McLean is the best, then Cooney. But Cooney may overtake him because of size and speed.

Neither Ray or Sylvia have shown much. I can't split them at this stage

Nathan Jones is the third best of the mentioned players, I've never seen Higgins play.

For consistency Mclean has the edge but Cooney is the one who can win a premiership off his own boot. Ray needs to work on his skills but has a bigger upside than Sylvia. Can't comment on Jones to much but Higgins will be a Scott West with superior skills
Mcleans already won a finals match off his own boot with a inspiring second half of football, so has proven he is more than capable in finals.
Havent seen much of Higgins but Jones is the second coming of Mclean. Showed a bit last year, but started this year so dominant. Has gotten himself super fit, and become more ruthless. If Col can get himself right hed become a very good player, has shown glimpses, and is alot more physical than Ray, but both have been dissapointing.
Mclean>Cooney>Jones>Higgins>Ray,Sylvia

To build a team around, simply Cooney, Ray & Higgins.

Cooney and McLean are about level for me, taking into account room for improvement.

Ray is a little bit better than Sylvia.

Higgins is going to be a dead set star. Jones is a good player to, but not in the Higgins class.

McLean > Cooney (just)

Jones < Higgins

Sylvia <<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<< Ray

Western pull this one out on the back of how bad Sylvia is.

Why? what has Ray done? Since you have not seen much of either I'm not sure how you can be so sure
I actually have, I've watched both these players develop but Ray has had a very good 2006 season, something that Sylvia just didn't have, and so at this moment Ray is clearly better.

Sylvia was very patchy last season, would have one great game but the others would be average (remember last year when he played the dons, looked very average) and overall didn't set the world on fire. Ray by comparison was very solid and even his average games were still very good. He had a great game against the eagles IIRC where he had 20 odd touches and 10 marks, and was damaging against Collingwood.

Very good idea for a poll :thumbsu:

A couple of points:

1. Sylvia is not as bad as everyone makes him out to be, especially when comparing him against Ray.

Ray has more disposals, which is true but Sylvia has:
Kicks more goals
Taken more contested marks (and marks in general)
Tackles more
Has more 1st possessions
More clearances
More contested possessions
More 1%'s
and makes less errors.
(I'm fairly cetain that he's also had more injuries as well)
In reality Sylvia is clearly the better inside midfielder, Ray the better outsider, but the point is it's alot closer than most have suggested.
Equal, leaning to Ray in front by a whisker

2. Cooney and McLean are both guns, Cooney has the class, McLean will be our general on the field for years to come.
Cooney was better in his first couple of years but McLean came back strongly last year.
Equal

3. Higgins and Jones. Can I have them both?
Jones is a very good inside midfielder who can run all day and I'd have Higgins any day of the week. Jones easily had the best first year but I'm sure Higgins will catch up quickly.
Jones.

Overall, Melbourne by a pimple on the end of a bee's *****

Because Sylvia has yet to show much of anything at AFL level, whereas Ray has at least shown the ability to be damaging in an outside midfield role.
That's just completely wrong, don't get sucked into bigfooty hysteria, I really thought you were more intelligent than that.

Sylvia has been ruined by severe OP.

History tells us it would be folly to write him off at only 21.

Travis Johnstone never really looked a really consistent performer til 2002, five seasons after he was drafted.

Sylvia has all the tools to be a great player:
* Excellent speed
* Strong physique
* Good skills
* Good footy brain
* Hardness at the ball
* Great tackling

It's just a matter of if he can get his body right.
