I've been off for a while and don't have access to a computer so not sure if this has been said before.

We keep Reid, our first this year Duursma (helps keep Reid at the Eagles). As for a compensation pick which we use to get Curtain back.

Then our pick from Hawthorn we get the best next defender or forward?

Will that offer get us band 1 compensation factoring in the recent rise in salary cap?
If it didn’t the Lions would find the extra $50k-$100k a season to make sure it did rather than trade a first pick to get him. Especially when they need all of the picks they have.

Plus a key forward is still high on their priority list.

Was listening to Triple M this morning while out working and Ryan Daniels reckons Brisbane's got a 900k deal for Oscar while the Eagles is around 600k ladened with triggers and incentives...the guy is 26 years old and can't even get up to train during the week and you're gonna be offering him 900k? F*cking seriously?!

Take pick 2 and run like the wind, Eagles.
Did he say much more about players we might target? Harley? I thought he might’ve got some ‘vibes’ from Pyke after their chat.

Have seen him saying he thinks we will ask for Draft assistant after that interview. Has has said it previously too.

Was made so glaringly obvious tonight.

WA talent this year is good enough for WCE to pick a few of the players.
Pick 1 best player in draft then after that start looking at WA talent.
Just take the best available regardless of where they're from i.e. Shanahan, Gross, Grego.

I'd be asking for access to Annable in Oscar negotiations, just saying.

Brisbane wont say they are desperate but its the difference between another GF win for then. We are in the box seat to get a really good deal, if he decides to leave ?

He'd be mad not to go. More money, better service, and potentially a flag. He's no Dev Robbo.

I think all parties already know he's going.

Not a fan at all of picking someone just to make another player happy. Take the best.
Agree. Basing a high pick on a current very long distance relationship between two very young people is fraught. Personal experience tells me such relationships are veeery difficult to maintain. I’d take it as a factor but not THE factor. Besides, could things turn toxic if the relationship finishes?

West coast pick 2 for pick 4 and davies and knobel.

I think we should be trying to get pick 4, but we should be trying to keep our first two picks at the same time.

See if we can bundle up the Hawks picks with a F2 and a commitment not to bid on academy picks.

Given the price dogs paid in 2023, that might not be enough.

Pick 4 is worth 1962 points

Pick 13 and 19 are worth 1876 points

Bundling up picks for a points premium is going to be far harder under the new system

For sure.

I would consider throwing in Hawks 2nd if we got something back we could use for points. I don't think we will use more than 3 picks given we also have 2 NGA prospects and a F/S we need points for.

It would give GCS and extra 500 points, and give us another 200 to match bids along with our pick 49.

The other option is to break up pick 19 for points and then on-trade them to GCS. For instance Essendon has 23 + 27 (1485 points) would they trade that 19? would be another 500 points for GCS.

Those are the old points values

I went to the WA vs Vic Country game down at MRP, people who say this draft sucks etc. don’t make sense to me, this draft is littered with kids who fit exactly what we need.

Duursma looked incredible at times, glides across the field, strong aerially, good ball use and played midfield nearly the entire day.

Rodriguez’s midfield craft was brilliant all day, you can tell how smart he is when watching him live, he reads the play a second quicker than anyone else.

Swadling played pretty much exclusively forward unfortunately but you could see his footy smarts because even know he isn’t a natural forward he still crumbed very well, on another day he could’ve had 3 goals.

Hibbins Hargraves was brilliant, particularly late, looks like a game changer, reminds me of Bailey Humphrey.

Banfield had a really slow start but worked his way into it and was absolutely immense late, he was everywhere, you could see the running power. Took critical marks in our back line, then on the wing then took the intercept mark in our forward line and assisted the game winning goal.

Whan unfortunately looks very good, probably the best NGA prospect for the WA clubs ever.

Curtin started poorly but ended up having a very good game, he’s a mountain of a kid, Vic Country had nothing for him in the air, I do worry about his lack of mobility at the next level though. As much as I like him, I probably wouldn’t be spending a true top end pick on him, if he’s there at the Hawks first it’s a different story though.

Farrow’s stocks rose, didn’t get a lot of it but used it really well when he did, I’ve liked his game at Colts level so far.

Lindsay is probably my personal favourite player in this draft, easily the most skilled and best ball user in this crop, he ran the show, particularly early on, everything was going through him, he’s a genuine offensive engine.

Hudson Walker was really solid for WA too, kicked the match winning goal of course but covered the ground well all day and tackled hard.

Overall it was a very fun game to watch and every key player we should be targeting put on a show.

Walking away from the game

WA midfield was very good especially in light of Vic country ruckman being dominate and giving Vic country first use

Loved Whan and Rodriguez and Farrow

Like they moved Kelly forward when he wasn't getting the footy

Pissed of Swadling didn't get more mid time he is our best clearance inside ball winner, but still impacted the game as a half forward despite not playing there before
He had the best clearance of the day though when was in the centre

Farrow looked good as a mid but WA backline is pretty crap Cattalini and Thomas where terrible at defending
So maybe we need Farrow there as he can defend.

Tyler Williams had the least game time on the ground but showed how good his kicking how Will York got so much game time over him staggers me

Charlie has the second least game time but had some moments in the last

Oscar Wills kicking early was poor but got better as game wore on and was pretty good at every thing else

Charlie Watson was very good a skinny key forward, Cody was terrific dominated

Hudson Walker and Heath Mellody had some good moments

Tom Phillips was not up to the level looked overwhelmed

Hope they bring Marcus Cassidy into the squad

drop York bring in some more speed McGlade would be handy in that game
