  • Tylar Young (Richmond) arrived at West Coast in exchange for Pick 38.
  • Deven Robertson (Brisbane) has agreed to join West Coast and will be signed on to the rookie list after being delisted by Brisbane
Out:
  • Oscar Allen joins Brisbane as a FA - West Coast receive Pick 2 as compensation
  • Liam Ryan and a 2027 R3 pick has been traded to St Kilda for a 2026 R2 pick
  • Campbell Chesser has been traded to Carlton for Pick 41

2025 Draft Order

Current Draft Picks:
Round 1: 1, 2, 13
Round 2: 34, 41
Round 3: 53, 58 (These picks are in excess of available list spots so will be forfeited if we don’t consolidate our 2025 picks up the order or trade some for future picks)

List Spots Available (39 of 48):
• Main list (33 of 38) - 5* (in: Starcevich, Young out: Allen, Ryan, Chesser, Hunt, Petruccelle, Jamieson)
• Cat A rookie list (5 of 8) - 3* (in: Robertson (pending), out: Rawlinson)
• Cat B rookie list (1 of 2) - 2 (out: Livingstone)

* Based on Dewar being upgraded after the maximum 3 years on the rookie list. Hutchinson may also have been upgraded but this isn’t confirmed - if it is we will have 4 main and 4 rookie list spots open

* Matthew Clarke has stated we have 5 main list spots

Matt Clarke wraps up the trade period - 6PR

It's a good point. It really serves no meaningful function any more, other than these mechanics and splitting up the draft. The Cat B's have effectively become the rookie list and even then there is so few limitations once someone is on that list - at least there is a different qualification criteria and it is giving players an opportunity who otherwise may not get it.
I believe the first $100k of rookie listed players contracts doesn't count towards the cap so there is a distinction (plus one year contracts).

It allows teams (who have no salary cap room) an extra 4-6 spots which is used to give an opportunity in the AFL system to a young guy who wouldn't otherwise get it.

I think that's something the AFL is keen on.

For a lot of teams it's not used exclusively in that way but that's why it's there.

I would rather Mcvee than starcevich personally. Once again we've paid more than we should.
I guess that is a byproduct of winning 8 games over the last 3 seasons. We have to take our medicine to attract players.

I fully expect (hope) we get back to our winning culture in the next year or two, and then we can expect to pay less for attracting players.

If the Lions were threatening band 2 compo for Oscar and requesting a pick for Dev BUT will now provide Band 1 compo and release Dev as DFA then I can live with the trade.

I still believe the Band 2 threat was an empty one and I dont believe Matt Clarke delivered value in the trade result but simply protected it.

Given what dockers gave for McVee id rather Starcevich for the same capital.

OMG.

What do you think Starcevich actually cost?

It WAS less than what the Dockers are paying for McVee.

I don't think Dev will be delisted, he'll want certainty that he will get to a club (so will go to Dogs if not us). We'll probably trade him for some kind of late pick swap that preserves points for everyone.

We can, and probably already have, give Robertson a guarantee we’ll contract him as a SSP signing post draft. He just has to keep his name out of the draft

GWS are doing the same with Laverde

So deal done with starcevich.

Still nothing about Oscar....what's the odds he stays with us?

If it's any consolation to those melting... the Freo board is melting more.
23 for mcvee was pretty steep for what he has produced so far in his career with glimpses of his full potential thought 33 could have been done if freo held firm .

suppose it is up to freo to get the best out of him and they do have some average defenders that he will replace in the 22

Yes. He coughed up #3 last year. NOT a throwaway line. Have you seen me anywhere complaining about yesterday's trade. Well stfu, then.
While not complaining you still complain.

It's this sort of negativity that I find frustrating - maybe it's just me..

With the Bombers showing interest in trading up, could we swap 2 for Tigers 3 and Young (maybe some steak knives in amongst it?) to ensure they get their man and don't risk Bombers jumping them?

And would that then unlock not having to use a pick between 30 and 50 on Young which loads up our points to swap with GC?

Can’t wait for Cals series of tweets later.

“Compo decision has been made by the AFL”

10min later

“Can confirm eagles will be getting a pick for Allen”

30min later

“The number begins with a 2”

10min later

“I expect it could be in the 20s”

15min later

“Can confirm it’s pick 2”
