Gary Buckenara's dreaming.

I rate Witherden really highly and despite falling out of favour this year, he’d be on my list of untouchables at the Lions. He’s an elite kick off halfback and given the way West Coast play, he’d fit right in. He has two years to run on his contract, so if the Eagles are to get him in a trade they’ll need to pay up. I’d have no hesitation offering next year’s first-round pick but I think the Lions would want more.

It gets weirder.... 'I’d have no hesitation offering next year’s first-round pick but I think the Lions would want more. Jarrod Cameron is an exciting young player and an untouchable in my book at the Eagles, but if they could trade Cameron and their first pick next year to get Witherden, given they just brought in another small forward in Zac Langdon from GWS, then I’d do the deal.'

Basically Lions fanfiction.

Looks like a busy day is in store tomorrow going by what I have seen tonight.

Witherden is done, price is apparently pick 60 and future 4th rounder - only holdup is Hickey needs to be offloaded first before it can go through, which itself is reliant upon Aliir going to Port Adelaide.

Pick 60 is then going from Brisbane to Geelong for Cockatoo, and Geelong will then try and use it to get Higgins from North.

Hickey trade is the hold-up. Aliir expected to go for pick 29 with possibly Lienert going to Swans. Sydney won't trade out picks this year as they need the points for Campbell and Gulden. As such, picks 25 and 29 are completely off the table. Current offer seems to be pick 62 and future 3rd rounder, with Eagles pressing for more. Sydney open to possibly including players rather than picks and part-paying their contract next year if both clubs have enough space. Haven't heard any indication of which players are potentially being offered up (fingers crossed it is Hewitt going by today's media) but to be honest I would be surprised that we would be able to fit anyone else in along with Witherden.

So looking likely Witherden traded in; Hickey out; with picks 34, 62 and 91 in hand by this time tomorrow.

Also seems the club is trying to do a pick swap to climb up the draft in exchange for future picks with Gold Coast and Melbourne being mentioned. A lot of unknowns at the moment due to Treloar and Dunkley situations - Essendon being a major bottleneck for a lot of activity.

So the Swans will refuse to trade picks in the 20s for later picks that provide to same or greater points?

60 will not get Cockatoo.

Hewitt would cost picks we may not want to trade. If we needed to free up cap space then we dont re-sign Hutchings or Ah chee, or Ainsworth plus wedrop Hickey's $$, add another year and spread out the salary.

In my opinion we don't hold any picks currently that we shouldn't want to trade for Hewett. He's a really good player, can play forward and midfield at a high level - is tough, defensive and also skillful.

Obviously salary cap will be a massive barrier for us - but if the opportunity is there then we should seriously explore it.

The challenge being how do we get both Hewett and Witherden in, without giving up Hickey, 34 and our future 2nd - although even then it seems like a decent deal (sure, trading out of the early parts of the draft - but we would bring in a 22yo, a 24yo (Langdon) and a 25yo (Hewett).

Forget Hickey and Witherden.

Our main focus now should be nabbing Brandon Matera before someone else gets him and wins the flag.

I have fingers crossed we make a bold move with pick swaps.

Use a future 2nd to land another 2nd this year or even one of the Lions late 1sts.

Hickey gets us later picks or is a swap for Witherden.

We bundle them all up to get the Dogs 1st. Use that on the best Vic mid available. Phillips?

Then next year should Cripps be available we have a highly rated Vic mid plus our 2021 1st. No Cripps then we keep our mid and use our 1st.

Who the hell is Hewett? What does he do?

Seriously, I’ve only just got my head around Zac Langdon existing..
Obviously, you’re not a golfer

Matera to the midfield

Against the grain here but Rookie list Matera and I’d do it.
same here I’ve got no real bias against Wce listing Matera on the cheap $$ ..He can play at the level and kicked 30 goals in 2019 ..
Agree. It improves our bottom 6 if we get injuries, and that's how you win flags.

Why?
Why on earth would you do that?

He'll be 29 at the start on next year, has lost all pace, is injury prone, was only ever a bottom of the 22/fringe at two clubs down the bottom of the ladder, and if we ever needed to play him it would be because we had so many injuries we were playing guys from the WAFL reserves team. And if we were doing that we'd be better off getting games into any under 20 player as the season would be gone anyway.
Not just a list clogger, a useless Fremantle discard list clogger just there for one last pay day. Even as a rookie he'd be overpaid.

Even if all the other deals went through, this one would single handedly turn a great trade period (assuming the other deals etc.) into a decidedly average one.

If North are interested let them have him. Noting that he would actually be a downgrade from any of the 11 players they discarded.

Hewett is quality. He’d be a solid choice and add legit depth to the middle, but I strongly doubt he’s coming.

If we’re struggling to fit in Witherden, we can’t also fit in Hewett and get both of them to move to the other side of the country.
