Not freo fans mate, but there are alot issues with the list.

Until we get some quality in, Mini can develop his game plan alongside them. It will take another season or two. I personally said we wont be challenging for the 8 until 2028/29.

I would be very happy to be proven wrong though.

Sure, but Freo fans have notoriously barracked for draft picks, something we used to scoff at.

Touche'

Nevertheless, we need good players and quickly and we havent really hit the mix yet.

It's why we're screaming for midfielders. I am hoping by 2026, we will have the kids who will take us to the promised land and we target areas of need like KPD/Ruck more so through trades by then.

Also appears Dougie Cochrane and Walker will not be in the open draft for next year (early projected top 2 picks). Food for thought to bring that 2026 pick into this draft if it’s for a Curtin ect.

Cal said IF Harley leaves, he expects the Cats are in front.

What the hell does that deal look like? Humphries? JhyeClark? Mitch Edwards? Their first round picks that will be in the 30s to 40s?

Love the show and pod but it’s getting more Vic centric every week.

I thought the AFL had ruled on Cochrane, and it was a no.

A lot of their sources would be Vic player and list managers posturing, so not a true representation of where it’s at on our side.

Happened with Harley the first time around, when they were talking about what we’d accept for pick 1.

That may have been what those clubs thought would get it done, but when the draft came around it looked like we hadn’t even picked up the phone to have a discussion.

He only said that if he leaves, he expects the Cats to be front runner. Also, I think that was in relation to Geelong/Hawthorn.

He never said he actually does expect him to leave to begin with.

Cats don't have the assets to make a realistic play.

Also, he pretty much linked Harley to every Vic club he talked about.

We have HD,Hewett,Gross,Hutch, Hall,HJ TK so don’t think we are screaming for mids.
We are screaming for getting games into them and screaming for a quality ruckman.
Certainly another quality mid or two would be nice for rotations but we aren’t exactly the pits.

I think he has been getting progressively worse for a while, if it wasn't for some insights about contracts and draftees, gettable would be unwatchable like most.

Yep that’s why I put IF in capitals. I’ll bold and underline it next time ;)

He has said previously 8 Vic clubs (Ruled out North and Carlton only) will be having a crack IF Harley wishes to return to Vic but has also said previously he believes the Hawks and Cats are at the front of the queue.

This would break his heart too as a massive Dons man (if he hasn’t made that clear). Apparently on a Dons pod he has said he would give up all 4 first for Harley because he will be that good.

Yep. A few weeks ago Ralph was reporting that the view of clubs was that hawks had overtaken essendon as favourites for harley.

It was a bit of a slip that he let it be known the source of the information was vic club, likely essendon.

Journo's in vic are just communicating what vic clubs think among themselves. The very definition of an echo chamber.

I’m not sure what you have watched this year then. Can’t win and clearance, contested ball and have no link mids.

You could argue Harley, Hewett and Gross will make it as AFL mids and most here would agreed. That’s still not enough for now or the future.

Hutch and Hall have huge question makes over them as mids at AFL level.

Whooper is a wingman and TK uncertain to be on the list in 2026 and if he is what is his output as a mid.

At the risk of being twee, it's always darkest before the dawn. Young list, new game plan, tough draw, it was always going to be ugly early but there are positive signs. The more games we get into Reid, Hewett, Ginbey and Gross, the better we will look in the back end of the season, hopefully with Yeo back.

I think now that the footy shows are on every night on two channels they need a bigger volume of content to talk about. But often there are not enough interesting things for them to talk about to fill in the increased amount of airtime they have to fill in. So the Harley Reid rumours are something that is always there and that gets strong interest in Victoria that they can pull out of the bag to fill in 5 minutes of air time for them. And they can then crop the clip with a headline/title that will get clicks online and put it on Twitter. Even if it is all crap and pure speculation with no substance.

While we need games into these guys to find out what we have, we still need more guys on the list who can run through there.

We should have at least 3-4 mids(not counting wingers) in the wafl team on top of what we have in the squad.

It's true we simply don't know what we have, but definitely need more mids still.

Imo if we got 2 mids from our likely 3 first round picks plus sign a mature depth inside mid (like parfitt for example), then we are ok for mids.
I think this is more or less the plan anyway, the focus will be on our nga kids after that anyway

You can trade a RFA not sure you can trade an UFA
I've googled and can find nothing to say that clubs can't, it is just assumed that it won't happen. Also the Free agency period comes before the Trade so there is that complication. Nothing to stop the 2 clubs putting their heads together eg: in this case WB recontract him at the rate WCE have offered and then I'd think nothing to stop a straight trade with WCE taking over the contract.

Agree to disagree. I work off the simple fact that 50% of any draft haul doesn't make it. I believe the average AFL career is four years, a few in that list won't make it.

Hewett hasn't been able to get fit and play a full season. I hope we see the best of him and that he grows into his potential; at the moment, it is potential only. Gross, Hutchinson, and Hall need games, but Gross looks to be the one who could be special. Hamish Davis and Harvey Johnson will likely be role players for a few years, but they could easily not make it.

I will not mention Tim Kelly because he either signs on for peanuts or moves on.

IMO, Reid seems to be the one who will be that A grader. Hewett has the potential, and we have high hopes for Gross. Otherwise, we are in a tough spot. That's why I'm excited about this draft; Picks 1 and 2 can make a significant impact, plus NGA this year and next. I hate finishing last, but if we get another one or two players like Nick Daicos, JHF, and Rowell, etc.

I would be much more comfortable in our rebuild and enjoying the tailwinds as we cruise towards a premiership.

A ruckman isn't the priority for me. We need someone who splits the contest right now. In three/four years, I would target a star ruckman then, who can take this group to the next level.

Have him as one of four rucks we should consider, but he’s more making his name as a KPF as an overager. If we intend to draft him as an Archer/JWilliams/Livingstone type then probably not for us as we have that position sorted. If we intended to develop him as a pure ruck then he should be considered.
Who are the 4 rucks we should consider? I have Keogh and Crossley

If he leaves it's most likely to be chasing success & I'd say Hawks & Geelong are easy standouts looking at the ladder. Neither have the salary cap or draft picks to get him right now.

Geelong would be his main goal I imagine - country-ish & the club he supported as a kid.

IMO - he signs a contract extension, sees how WC's rebuild goes & seeks a trade to Geelong once free agency hits if we're still dogshite

Personally, I agree on the Mids and think we pick up the best ruckman we can in the MSD. Before we assume we are gonna trade for Cameron, lets wait and see what the rest of the season brings from Flynn. I think people forget that although he's 27, he has half as much game time as BW. As Flynn said in his presser yesterday, he's far from the finished product and if you look at the likes of Cameron (29) and Xerri (27), both have only come to prominence in the past couple of seasons. I was extremely encouraged by Flynn's performance and haven't discounted him becoming a major contributor for us, Below are some interesting career stats for comparison.. the Percentage of HO won and HO to advantage are interesting.
