well if Reid didn’t meet Mitchell, then what fiasco you keep referring to? Mitchell tonight confirmed it wasn’t a public meeting, unless he is lying.

Yes agree on development over a period of time, but I was more talking about last few years. After all, since everything changed, didn’t development of players also change?

I don’t know if he will help. Why would it? Maybe. Change for sake of change sometimes helps I guess. Next will be the kit person, maybe the accountant and just keep picking names.

Best thing that can help is those players that can set standards. Like hodge at Brisbane say. Coaches can only do so much talking. Are our assistant coaches demoralising the players?
You can't defend what Allen did. He needed to keep that behind closed doors. Just like all the other player/opposition club meetings that go on.

I don't blame Allen. He is young and dumb. I blame his management - Colin Young and McDougall. They would have set the meeting up. And i wonder if they actually planned for the meeting to get outed because they thought the way the media would frame it would put pressure on the club rather than Allen being the villain.

My sibling in the C suite at The West tells me that everybody in high profile industries in Perth (including and especially the AFL) knows that a couple of the media outlets (Channel 10 and Channel 7/The West) have highly placed sources at Perth airport and always know who is coming and going. It is impossible to slip in and out of here without the Perth media knowing you were here. The Young management group would have known this and set this meeting up with Mitchell in Perth anyway. And that is how the Allen meeting was busted - the sources at the airport tipped off the media that Mitchell was trying to sneak in here.

I would have picked Sid Draper most likely, I never liked the baker trade and would not have done it.
I would however have done the pick split as I had very little between 3 and 12.
If we were set on getting baker regardless I am just as content with Allan and Shanahan at our first two picks as I would have been with Allan and Shanahan at 12 and 14.
So basically your point is, "I like Draper but don't like Smith and Langford".

Why did you quote me? That's got nothing to do with anything that I said.

I’ve mentioned it before but we should throw the chequebook at someone like Choco Williams. Who are the experienced coaches around McQualter? Who’s been through the hard yards and had success in the coaching department?

Pyke and Woosha sure but that's not their role.
I was advocating Choco for a development role whilst they were looking for the senior coach.

His contract fiasco. Allen’s meeting got leaked and damaged our brand, regardless of intention. After that and Duggan’s jog to chase Darcy Jones, do you genuinely think the kids look up to these guys? Reckon Choc would have accepted that effort?

Don’t think we can comment too much on the last three years of development in the kids as it’s too soon but there are some green shoots there.

It’s the steady hand and drawing on the experience of having been in this postion before and out the other side.

I’ve said a few times going after players like Callan Ward would have been far better than handing over significant draft capital for “standard setters”. Graham was a free hit, no problem with that one.

I agree with you but with specific regards to Callan ward, his family moved to Melbourne at his wife’s behest, he would have retired but saw the chance for a premiership with gws so went around one last year living in Sydney for a year away from his young family. Would never have come to west coast.

It’s not Duggan hate, he just is very plainly not in the same league as a player aa Touk Miller…
Both are good players, but I think a few here have short memories about how good Duggo has been.

Touk Miller, the midfielder who now is pushed onto the flanks because there are 5 better options than him in a team that's never made finals.

Miller is top 50 midfielder maybe while
Duggan would be a top 20 med defender.

Yeah it’s more the big picture stuff, follow the low cost, older GWS model like C Cornes, Power etc rather than the GCS model of Harbrow, Bock etc.

Keep the picks to build the guys who will be 23-28 when we’re contending.

The concern of the state of the club is far more than just win-loss. The players look and sound broken. The Oscar shit show, the Harley circus, Hough in tears it’s one thing after another.

Choc is a proven development coach, a premiership coach and by all accounts has a great rapport with young blokes and we are a club with a rookie coach, minimal senior assistants around him and half the list is 22 and under.

He is someone we are crying out for, drafting the right players is not the only way to improve the club. You still need to develop them.

Holy shit we are not talking about Choco Williams?

He’s a known culture killer. Was the first bloke moved on in 2016 when Richmond reviewed their football program, and I’m not surprised that the next club he got his sticky fingers on is having culture issues now (Melbourne).

I don’t care if he has runs on the board developing talent, it’s an open secret in the AFL industry that choc is toxic.

What a circus even suggesting him.

Don’t agree with this at all. The players he coached and developed are the ones whose opinion is the best guide. Cite some examples to support your statement and we can have a discussion.

Touk miller is still playing midfield for the suns. It’s pretty clear you have no idea who the guy is…

Duggan wouldn’t be a top 20 anything in the league… I’m not sure you know who he is either

And the clubs he was at went to shit.

You did this in the Oscar thread “provide evidence of your claim” as if Google doesn’t exist and as if you are arbiter of truth and depository of wisdom. I was right in the Oscar thread, and I’m right now.

Choco was let go from Tigers at the end of 2016 because of adverse finding in the football review undertaken by E&Y.

Personally, I don’t want someone at our club who got shown the exit as part of a football department clean out.

Tim English?

You know WB have been searching for another ruckman for a reason, right?

Bloke can't win a ruck contest to save his life.

100%

One of the few bullets we’ve actually dodged is giving that Shawn Bradley looking noodle a massive contract.

No more Tims.

Re. Matt Flynn - the guy has suited up for The Eagles 5 times….and I’m pretty sure he was subbed out of at least one of those because of an injury. He got absolutely pantsed in Round 1 by Jarrod Witts who is probably the most underrated ruck in the league. The fact that the guy simply has barely had a run in the seniors would suggest he should be getting one right now. For better or worse. Bailey Williams is not it - we all know that, surely the coaches do - he’s a playing as a ruck who doesn’t win contests, get the ball or take marks (let alone kick goals), we could literally put Harry Hatrack in the ruck and have a similar outcome.

Get Flynn in there and give him a month at least to show what he’s got at AFL level. If it’s not happening then back to WAFL and pick up the best looking scrubber knocking around in the state leagues in the MSD.

Spend the money on two more years of Jamie Cripps...

18 touches
6 marks (3 contested)
32 hitouts
2 clearances
7 i50s

Yep, don't need that.

So he had a good game? Great.

Bailey Williams was rated 5th best ruck in the league a couple of seasons ago.

Try watching English play instead of quoting stats. Soft as butter and loses CBDs consistently. He's just lucky he has Liberatore and Richards to help out.

So Tigers won 3 of the next 4 flags at the end of 2016 because they had a list that was ready to win flags. How does that speak to Richmond’s development of those premiership players in the preceding years?

Wha people miss is English is not going to put up those stats in our team.

Dogs mids throw the ball around a lot and they are a high possession team.

We are a low possession team who can barely get hands on the ball.

KPI for rucks should be oppo hitouts to advantage, oppo first possession, oppo centre clearances.

Good rucks neutralise their opposition first and foremost.

I don’t think English would rank high on those metrics.

Even in Baileys best games it’s usually case that this direct opponent has had a career best game themselves. That’s is not a goood ruckman.

You mean Touk Miller who would be leading out possessions per game, our contested possession per game, our clearances per game, our score involvements per game, our leading goal kicker? that ordinary player?
