I think we should experiment with a pure tagger while we are rebuilding.

I know McQualter wants to teach them how to play and win by attacking but a little help goes a long way and if we can limit 1 mid to 15 less possies each week wouldn't that be better

Not like Hutch is doing much, get him to lock down

Isn't that basically what Hough is now?

I mean Hough kept Smith to 13 second half touches after having 25 halfway through the 2nd quarter.

He's definitely playing some kind of negating role on oppo's most dangerous mid. Not a tagger, but I'd say a role similar to that of how Lions have used Dunkley and how Freo have at times used Young.

Neither.

If we pull Sharp and Rodriguez this draft, we're looking at need an elite outsider and a Redden type.
If we pull Sharp and Lindsay this draft, we're looking at need a balanced mid and a Redden type.

Not sure either of this guys are that type of player. Prefer Dev for pick 80, see if we can get Hobbs for a R2, or just find someone in the draft. Can Hough, Hutch, Gross, or Grego be this player?
Surely Sharp is a big upgrade on Redden?

Redden was a solid support midfielder but Sharp is/has been touted as #1 in the draft. More than part of the support cast.

They’re not even similar.

Redden had a level of versatility to his game that allowed him to play a complimentary role to those around him, but I would never in a million years think Jack Redden could rotate mid/forward and spend time in the goal square.

It’s hard to find a comparison to Sharp, but it’s not Redden. I’d say it’s more akin to a Noah Anderson type. When Noah was first drafted he was considered steak knives to Matt Rowell and a bit of a Jack of all trades midfielder without any standout strength. It’s that balance in his game that has become his genuine strength and I’d put Sharp in that same mould.

I think we need both. It's pretty hard to get more than 3 or 4 elite midfielders. You have to have other rotations like Stenglein, Redden, Cera. You don't want these guys getting 30. You want them to be able to hold their own. If we get Sharp, we're still going to need a Redden/Stenglein.

I just had a read of the Richmond thread. Similar to ours.

1. They're even less keen on CDT than we are.
2. They're all over Sharp, Duursma, Lindsay, Fred. Lindsay eaarly then most swapped to Sharp after the SA/Metro game.
3. They still want Reid. Except one dude.

I’m just gonna say sharp is showing he’s better than any of the metro boys. I think I’d like to see Grlj get CBA time.

------------

CDT - He's basically Tim English without the extra 6cm and without the marking and blow wave haircut.

It's a no for me.

----------

Schubert… lol norf trading out of this draft. They'll fold, for sure.

-----------

Get Harley

--------

Who didn't pass that to McCarthy in goal square? Was it the fat little Essendon dud that Cal hypes up beyond belief?

-----------

sharp head and shoulders above the rest, doing it in the mid & up fwd

-----------

Sharp is still in the no.1 convo. Was laughable seeing him in the teens

-----------

Get Harley
------------

greeves is unironically a little TOO thicc

it's not even that he's fat, he's just got too much muscle lmao, the opposite problem of a lot of draftees

-----------

sharp was grlj's man those first 3 stoppages this qtr and sharp got a touch in each of them
-----------

Get Harley

------------

Sharp has high impact disposals in the middle and doesn’t get too many cheap chip kicks in the back half of the ground.
His DE may seem low at times but that’s because he’s doing the 40m + kicks to the hot spot, not the cheap safe options at the back half of the ground.

If WC take Duursma and CDT with 1 & 2 I’d be jumping for joy.
-----------

Get Harley

---------------

I will say Norf had to trade for a KPD last year. There is not a single one that looks any good this year except maybe Carlton FS Dean

-------------

Geez Grlj was all over him but Sharp got that handball away like he wasn't there

-----------

Get Harley
-------------

Sharp looked like a big midfielder, CDT looked like a ruck who’s good at ground level. He was non existent in the air again, he had one decent transition play with Greeves that I remember (happy to be corrected). He had some okay kicks but also kicks that he doesn’t weight properly and go over his teammates heads.

I’d love to see him use his pace in transition or to run a bloke down, he lacks a certain physicality defensively (he’s not soft) where he’ll smash a bloke in a tackle or bump or crash a pack.

Pick 1 on him is a huge risk for teams who need 200 game players like us and WCE.

Sharp, Greeves and Duursma should all be ahead of him as pick 1 at this stage imo.

-----------

Get Harley

------------------

Stfu campaigner we want WC to take CDT. Imagine how embarrassing it will be for them if he is A grade and they pass and have Matt Flynn as their ruck

----------------

I really hope we can get Josh Lindsay with one of our picks! I really rate him and is arguably the best kick in the draft.

------------

There's always guys not getting a crack.

Ramsden (Hawks), Smith (Brisbane) Madden (GWS), Green (Sydney)

Don't need a 1st rounder.

------------------

For perspective yesterday

Duursma had 17 of his 26 disposals as uncontested.
Complimented with 4 clearances, 3 inside 50s and 3 score involvements.

Lindsay had 21 of his 29 as uncontested.
Had 4 score involvements and 3 rebound 50’s.

Next most on the field was 12 uncontested disposals.

I also argue U18 football is less accountable footy defensively where you don’t get the luxury of that amount of space at AFL level compared to coates level and U18 championships.

Rodriguez 17 disposals, 4 clearances for 2 goals
6 tackles (game high was 7)
Game high 7 inside 50s
Game high 8 score involvements

Putting the Richmond hat on.
I’m sure Blair, Giesh and co value the high impact game of someone like Rodriguez compared to the above two.

-----------

Get Harley

-----------

The super consistent Lindsay was named among the best for Country and was their top possession winner on the day. His disposal efficiency was a little down on what we've come to expect, but he was Country's main avenue for ball transition and mostly sliced and diced with his weapon of a left boot.

-----------

Lindsay just looks like a Kane Farrell clone who was a pick in the 50s.

We need mids.
-----------

My power rankings for Richmond picks:
1.Duursma
2.Rodriguez
3.Sharp
4.Lindsay
5.CDT
6.Hibbins-Hargreaves
7.Grlj
8.Emmett
9.Greeves
10.Walley

-----------------

Pick 2 is not the only way to get a ruck

--------------

So who's everyone jerking over this week?

-----------

Get Harley
-------------

History says you do not take a ruck early. There’s a couple of success stories taken early, but most rucks are taken later in drafts or are rookies. And there’s nothing to suggest a gun ruck is needed to win a flag.

And successful rucks can easily be acquired from other clubs cheap as chips : Nank, Cameron, Grundy, Witts, Meek…

--------------

Harley not coming man.

Let's be honest we got kotd last year with the guys sliding. I'd take some of these guys before players taken before Trainor and Armstrong. How the **** did they last to the 20s 🤣🤣

Sharp > Bone Allan for an easy one to start. Same with the GWS blokes.

------------
Here’s is my top 30 based on the futures, CTL, champs, academy and trial games I’ve seen. It’s pretty fluid after 12 imo.

Tier 1
1. Patterson (gc)
2. Duursma
3. Sharp
4. Greeves

Tier 2
5. Fred
6. Addisall (gc)
7. NHH
8. Annable (lions)

Tier 3
9. Grlj
10. CDT
11. Whan (Freo)
12. Lindsay

The rest.
--------------------

If we take small Tim English with pick 2 the rebuild is cooked.

-----------------

and if we cant get Harley, what do we do? were stuffed.

This draft sucks

---------------

Sharp > Bo Allan for an easy one to start.

reply: Revisit in three years

--------

Grlj:

Good players kick the ball.
100%, nor did he use his run & carry. He was very disappointing.

------------

harley not coming nor do we want him. thinks it is still u 18 has not transitioned.

-----------

Sharp & Fred plus saving $1.5 mil for a gun free agent in 12-24 months v Haley (fat ) Reid

I think Hewett has more upside than Harley personally.

Looks hungry and has energy and nous.

Just hasn't clicked

Replace Get Harley with Get Dev and it's basically identical to this board.

Did lol at Harley (Fat) Reid.

Can we please have a look at Bo Allen in the midfield before draft time? In the WAFL at least?

There’s obviously a big need for combative inside ball winners but to recruit effectively we need to know what we have in he and Hall.

We don’t want to create a glut of inside mids with limited versatility. We tried that before with the era of Masten, Ebert, Stevens, Swift, Scooter where they each struggled to maximise their talent.

Only need 1 of Erasmus, Sheldrick & Phillips. But sure chase them all until we're locked onto 1.

Having 3 or even 2 of them will clog the list & block younger higher ceiling players from development.

Based on nothing at all, seems to me Sheldrick probably is most likely to be an effective inside mid long term, followed by Raz then Phillips.

I think we are drafting 3 plus our NGA/FS prospects.
If Oscar goes we have another high pick.
The most likely possibility is if WC feel the quality is there we trade up with our 2nd round added to the Hawks for a top 5-6 or use some future picks.
Trading Ryan to Brisbane would get us another pick.
