grunt work.
His decision making is very good and it looked like he was struggling late in the game to cover the ground, was he injured?

Geez you must have posted this while I was writing.
I 100% agree with your assessment of the players we need and their attributes and where they should be targeted.
Looking forward to the championships in full to see who can stamp their claim on our pick 1.

I’m not sure how people are low on Sharp, his floor is so high that there’s just no way he isn’t at minimum a really good AFL player, he may not be a bonafide superstar but he’s easily the safest prospect in this years pool to me.

I think you take him and then go for Lindsay at 2 to get your back half distributor or Duursma who definitely has the most upside - but is riskier.

Then you trade up with Gold Coast for Port’s first or with Sydney for theirs and you get Rodriguez or Grlj as that transition and line breaking mid.

If you retain the Hawks pick in trading up you address the wings with Burton or Barker or maybe take Curtin or Swadling.

If the academy players are the highest rated and best suited to us, we need to bid can’t be a beta-cuck club like north.
North made deals that gave them additional picks or pick upgrades, which many believe was in exchange for not bidding.

using your ability to bid on them to gain an advantage for your club isn’t beta cuck behaviour.
