2025 Draft Order

Current Draft Picks:
Round 1: 1, 2, 13
Round 2: 34, 41
Round 3: 53, 58 (These picks are in excess of available list spots so will be forfeited if we don’t consolidate our 2025 picks up the order or trade some for future picks)

List Spots Available (39 of 48):
• Main list (33 of 38) - 5* (in: Starcevich, Young out: Allen, Ryan, Chesser, Hunt, Petruccelle, Jamieson)
• Cat A rookie list (5 of 8) - 3* (in: Robertson (pending), out: Rawlinson)
• Cat B rookie list (1 of 2) - 2 (out: Livingstone)

* Based on Dewar being upgraded after the maximum 3 years on the rookie list. Hutchinson may also have been upgraded but this isn’t confirmed - if it is we will have 4 main and 4 rookie list spots open

* Matthew Clarke has stated we have 5 main list spots

Matt Clarke wraps up the trade period - 6PR

I’m all for Steele and would be a nice fit for us but I do think you can only have one of that type in the midfield.

Modern footy demands mids who can run and spread. McCarthy I think is the only one we have on our list atm who can do that at potentially elite level. Duursma might become that player and so to Robey.

Ryan would have more value than steele .
Steele getting pushed and 1 dimensional

Ryan was an AA and can play small forward , HFF and centre bounces
Saying Ryan can play at centre bounces is like saying Steele can play full back and ruck… yeah he could, just not any good at it although with our ruckman he couldn’t be worse

I'm pretty sure we have a better clearance win rate when ryan is at the bounce .

He has elite ground ball and disposal out of a contest

Do we even have enough list spots to pursue Steele with Young, Robertson and Starcevich already coming in?

I realise how back to front that statement is.

I think it was suggested we could utilise those extra rookie list spots on Barnett and possibly Harvey Johnston as well to free up some room.

If anyone else picks them up, then so be it and we get the rookie list spots anyway

Ryan does not have more value than Steele

Agreed, but he’d be the best in that mold we could reasonably acquire and it’s the perfect foil to Harley getting all the attention.

Once Allen, Chesser, Ryan leave we’ll have seven spots.

Starc, Dev, Young in takes us down to four.

Steele three, plus three for draft picks.

A lot hinges on if we can find a way to get Dev over as a rookie (or maybe find a way to rookie Cripps?).

All of this is moot if Steele doesn’t want to move to WA for the twilight of his career anyway, but if he did we’d find a way to make it work surely.

Another WCE NGA to keep an eye on is Subiaco's speedster Kyan Perera. (2026 draft)

Possibly the fastest player in WAFL colts right now.

He has only just burst on to the Colts scene so not many have cottoned on to him yet.

He's also very good at cricket however, so he has a choice to make.

Not surprising when you consider that his dad Suresh Perera played international cricket for Sri Lanka before migrating here.

I hope we send this kid 2 emails at least, so he gets in our NGA squad.

Ideally we’re recruiting Robertson onto the rookie list which would require Brisbane to delist him so we can sign him via the SSP

We would also need to shift Cripps and/or Barnett to the rookie list

Brisbane haven't offered him a contract

If West Coast aren't in the running to get this bloke then I'll never take what they say seriously in interviews ever again. All I heard from them all year is say 'We need a mature body or two to put with Harley in the middle' Well, there one is, Liam Ryan wants to go to the Saints, do a player swap, swap whatever picks around that you need and get something done.

If they don't get in the running for this after hearing their 'wants and needs' all year then they can go get stuffed.
I really hope this morning isnt the first time West coast have spoken to the saints about Ryan for Steele. I've been wanting this swap ever since Ryan said he wanted to go.

With Chesser, Allan, Ryan and possibly Cripps on the way out it should be fine?

Edit: And Bock and Gunston. Sheesh been answered 3 times in the time it took me to reply.

Probably the big question is whether an average to good Victorian team would have interest in trading for Steele; if so then we probably don't have much of a chance. Hawthorn has been gunning for mids but Merrett seems to be their main target. Would Essendon have interest to back-fill from losing Merrett? Who knows, lots of moving parts.

Adelaide might also have interest after missing on Petracca.

There are some very good (albeit aging) premium mids available like Petracca, Oliver, Merrett, and Steele so it would be disappointing if we didn't manage to land one of them given the widely-stated desire to provide Harley with more support and protection next year.

I’d go and have a look at the stats and come back. I’ve posted them before and he is next to useless

I reckon with a bit of effort and clever use of the search function, I could find examples of you shitting on every player on our list.

There’s truly no one you like.

He's already in your NGA squad.

But as another poster said, he may well choose cricket.

Let's see how he goes in colts next season.
Fair enough. I have no faith in whoever is in charge of our NGA selections. Lost Erasmus because he didnt get our one email. Then the one the other day to Freo, I forget his name but he wasnt even in our zone.
