Darcy is wonderful.
But there is no way he should be winning the Copeland ahead of Nick.
Just have to wonder what this club is about. I get that we want to recognise all players, but this is just wrong.
Nick is the best player and should have the award.

Can’t believe this.
isn't the voting different than 3-2-1 BOG voting, you get votes for games played, certain KPI's met during the season and other weird and wonderful things?

I’m so over that. Just pick the best player in a role.
I think it was better this year. They did pick an 18 this year based on roles, but that didn't seem to apply for the interchange - they were just the highest rated that they didn't get into the 18.

They spread out heaps of votes per game. It results in the bloke considered bog not getting 3 times the votes of the third best or infinity compared to the 4th best player. It rewards being consistently amongst the best, rather than just the standout.

That's a good approach in a team sport.

Yeah, I went over the top with my post. I’m happy for Cameron and sure that Nick is fine.

All good I just checked the time you would've been in party mode with Pragmatic Shill :thumbsu:

Copeland trophy voting has ended up with similar surprises in the past .

Nathan Buckley was seen as one of the best players in the league, was the only pies All Australian in 1997 and 2001 - yet was surprisingly behind Gavin Brown (1997) and Licuria (2001) in the Copeland.

Probably quite a few other examples over the journey. Ultimately not unheard of and definitely a different criteria and different values looked at compared to the the coaches awards and Brownlow.

I'm lost for words sometimes on this board. I can't believe people are congratulating Darcy with caveats. He's a winner, no ifs, buts or maybes. Well done to Darcy. A deserving winner.
Turn it right up if he's a better and more important player to our club and had a better season than Nick Daicos. The coaches should be embarrassed and are being rightly ridiculed for mentioning the Brownlow while giving Nick the bridesmaid award just because they wanted to reward our ruckmen . The guy is so far ahead of anyone else on our list it isn't even close. With our bog average midfield if he goes down early one season we would not make the 8. He is also the real leader and should already be the captain. The team looks to him to get the game back on our terms and produce the big play everytime. Put DC in west coast and they're still shit. Put Nick in west coast and I'd guarantee he'd drag them up the ladder like he did with us.

I was surprised when I heard Cornes and King having a crack at Quaynor late in the season regarding his year and I'm delighted to know I wasn't dreaming in believing it was a welcome return to form.

With the addition of Houston and move of Jaicos he was clearly given a more accountable role for most of the season and his first focus was shutting down an opponent rather than provide rebound.

If we do look to move Josh up field once again in 2026 and try to play through Houston more we may seem him go back to the balanced defensive/offensive role he pretty much nailed in our Premiership season.

P.S- Well done to Darcy Cameron on winning his first Copeland trophy. Poor old Nick can't even blame the umpires for this one. Josh stiff to finish below Perryman in 6th. The Daicii and Elliott were probably my top 3 for the season.

I have seen people say that Josh was responsible for goals kicked on him which may have been noticed by the coaches but I would have in the top 3 with Cameron and Nick as well.

As I stated. Peter and Colleen stormed out shortly after Fly's speech , to those who doubted what I stated 🖕

A quirky one to come out of B&F season. There were three ex Swans to win a B&F in 2025 Cameron, Dawson and Hewett. I’d love to say it’s going to be Jack Buller in 2026, but apparently if it isn’t Nick then Peter’s lodging a trade request on his behalf 😂

The story you’re quoting doesn’t actually back up what you said. But if you feel backed up by Tom Morris’ rumour spreading then go your hardest I guess

Not a fan of McRae making this kind of a statement less than a week after the fact, particularly given the storm in a teacup he created with his comments on the night.

I would like to see the clip. Was he asked directly about the voting system? Was it an offhand “we’ll look at it”? Not great messaging IMO

Agree with gouki88 that I'd love to see the context here.

At face value, I'm actually really annoyed at this comment. Feels completely unnecessary and is a bit of a slap in the face to DC.

Hate to say it, but this feels like we're devaluing DC's achievement.

It's not unprecedented that the Copeland winner has been a bit left field. Happened a few times in the late 90s/early 00s when Buckley was by far our best player but didn't always win the award.

This particularly. It's like an admission publicly, that they must have got it wrong.
DC warranted a win - he had a very consistently great year. Nick probably could have and should have won, but he did have some very quiet games when he was heavily tagged.

I think he's had a bit of foot in mouth disease lately. The Silvagni dating comments.
Then his remarks about the Brownlow, at the B&F.
Now this.

"A fool is known by his many words". Sometimes it's best not to say much at all.
