Update on Brander, which is that there’s no real Brander story.

Good to hear.

Great pick up by Nathan who brought attention to the sacrificial role he had been playing as a defensive winger.

Here is the kicker in the article:

“The frustration for Jarrod Brander is he’s been used as a defensive wingman. He’s done a good job in the club’s eyes but it’s a tough position to play, you can end up with six or seven possessions and people don’t realise you’ve done your role."

What the article didn't say was there was a meeting between Brander's management and the club whether he should stay at the club or not. Despite the views of some, West Coast still rate him extremely highly and want him to stay beyond 2021.

A commitment to train him as a KPP was what saw him stay at the club this trade period, and the club and Brander will work through whether he leaves or not at the end of next year.

At Least he will have some exposed form as a KPP next year, and if he chooses to leave for more opportunity, that might increase his value in a trade.

Personally I think Brander moving to the backline is the best thing for him, and it won't be too long before he is knocking on the door to get in to the B22 as a third tall.

Agreed.

Would be pretty dirty if I were the Crows. Clearly HQ didn't want them to have picks 1 & 2.

It's hard to believe that a multi-billion dollar entity is also never held to account for operating in such a shameless and unprofessional manner either.
Another outcome/decision by the AFL that reeks of manipulation to help one team but not another.
You could nearly call it corru.......... you can guess the rest.

It certainly looks like we got the 'lesser brother' again. In this case the lesser than the lesser brother.

We seem to make a bit of a habit of it when it comes to family selections...

Ah Chee the lesser,
Selwood the lesser, followed by,
Selwood the even lesser,
Cameron the lessor,
Cripps the lessor (cousin in this case).

Ainsworth?

Harsh on Adam and Scott. One's a premiership player, the other a Club Champion, and neither is Troy.

Sensible and very logical call by the club. Pretty excited to see how he goes in a position he is actually built for and fills a hole on the list.

Unfortunately for brander is there is a Log jam in defence also .
Edwards has shown more as a key defender than brander . Brander does have that pace to go on the lead with anybody but edward body work 1 on 1 is better .

Rotham has also shown he is valuable as a third tall with his rebound and kicking abilities.

I'm glad brander is up for the fight . The 3 of them will be in hot competition over the summer which is very good for all their development
I watched a few WAFL games in 2019 and not sure I agree that was better as a KPD. From memory Harry missed a big chunk of the season with injury. I see Brander more as the CHB role that picks up the KPF who plays up the ground while Harry is more the lock down role.

Thought his first half of the season was amazing, especially for a draftee taken in the rookie draft. Then he got injured and when he came back Petrie was playing and taking more responsibility.

A 3 week holiday for this (thanks ep2018 )

It's good to see that the Brander debate is still alive and well (as is the VICBias thread for that matter).
Well done on flying the flag.

Having lived in Melbourne for 100 years, I have clear memories of both the Smith Family and the Norf supporter base. I hate getting old, I realise I continue to repeat myself.

Completely agree. There's no coincidence on why Nic Nat, Gaff and Sheppard polled top 3 in the John Worsfold medal.

Unfortunately the difference between us and Richmond is that Richmond are hungry to win multiple flags whereas our mindset excluding Nic Nat, Gaff and Shep is "We've won a flag once, we don't need to do it again as we've been there done that." Definitely not helped that we had no Yeo for the back end of the season and our small forwards except Ryan and Cripps are badly out of form.

It is areal character issue at the eagles, they are paid to never get a day off. They consistently don’t provide their ultimate effort.

Pick 2 for Cerra allowing Freo to get McDonald is actually a decent trade PROVIDED Adelaide retain pick 1 and take Thilthorpe. I could see it going **** up if Adelaide sell pick 1 and go back 2 or 3 places. Given Dons need for a KPF and they may have picks 6/7/8, who knows what will happen. Hawks need a KPF as well.

Dangerous poker stakes with the top 5 picks this year

Norf supporters were talking about Simmo coaching North now that Rhys is no longer there

Well done on flying the flag.

Actually, it was a West Coast supporter that first mentioned Simpson and you didn’t get a 3 week suspension for that post, it was a sustained series of posts where you were being a dick in a thread in which Mods had specifically warned against trolling.

You should learn from dkalphy ‘s forays to the Geelong board if you want to fly the flag properly 🤣

While the suggested trade itself is badly stacked Norths way, what it does do is highlight the Crumbles sorry plight as far as young KPF go.

Taberner and Lobb are both 28 next year and injury prone, other than the pair of them, the only young "ish" KPF that they have on their list is Cox who will be 23 next year and he has been played in defence because Pearce, Logue and to a lesser extent Hambling are also injury prone.

Fremantle are going to face a crucial shortage of KPF / KPP going forward.

The point Rendell raises is valid because as far as young KPF, just who the hell are the likes of Brayshaw, Cerra and Serong going to kick the ball to in two / three years.

Fremantle's recruiters have ignored the restocking of KPF for successive years now, as they have been obsessed with midfielders... midfielders .... midfielders.

Bit like us in reverse with talls.

When your drafting strategy is not balanced in all positions , you then need to trade in players to fill positions of need and thats when Clubs, tend to have to pay overs to make it happen.

Given that tall's take longer to develop than smalls, Fremantle's timing of replenishing tall's via the draft, is now badly out of whack.

Harry Edwards was an absolute steal. One we'll be talking about in a decade from now I'm sure. McGovern 2.0

Freo love to pass over good tall talent for midfielders. Would be ironic to now sell the mids to buy a pick that could land them a tall.

Who's the last tall they took with a top pick? Logue?
Logue was being talked about as a possible midfielder in his draft year because of his massive tank (he was a top end rower at Guildford)
