If we are recruiting washed up players from other clubs to come over here and play in our 22 and do the coach's job for them (i.e. teach players how to play their position and prepare for games) then we are in a lot of trouble.

And No, Duncan is not going to come here to play WAFL. Guarantees would have to be made to get him to come here.

If we are after off field or coaching experience to add to the club in the coachs box or footy department i would rather we went after people who have actually done it/been doing it for the last 10 years such as Goodwin and Hinkley rather than a just retired or about to retire greenhorn.

Who are you cutting to squeeze Duncan in?
Obviously the retirements of Sheed & Gov open up 2 spots and the likely exit of Allen

Beyond that, Sinclair, Barnett, Petch, Hunt. Perhaps look to trade either BBW or Jack Williams. (I don’t think we keep both and we have shown a desire to pump games into Shanahan and Reid.)

So there is 7 spots.

Assuming we don’t get a list size increase as a concession from the AFL, then I think we would need to make a call on at least Long/Johnstone/Chesser to get Duncan across.

Gov and Sheed spots are pretty much already taken by McCarthy and likely Newton.

I’m taking every single one of those players before Duncan.
I would be inclined to agree, although I think we have seen enough of all of them to genuinely make a call on them.

I’m not as bullish on Jack Williams making it as others are, but I think we keep one of him or BBW as depth, not both.

Long has had his injury troubles but hasn’t come on as we’d like this year. Johnston and Chesser both have had injury troubles years and despite some talent haven’t quite had the run at it we would have liked.

I forgot to probably include Livingstone and Rawlinson in that list too. Rawlinson particularly vulnerable given we picked up Newton mid year I think.

We arent North where we are giving up the equivalent of Pick 2 for Caleb Daniel. If Mitch Duncan comes across as player-coach, it would be for very little.. Think Jack Darling trade.

Wouldnt mind him here at all as part of the coaching staff and occasional sub.

Nah we trade pick 3 for Matt Owies

Not overly keen on recruiting the corpse of Mitch Duncan. I see people making the Sam Mitchell comparison as he was a similar age when we picked him up but I wouldn't really put those two in the same league to justify a Duncan pick up.

Yes, Duncan is (was) a star but Mitchell was a genuine champion superstar player and football brain.

Absolutely would love to get him over as a coach or in development but he seems pretty much done as a player.

Looking at Callum Wilkie today in the Saints game and it made me wonder if we could turn Bailey Williams into a key back. Has the physical attributes and mentality. Could easily do the ruckwork in the D50.

Has been mentioned a bit. Haselby even asked Bailey if that was a possibility. If we replenish the ruck stocks it is something that should be looked at. Biggest issue is he drops marks that he shouldn’t and that will kill you at AFL level.

So did Hedwards, just get him to put the fist in. He's got the leap.

So glad we got Newton over Murdock... just an easy 41 touches against or woeful wafl side
Did you watch the game? Murdock didn’t look great, the fact he “dominated” and beagles were up for most of the game should tell you enough.

Tried doing too much and got caught a lot, had very few effective disposals.

There isn’t an AFL footballer there.

Is he better than Newton... yes

Newton is 6 years younger, if clubs drafted based on who the best state league players are, Brew would’ve been taken years ago.

More goes into it than that.

Newton is more likely to be an AFL player and I’d suggest that if Newton gets a clear injury run and stays committed to footy, Murdock is his floor.

If hes a player he would have a different relationship with the players than if he was a coach.

Leading by example isnt really a thing if hes the coach, they wont look at him the same.

Bit hard to lead by example on the track as a 35 year old though isn't it?
