Also appears Dougie Cochrane and Walker will not be in the open draft for next year (early projected top 2 picks). Food for thought to bring that 2026 pick into this draft if it’s for a Curtin ect.

Cal said IF Harley leaves, he expects the Cats are in front.

What the hell does that deal look like? Humphries? JhyeClark? Mitch Edwards? Their first round picks that will be in the 30s to 40s?

Love the show and pod but it’s getting more Vic centric every week.
Dougie Cochrane; Can someone describe what type of player he is against Dyson Sharp, Harley Reid?

I am not an avid draft watcher but cliff notes suggest they are all very similar.

Everyone one drools about Rowell this Rowell that and the closest comparison to Rowell this year is Sharp and people are turning there noses up. If Oscar goes and it’s 1/2 Freddy and Sharp would make me happier then when we come away with Harley Reid
I'll leave it to the experts for detailed comments but to my eye, Rowell looks much quicker/more explosive than Sharp. I think Rowell also looks a better kick from what I've seen.

Are any of these ruckman being floated for the MSD actually going to make any difference? They all seem like they are under sized or just extremely raw & will take time.

Flynn actually played a decent game on the weekend & id rather just trade for someone who can step right in & make an impact.

I think Keogh if you are going to take one in the MSD. I think if he doesn't make the grade as a ruckman, he has the potential to be more versatile than someone like Crossley

It’s hard to say where we will end up midfielder wise.
Hewett could be anything and that’s how I view him.Yes he May breakdown again and never fulfil his potential but I prefer to think the best not the worst.
HD may leave ( tho I doubt it )
Gross looks to be a ripper.
I have no doubts about Hutch. He just cracks in…hard!!
Correct me if I’m wrong ; and I may be; but wasn’t HJ recruited as a mid?
Looking ahead I certainly discount TK and Yeo !
I think Hall will be better in a good side as he can shovel the ball out to a winning midfield cutting down the amount of defensive running he needs to do.
This is the hand we have been currently dealt. We need to get games into them and keep them fit.
On potential I rather like what we are assembling! With more games comes hardened bodies.Getting pushed around in the guts will be a thing of the past

Just a hypothetical... assuming we finish last and have Pick 1, and Oscar goes as a Band 1 free agent giving us pick 2. On current standings wed have 1, 2, 12 (Hawks), 19, 30. Lets assume the impossible happened and The Bont decided to come to WC as a free agent..

OR..

We don't do something stupid like sign a 30yr old RFA, or even worse trade for one when we are clearly in the middle of a rebuild?

Take picks 1, 2, 12, 19, 30 and kickstart our rebuild before Tazzy comes in. The more young talent we can collect the better. Offload pick 48 for a future pick.

Warner in 2 years as a FA and whatever other moneyball additions we need to make along the way. Hopefully offloading fringe players like Bailey Williams, Cole, Petrucelle, Duggan or even Kelly. Do NOT give up draft capital as a rebuilding side.

Sheed interview during Essendon game said out for this year ....seems like playing on in 2026 or would like too .

Assuming we can turn Reid's head Warner signing for 2 years might be the best thing to happen to us. Saves us from ourself and puts us in a spot to target him again as a free agent

We are definitely inexperienced but not as badly off as most seem to think

My comment when I first heard about Warner coming home was I believed that this guy will turn out every bit as good ...
HD may leave ( tho I doubt it )
If he does, then so be it. Realistically it would be a loss, but it would provide us an opportunity to dominate this draft especially if he went to Essendon who, based on current ladder positions, have 5 & 8, I'd take those and Nic Martin as a trade.
Gross looks to be a ripper.
Yep!

Picked him after the Geelong belting last season. Elliot Yeo replacement, just needs to calm the farm a little and make sure he handles the ball cleanly.

We also have Grego, Davis and Dewar, the last 2 more outside players.

He only said that if he leaves, he expects the Cats to be front runner. Also, I think that was in relation to Geelong/Hawthorn.

He never said he actually does expect him to leave to begin with.

Cats don't have the assets to make a realistic play.

Also, he pretty much linked Harley to every Vic club he talked about.

Geelong and Port Power work on the "we don't have any good picks left so you have to take the chip packet(s)"

In terms of control, I would rather we trade Harley to a club of our choosing this year than to wait until 2026 when he is out of contract and nominates.

Unless he extends, I would be playing off Tigers and Bombers this off season. Tigers will have their own and Norf R1 picks and Bombers their own and Dees R1 pick. Both of these would be a strong start.

I cannot see a world in which Cats, Pies or Hawks have enough to make it work.

Most decent agents guide their players to clubs that can pay the asking price.

It's all hypothetical anyway but Bont isn't just any old 30yr old RFA. Firstly, he is a UFA and if you seriously think a 30 year old Bont for 3 or 4 years wouldn't make us better, then that surprises me??
BTW, 12 will most likely end up 15-20, with 19 and 30 to be 30+ and 40+ so I don't see much value there when it comes to top-end talent.

We can't do that.
Have the conversation. The good thing about a wooden spoon is the reality of first pick in the pre season draft.

I am fully aware we cannot trade a player without their approval. So get into his agent and let him know his boy Harley could be back in Victoria in 2026 if he is that keen to get home and refuses to extend

"Making us better" isn't necessarily what we're after if it comes at a cost, particularly long term cost via top end draft picks. We legit only just did that last year with Baker.

I'd take pick 2 over a 30-31yr old Bontempelli who has already won a flag and playing for nothing other than money for a couple seasons in WA.

You're on crack if you think we're rolling hIm out at 34-35 with all the extra travel he'd have to do. Even if we did, to what end? There's so many areas of this list that needs work it's pointless paying a premium to add an A grader to it right now. Oh yay, we finished 14th instead of 18th, that's huge, all our problems are solved.

Ditto Warner.

Just be patient and actually rebuild properly.

Crossley would help out with Simpsons hj’s franchises keeping busy and not much else. He tried at the bulldogs this year and was ruled not to be fit enough to run out an afl game….

Would be a complete waste of a pick to get him and he wouldn’t be better than Flynn .

Typical, the number 1 prospect in the mid season draft is a key forward. We really need another one of them.

We did manage to reinvent Maric and Hutchinson from forwards, so there is some hope.
