I mean it is an improvement and something that will tangibly help and is both a societal and club net gain, but when the AFL give Norf, a team we will likely be competing with post re-build, additional end of first round draft picks for being just as bad as we are, then we should be at least asking for comparible terms.

Its one thing to not get it, but we should be aiming higher. FFS
Pykey would rather damage the club then hurt Kane Cornes feelings by asking for assistance

That simple really

I see it as the club having too much pride to ask for picks.

I think we want to avoid the inevitable envy that will poison Victorian media brains.

to give benefit of doubt, could it be that there is no point in assistance, because it will be tied to trading for players and we can't identify any that want to come and trade for? I'm just looking back and north and rubbish they got with their trading. all of a sudden you are spending a 2nd round pick on someone that would be delisted.

Club thinking ahead and must have really high hopes for our NGAs. If we get better access and list spots for them it's a good win for the club.

The hope we would get the north package, where you are incentivised to trade them (as they might not be there in the future). We would then simply use them as points chips to try and get the GC picks. This would be the perfect outcome for us imo.

Lets say we end up 1, 2, 14, 20, 32, 50 (Allen band 1)

If we got two end of first round picks that's
1, 2, 14, 20, 21, 22, 34, 52

GC should safely take 21, 22, 34 for pick 9 (1767 vs 1355 points or more than a 30% bump (Hopefully they need less with a threat of using 1/2 on their guys).

We then left with
1, 2, 9, 14, 20, 50

2, 20 for Essendons 6, 7.

Go to the draft with 1, 6, 7, 9, 14 to be used in the live draft
50 used to match an academy bid if one comes.

We could basically plunder the entire SA group with that - e.g. Sharp, Cumming, Schubert, Marsh, Barker or a 100 other combinations.

I haven't heard anything on that for a while so presume nothing has changed and he is indeed going to Brisbane.

Basically on the assistance the clubs take is that they don’t want AFL help but if they did it would be extra list spots or Cat B changes.
I am guessing with our NGAs this year, and Banfield showing AFL traits, the Eagles would appreciate extra spots.

If we got extra spots, how long would we have them? From memory, North were granted extra spots for a couple of years.

Troy is 2028 draft I believe?
Looks to be a decent prospect if he is already playing U16's championships as a bottom ager.
The Warner family are mad WC supporters so hopefully can get Chad as a RFA in 2027 and Troy the following year.
The Warner family are not mad WC supporters they were Geelong supporters prior to the boys getting drafted. Way to make shit up.

His dad has always been a Geelong supporter.

If we got end-of-first-round compo, which picks might we package up to Collingwood for both Cameron and Hill?

If we sold the idea that our compo picks would benefit Collingwood in some way to the AFL, they might be more persuaded to help us out! ;)

Club legend and 2nd on our all time goal kicking Jack Darling was a priority pick.

I hope the club realizes this before letting pride get in the way of making an assistance request.

That was before you had to ask for them though.

Meh, the facts are right there.

Historically bad, captain leaving, draft totally compromised, handful of players medically retired.....

It's not North tin rattling, we're still a "powerhouse" off field.

We may also be looking for longer term fixes for the WA teams, rather than a short term priority pick fix. If we can get permanent extra rookie picks/ NGA picks for the travel burden issues, that’s a bigger win maybe than a priority pick.

But pride sure as shit shouldn’t get in the way of asking for a fix to the current corrupted system.

Agree to disagree.
Don't know what you know but Warner family have been long time WC supporters.
The now are Sydney of course.
Not going to get into a pissing contest, but my source has been family friends of the Warners for decades.
This is why if Chad comes back to WA to play, WC were in the box seat and still are.

Pride can be a good thing, but it can just be a mask for arrogance and arrogance can quickly turn you into Carlton or Essendon.

I think we need to be careful not to follow this path
I feel its more likely a case of the club getting a strong sense that our request would be declined, so why bother putting your hand out? If a Norf like assistance package was on the table just waiting for us to claim it, I dar say the club would be taking those picks to the bank

Yeah quite possibly.

The suggestion that if it’s picks we are forced to trade, but the quality of players that maybe willing to come doesn’t match the values of picks is an interesting one, as this would actually benefit the oppo club more than us.

The club surely knows more than us about the details, I can see a scenario where additional list spots and access to NGA is more beneficial.

I can very much get on board with list size/NGA concessions. I think the club needs to focus as much attention on the Academy as possible moving forward, witht the draft becoming more and more "complicated".

I think there are two different and separate concepts here.

Academy rules expanded to same level as Northern teams. This should happen for all teams, along with the review of Academy alignment and boundaries.

Draft concessions for being so poor since Covid. With two wooden spoons in two years, it's worse than North's record so that's where we should start, and yes we should be asking for something like a mid 1st round pick and extra Rookie spots.

I don’t have much facts to offer this board, just opinions. However in this unique case I can, Trav Warner was never an eagles fan.

As far as where chad would go, I have know idea. Hope he chooses us if he heads west.

Are/were the Warner family WC or geelong supporter's!
