The ALP doesn't support gay marriage for one reason and one reason only: votes. The Churches are very powerful and if they say to all their members "don't vote for party X because they support gay marriage and this will destruct the fabric of our society" then a fair few people who would have voted for party X are going to listen.

Penny Wong has:

1. Shown she is a team player and has been strong to put aside her convictions to support the party.
2. What choice does she have? Libs? Worse than ALP when it comes to same sex marriage. Greens? Not the right career move for the ambitious. If you want to make a difference you have to be in one of the major parties. She will bide her time holding her tongue and I suspect soon she will have her day and gay marriage will be legalised.

Again, you display your simplistic "one way or the other, no in between" mentaliity.

I am not being simplistic at all. People raise these questions when people present contradictory stances on the same issues and again people cannot take Wong seriously on the issue because she has contradicted herself by remaining with the Labor party despite their views on her lifestyle and the right to get married. This is worse because the Labor Party has a long history of banning those who fail to show solidarity with the party on certain issues. Therefore people will always have questions over Wong and her ideologies based on this matter. Was a very popular topic for discussion at the time with many being critical of her. Your view on the Libs is somewhat distorted considering that despite the fact that they are supposedly worse on same sex marriage, the party doesn't hold crossing the floor in the same light of evil as Labor does.

As for your comments on the other posters, for someone who is so intelligent the fact you need to attack them rather than respond to them properly shows you are incapable of refuting them. It seems all who disagree with you are idiots, morons etc. Seems that others have made the same assertions but we all must be wrong cause according to you we're dumbasses.

Long story short on good Cops.

In 2010 I had a house fire & by the time it was put out it was 2am, way too late to ring someone to pick up myself & my dog, but the Firemen said I couldn't stay there, as there was no water, gas or electricity & most of the house was unsafe, except my bedroom & the front lounge.

The Cops wanted me to leave my dog there & they would find me emergency accommodation for the night, when I refused to leave without my dog, they drove me & my dog to the Police station. They gave me a coffee & a bowl of water for Kenny.

Unfortunately no emergency accommodation would take my dog, eventually they rang Dorset Gardens Hotel, who said they would give me & my dog a room for the night, free of charge.

It was a great room with a double bed & a single bed, Kenny was happy he had a bed of his own & didn't have to sleep on the floor.

A couple of days later, I took a slab of beer to the Police station.

So a big thumbs up to the Cops & Dorset Gardens Hotel.

Mostly Liberal fan-bois. typical political zealotry that exists with both die hard Liberal and Labor supporters. They are happy to take the line that justifies their political "footy" team no matter how much of a contradiction it is to their other beliefs.

Both our major parties have major flaws. Before you make assumptions: I'm a swinging voter. More closely aligned with Liberal political values but ALP social values. And if I were a politician Liberal would be the only party to consider as ALP have too many union powerbrokers who need to be appeased.

I've clearly refuted them. It's a desperate measure on your behalf to use this "but you are being abusive so you don't have an argument" excuse. My argument is evident and solid and just because it is intertwined with some sledging doesn't make it any less valid. Yours is a common excuse for weak people who can't accept they are getting owned on the internet. Maybe your better off going to Club Penguin and doing your social networking there?
