The voting system is different though at clubs v the Brownlow. There would be discrepancies between the two awards

Doesn't matter though. The Copeland is defined as the club's best and fairest. So at the end of the day, given Nick wasn't suspended, he wasn't judged as the club's best player.

DC had a great year.

It's just unfortunate that over 3 seasons Nick Daicos could've had 3 Brownlows + 3 Copeland yet has nothing. His award recognition thus far does not remotely come close to reflecting his career.

* Edit - forgot he won last year

Brownlow votes are a 3-2-1, club votes can be a 6-5-4-3-2-1 or a certain number of votes given across lines.
The fact that players get over 300 votes in a club best and fairest lends itself to discrepancies. How many Brownlow votes did the other players on our leaderboard get?

Nothing? I don’t know if there’s been a career that has begun with more accolades in modern football

Darcy is wonderful.
But there is no way he should be winning the Copeland ahead of Nick.
Just have to wonder what this club is about. I get that we want to recognise all players, but this is just wrong.
Nick is the best player and should have the award.

Can’t believe this.
Settle. It's an award that rewards consistency. Darcy was more consistent this year.

Good speech from Fly. His love for the club and his wife is very clear!
The emotion he showed when he mentioned Scott Selwood was notable as well.
He really cares about the people at the club - it's not just window dressing.

Exactly. It’s like no one here remembers how the Copeland voting works.

It rewards players who play every week and players who play consistently well in those games. It’s why Pendles has totally dominated the award as he is probably the most consistently good/ great player of all time.

Darcy was consistently at his best or near best for every game he played this year. I thought Nick this season had more down games than he usually has. His best is unreal (hence Brownlow votes and media awards) but his consistency was down.

Darcy is a very deserving winner.

A night that celebrates club, season and player should not be reduced with many negative take downs and justifications of the take downs. Big shout out to the Collingwood club on and off field. The journey from 9th to 3rd was wonderful. A big shout out to Darcy for all your achievements, magnificent you are a pie. There is a lot to celebrate in terms of a changing of the guard and team improvement.
Go pies.

Have a look at all those little kids who reckon Jamie Elliott is the best player. He kicks goals. He takes hangers. They probably scratch their head wondering why he isn’t celebrated as Collingwood’s best player?

You would see the game a bit differently to those young kids, and understand why Jamie Elliott didn’t win the Copeland.

So wouldn’t it follow that the coaches see the game differently to you? Sure, they would understand why you see Nick as the best player. But in their more evolved opinion the best player is somebody else.

I remember the start of the season with Nick being heavily tagged, the terrible lack of consistency in the umpiring, and the mountain he had to climb. I can remember ranting that I don’t watch football to see great players targeted and visibly taken oof the play. It is football. Nick’s year to work through tags and tactics has been brilliant. Nick’s season had a slow start and was not as consistent. Nick could make me wince when possible back, foot and leg issues made moving painful. He is still a young player building his body and his craft. He is so good and getting better. Slam it next year Nick.

I think you're missing the point too. It's not about "best" player - none of the awards are. It's about who got the most votes under the Copeland voting system. Congratulations to Darcy.

How good was IQ this year? After a middling 2024, he came back with a vengeance, as recognised in the Copeland voting.

Love the way he goes about it. Doesn’t hide his off field interests in scents and fashion, even in the face of abuse from troglodytes. He’s the epitome of cool. And the haters must hate it, as he doesn’t flinch on the field. A truly modern footballer - and he’s all ours.❤️

My biggest takeaway from last night was becoming utterly confused again about how Elliott didn't get All Australian
The forwards who made it were all bloody good too - the issue was the 4 mids on the bench.
