So replace JK with a resting ruckman and our forward line will operate better? That would mean 3 talls yes?

When are people going to get it, our forward line looks crap because the game plan is terrible. Move the ball with system and much quicker and our forward line is fine.
The forwards just need to set up a little better but most important is that our midfield improves by 25% and our ground ball movement improves by 75%. Our forwards can't even separate how slow the ball moves.

The WCE problem is from Full back to half forward, we have no issue inside 50. We just can't get it in there enough and quick enough to hurt any teams.

Agree that main problem scoring is related to ball movement more than our forward line.

However, notwithstanding that, playing 3 tall forwards and 2 rucks is still an issue - we either play effectively a man down (and that impacts how much rest our smaller and mids get compared to their opponents) or have to switch Allen back and forward to make sure we only have 3 tall forwards at a time which can’t be good for cohesion between our backs or our forwards.

Agree with this, don't agree with we have tall problem JK retire.
I have put a solution forward which is JD can be the back up ruckman.
The other solution is get NN bloody fit enough to ruck for 80% game time.

The option of saying that is to hard for Nic and Oscar and JD doesn't want to play ruck so lets just tell our best forward to retire so these guys are happy.

It's only for 20% of the time and we lose many centre clearances when Nic wins the knock. Nic needs to get much much fitter so a major second ruck is not required.
Its an insane idea. He might get away with bodying a ruck around the ground for a contest or two, but would get smashed in the center and if tried to play there for extended periods.

Every proper ruckman would be looking like Nic Nat against him. Not only is he short, he's got T Rex arms.

I haven’t seen enough of Johnson to know if he will make it or not, but I see most seem to think he has the skill set to make it just needs to bulk up his frame. Is that right?

Is he too small to be given a crack? I mean Hawks have Will Day who is about as scrawny as they come and he has slotted into their team seamlessly albeit cut down by an ankle most of this year. Highly skilled player and I don’t think Johnson is up to that level from the limited minutes I’ve seen of him but would’ve thought it’d be worth a shot with our lack of pace coming out of defence. Hope to hell he isn’t delisted come seasons end
From watching Johnson at wafl level this year I can say its his defensive side to his game which needs improvement. Offensively he is a weapon with his kicking and leg speed . His radar can be off but if we are going to transition to more run and carry out of the backline we keep him .

He could be a very good defender of quick agile smalls for us .

My opinion is to keep him for another year or two so he can transition post hurn our designated kicker and sheppard our best defender of smalls

Then we need to play another ruckman or Nic needs to get fit.

The same with Shuey. He’s gone from a genuine goalkicking midfielder to never contributing. Like I said with Rotham before - wasted assets.

Wonder if this is a midfield structure or forward structure issue?

Edit: Shuey has 1 goal in the last two seasons combined (19 games). That’s disgusting.
Has to be a structural issue. Kelly went from averaging more than a goal a game to not scoring at all. The coaches/system aren’t exploiting the natural attacking qualities from our players.

Our current draft hands stands as follows: 10, 29, 34, 50

Assuming Duggan & Brander leave, what are they worth? Lets do some predicting and say Duggo to Richmond (hard nut to replace Houli) and Brander to St Kilda. So picks 25 & 43 respectively (2nd & 3rd rounders, which I feel is the boards consensus of their trade value).

Picks 10, 25, 29, 34, 43 & 50 is a bit of a meh draft hand, end up drafting a bunch of Ainsworths and Petrucelli's. But huge potential to package the draft picks to someone who needs points.

The F/S or academy prospects due in the first round appear to be Pies (Daicos), Bulldogs (Darcy), Dees (Andrew), Freo (Motlop) & GWS (Fahey).

Chasing Collingwood's 2022 1st round pick might be a good plan. Between them being shit and us following suite, we could end up with two very early draft picks next year.

And it's right across the ground.

How much better has Cole looked recently when we've been in attack mode - playing on and also running past for link-up handballs. He's not got the pace of a Saad or Houli but plays that role well

Rotham - so, so dodgy kicking backwards, but a neat kick when attacking (makes no sense, but it is how it is).

Obviously the mids not kicking goals as you've touched on. (I do think this is a bit of a fitness issue also though, as we just don't get mids to the drop of the ball in our forward half as much as other teams do)

I would love to see the shackles off this weekend. Even with the outs, and our terrible form, we are a chance if we play all-out attack (we are also a chance to give up a massive score - but it is better to try something than go for the same old same old and lose again). Dogs, Melbourne and Brisbane are all pretty much straight out attack sides (obviously they defend strongly also - but when they have the ball, fast forward movement is their goal). I know that is too simple - but as a basis it has merit to start now and build something for next year (and if we sneak into the finals by some miracle, double down and try to take scalps).

McGoVern will be out til mid season and Shuey first month or so

If you want a guaranteed bet this week Oscar Allen to go goalless as he will play CHB
With both Barrass and HEdwards available?
He might rotate through but surely if Kennedy is out, Allen will be up forward?
