In this age of Trumpism where we are meant to enjoy our political opponents discomfort, this is just the cherry on top of a glorious week.

One could argue that moves like this are "all cherry and no sundae", but I get your point.

Change name - tick. Indigenous consultation and first nations basis for new name? - About as relevant as me saying I should have a say in the name of the next royal baby, and that it should be reflective of my (non Anglo/Celtic/Germanic) ethnic background.

MC Bad Genius

Do they still own the trademark coon though?
Interesting question. As an aside, I strongly disagree with your signature, but I guess that's only tangentially related to the thread, so I won't comment any further.

I'm glad the name has changed and I'd hope that all the people that kicked up a stink about the name changing can move on.

So now it is called CHEER cheese.

Sounds weird, we'll get used to it.

One person isn't happy with the new name and how it was chosen though:

Is he for real?
That one person clearly has mental issues to care so much about it. Its friggen cheese. He should seek help.

Given Cheese is yellow, my wife who is Asian is extremely disappointed she wasn't consulted

That guy said he'd shut up years ago if they proved Edward Coon existed

So he should have kept quiet years ago, instead he keeps advertising himself.

This is the problem with these campaigners, you give in to one and they just move on to something else.

Stephen Hagan is nothing short of a self-interested fraud.

Bega just pissing themselves at the trough of cash heading their way without them lifting a finger.

Who are your political opponents? What an odd thing to say.

“Political opponents“ people you argue with publicly but privately support their right transfer the people’s wealth to their donors and to murder Yemenites.

I don't even the like the cheese, it sucks.

Poor old Mr Coon though, worked hard establishing an iconic well known brand only to have someone get offended that's what his name is and people buckle to the vocal minority. There goes his legacy.

He didn't establish the brand

A company named it after him because the processed they used was developed by him.

He's no guru in the cheese industry either fwiw (doubt he's even remembered in America)

What came first? The cheese or the slur?

1949: Kraft Foods trademark Coon name

1931: Kraft Walker Cheese start selling Red Coon cheese

1926: EW Coon patented his cheese ripening process

1834: first use of coon as a racial slur in the minstrel song “Ole Zip Coon he is a larned skoler”

1820's: coon first recorded use, meaning a sly person
