I just cannot get my head around a list strategy to bolster the reserves. If that’s what we’re doing we need to change the reserves system.

I love Crippa but his retention is mind blogging. 34 in April and hopefully Hewett, Sharp and Cumming rotating through the flanks.
Who starts in the forward line next year? Who comes in when players get injured?

Not totally against Cripps getting an extension but I’d prefer if we were telling him thanks for your service and parting ways

It looks like a one year too many extension - he’s always been a good trainer and I don’t think anyone could say he doesn’t put in a proper shift on game days but for a small forward who never had express pace or elite agility he’s getting noticeably slower. That isn’t going to improve

Feel like the club is concerned about our list profile continuing to get younger as senior players move on - if, as I suspect, all of Allen, Hunt, Petruccelle and Jamieson depart at the end of the season we’ll be left with just 17 players entering 2026 at the age of 23 or over (and that includes Hutchinson. Brock and McCarthy who’ve been at the club for 12 months or less)

Obviously that might change if/when we trade some established players in

The opportunity cost of retaining Cripps won’t be known until after the trade/draft when we see who we might’ve been able to retain/draft as an alternative to fill that spot

Ideally, and I say this with no disrespect intended to Cripps, he plays a significant number of games in the WAFL as a mentor to the young kids there - it would improve the Beagles and also mean our other small/medium forwards have stepped up to earn a spot in front of him. Something that I’d like to have seen this year but didn’t

Also, how can we now delist Chesser or Bazzo and say their spot was taken by 34yo Cripps with a straight face?

Jack Williams would have zero trade potential and has had a very disappointing 2025. He's looked unfit and played terribly. Bailey is a known quantity, and I'd retain him.

The known quantity with Bailey is decisively average though. Hardly AFL standard, so why keep him around? It's been 7 years and he still hasn't locked a spot down in the worst team of all time. He'd have a decent highlights package though and might appeal to another club who think they can get a bit more from him.

Until the Collingwood game Jilliams was showing a lot, I disagree that he'd have nobody interested. Can clunk a mark, kick straight, chop out ruck, and he's clearly still covered in puppy fat.

Can't excuse his terrible last month of footy though, at either level. Not sure what on earth has happened there.

It wouldn't surprise me if he wanted to get extended and the club told him he's not a priority right now and he's had a sook about it.

The coach has thrown out the challenge to him by playing the 2 rookies Reid and Shanahan in front of him .JWilliams hasn’t responded yet maybe he’s not suited to the wet conditions Or just out of form ..

I'm torn on BBW. And JWill.

I think both Williams are good enough to be third tall forwards/second rucks. But I'm not convinced either can be more than that. BBW has battled manfully as a first ruck the last couple of years and as a first/second/first ruck this year but his ceiling appears to be what it is. He was 6th in the comp for hitouts in 2023 but it's hard to make a case he was better than any of the top 20. Maybe 35 year old Goldy, last season Lycett or somehow played 20 games in his last season Andrew Phillips. Maybe the game moving back towards ruckmen running and jumping at the ball will help his game, but there are star rucks that change their teams (Gawn, Xerri etc) and good rucks that do their job (Meek, Witts etc) and then BBW is in the next rung. To the eye he does some really good things. And some not so much. With Flynn in the side it feels like we are are trying to do a NN/Cox or even Darcy/Jackson combo but it's rotating out of the ruck who is least worst in a given game.

JWill takes marks and kicks goals. But he does look like a slightly pudgy and slow Cam Green. He's second for marks inside 50 and fourth for goals and has only played 13 out of 20 games. He's about on par with Shanahan for relevant stats but Shanahan just looks like he has a much higher ceiling. JWill is miles ahead of Archer Reid right now. Reid has 17 marks inside 50 and has kicked 5 goals. He's raw but the coach loves him. An equivalent established player for JWill would be Hayden McLean. He's played just shy of 100 games and the last 3 seasons he's kicked 20+ goals and been second ruck. Sydney's problem isn't McLean, it's McDonald not being available and Amartey not being reliable. They will be top 4 again next year if they have McDonald and McKay/Curnow forward.

We need to settle on Waterman/Allen or if Allen goes Waterman/Shanahan or whatever the preferred FF/CHF combo is then work around that. The issue is we can't reliably pick BBW or Flynn to ruck 80% of game time and break even.

Pick 2 for Walters, Davies & pick 8 would be where I would start.

2, hawks first and hawks second for Walter, Davies, Moyle and pick 8. Keep a pick to match a bid on whichever of Evans or Williams gets a bid and just draft the best 2 available mids.

Bringing a ready to go mid, a huge upgrade on our ruck, a bash and crash full forward, 2 top 10 draft mids, another mid who I find heavily underrated in Evans, a highly skilled but sometimes goes missing HFF in Williams and Banfield as a hard running two way winger who is great overhead and has good aggression as well.

Trade, draft sorted.

Archer Williams becomes a KPD.

So in essence 4 mids, a top 3 pick KPF, a huge ruck upgrade, a classy HFF and a hard running and more skilled winger in Banfield than Davis is.

Shit if they want to ready go players and Ryan is amenable he can go to get the trade over the line.

I'd be willing to bet that Bailey Williams is as good a ruckman in 3 years time as Cameron is now.

Wat.

He just got absolutely annihilated on the weekend by his direct opponent, and not for the first time either.

Both Bailey and Flynn are just as bad as each other as ruckman. They both enjoy giving career best games to their opposition. Cameron has never been that bad.

You want to keep him for another 3 years, on top of the 7 we've seen so far?

As much as he's had a tough run he just doesn't look up to it to me. I just don't see a defence functioning with Edwards, Ginbey and Bazzo. Ginbey is better defensively and provides more dash.

Whether it's with WCE or not I'd be willing to take that bet.

I have high hopes on him but i tend to agree but im happy to see if he can make it for a year or 2 and we commit to playing Archer down back with Bazzo as the backup.

I think BW is a better player than Flynn.

He's quicker, a better forward, better defensively and the rule changes will help him.

Flynn is a pretty good mark around the ground but slow AF. His tap work is a bees dick better but not good enough for a number 1.
