It doesn't matter. It has already happened. What's the point of constantly rehashing the past. It's up to you, but personally I'd rather focus on the future with a positive outlook. Your call.

Wasn't me that started the discussion bud.

The problem with bidding on players, and why most clubs avoid it is you may end up with a player that doesn't want to be here and asks for a trade JHF style within the first year or two.
It's especially a concern if we are still going to be bad for a few years.

Could you imagine we bid on Patterson, Uwland and they ask for a trade within year 1-2? The AFL would rightfully mock us into oblivion for bidding on a player that didn't want to be here.

On one hand academy players are no different to anyone else. If you are in the draft you are in the draft. How many of Harley Reid, Archer Reid, Jobe Shanahan, Campbell Chesser etc. wanted to come to WC?

On the other hand academy players aren't really in play, at least not top 5-10 rated players. If we bid on Uwland or Annable or whoever they aren't coming here, we're just upping the price by a few hundred points which doesn't mean that much of getting a top 5 rated player for later firsts and seconds.

If we bid on Uwland at pick 1 and Gold Coast say "no that's too much we are only prepared to pay pick 3 in points value minus 10%" then too bad so sad. If he does a JHF then Gold Coast can give us a bunch of picks instead of taking them to the AFL magic beans exchange on draft night.

Confirmed gossage reads bf
It’s hard to get in pre bigfooty talk because probably even in Walter’s underage campaign someone would’ve heard he’s an Eagles fan and the talk would’ve been just walk him to the PSD 4 year ago but the Goss tweet was pre recent Walter talk. Late June I think

There is talk over here regarding three Pies players (with WA links) that WC may be into.
What value for all of Darcy Cameron, Bobby Hill and Ed Allen?

Would hate to lose any, or all of them but in this day and age, if a player wants out, clubs find a way to facilitate it.
Who knows with our list manager.

Imo Bobby Hill and Allen would be more likely for Freo.

Cameron value you can see the last 502 pages for what his value would be. It ranges a lot.

I'm ambivalent on Cameron, but keen for a price that isn't too exy (2nd rounder at max), but the Pies supporters being upset he didn't do the job in a top 4 clash is very different from our hope he'd be an upgrade on Flynn/B Will.

For us it's like upgrading our clapped out 40 year old Datsun 180B to a 2022 model Merc. Sure it's not a 2025 model, but it's still a ****ton better than what we are driving round.
Agree. Would ve happy to get him but at the right price. Anything before 25 would be too much imo

No one's forcing you to continue it

No that's the beauty about freedom of speech and a footy board hey...I can talk about it without being harrassed by you to stop talking about it as long as I'm on topic which I am.

We give up Pick 2 so next year we play Waterman, Reid, Shanahan and Walter in the forward line?

We still have no ruck or mids to kick it to them, but yeah...............
We make Archer into something that's not a forward, play 3 very mobile and not huge KPFs, and make a midfielder into our 2nd ruck(P.Cripps).
Assuming the rules change so the unps throw it up quicker and we get the 5th bench spot we would have room for an extra mobile tall.

Why would this not work(Assuming we got Cripps)

Just wanted to get peoples thoughts on if we get pick 2 in the Allen compo, rather than splitting, they should be selecting players tied to clubs through father son or academy players.

Could match on Zeke Uwland from Gold Coast with them handing over 8, 11, 18.

And match on Dan Annable from Brisbane and have them hand over 17, 37 and whatever else they need to make up the points for that bid.

With our picks moving down to 2 and 4 and all the other picks moving back we would be ending up with picks 2, 4, 10, 13, 16, 19, 20, 39

And whatever else Brisbane need to match the bid.
Apologies if I’ve misinterpreted your suggestion.

If Brisbane match, they don’t hand us those picks. The spend them to satisfy the points price required to match. They disappear from the order.

For example if there was a matched bid on Annable at Pick 1, we’d just shuffle down a place from 1/2/Hawks pick/19 to 2/3/Hawks pick+1/20, we wouldn’t acquire the picks Brisbane used to pay up for him.

Possibly in the minority but I'm glad we kept Cripps for another year.

Desperately need some experience in the forward line (and everywhere else), we've got plenty to delist so he won't be keeping us from getting player's we're targeting, and nobody is even close to forcing him out either

Running with this example, we get Uwland, he opts out then we lose 12mths development in a top 5 pick and still have to draft an unknown quantity.
There's also nothing preventing GC from pulling a Richmond, using their high picks if they have any and saying "oh no, look all we have is a couple of 2nd rounders so it'll have to do."

Don't get me wrong, i'm all for bidding on high end talent and making clubs pay full price for them it's just an added risk for a developing team to take.

The mooted new ruck rules will suit Archer to a tee in the medium term. In the meantime a shift to CHB should be obvious when Waterman returns next year and also have him ruck in D50.

I don’t think Walter is going to leave GCS, almost certainly not this year. He does have fantastic defensive pressure for a man his size and we could run a setup similar to the Crows should he be open to a move in the future.

Plenty more water to go under the bridge with Cameron before trade week. I wouldn't be looking at an acquisition purely with the picks we currently have.

Our priority pick request being the main one. If we get gifted a pick we must trade then it's a no brainer to target whatever ruckman we possibly can.

Bailey and Jack Williams is another. If we find ourselves a realistic chance of landing Cameron, identifying a potential suitor for either of these players also makes sense given their opportunities will dry up.

Uwland is a poor example because distance has made Twomey's heart grow fonder, and he's not that good.

I know Patterson doesn't seem to be rated as highly by Gold Coast as some outside the club seem to do so, so he's one that might attract an unmatched bid.

Jack Williams would have zero trade potential and has had a very disappointing 2025. He's looked unfit and played terribly. Bailey is a known quantity, and I'd retain him.

cant say im a fan of the cripps extension.
probably be at the expense of someone like newton or chess, which id rather give another year too.
Plan would be to have him at a very reduced price and help bring up the standard of the Beagles.

He'll still be getting games in the seniors next year.

Other than the dollars, don't know why Cripps would be keen to go again. We'll still be getting belted each week, and the cliff has arrived. Can't imagine it's enjoyable at all.

Who would want a troubled Bobby Hill?

I just cannot get my head around a list strategy to bolster the reserves. If that’s what we’re doing we need to change the reserves system.

I love Crippa but his retention is mind blogging. 34 in April and hopefully Hewett, Sharp and Cumming rotating through the flanks.
