One of my absolute favourites , the epitome of a true footballer who played the game as it should be played.
Possession gathering half back who rarely lowered his colours , consummate professional
Composure personified - who else could get a possession wearing only the blue speedos and carry on as if nothing was different :p
I was at that game. Pretty sure that was Matty Egans last game as well.

Corey Enright said:
I got drafted way back in 1999 and not in my most wildest dreams could I have imagined what was to follow. But after 17 of the most enjoyable years of my life, I’ve decided to hang up my boots.

Three of the key things that have enabled me to play 332 games for this magnificent club are my family and friends, my teammates (many of whom now fit firmly into that first group) and you, the members and supporters of the Cats.

There have many been highs and lows, but the one thing that hasn’t changed is the unwavering support from the people I have mentioned above.

The opportunity to play alongside some truly incredible players is something I have never taken for granted.

I look forward to telling my sons about what it was like standing next to Scarlo or what it meant to run out with Lingy, Jimmy, Gaz, Smithy, Sel or the dozens of other guys that have been a part of my journey with the Cats.

There is plenty that I will miss as I move into the next phase of my life; the sound of a packed Kardinia Park, singing the song arm-in-arm with the boys and, most of all, getting to wear the blue and white hoops and carrying everything they represent onto the field each weekend.

Once again, thank you for your support over the years.

Go Cats!

I think we all suspected this news was coming, but it doesn't make it any easier or better to hear. A modern day great and he will be sorely missed.

I think it confirms the idea that Boris is going out at the top of his game, as it's been mentioned that since the game went national Boris is one of only 3 players to be named as an All Australian in their last year of playing, but the only one who has done so by personal choice. The other two are Matt Egan (injury) and Leon Davis (falling out at the Pies and neither WA team picked him up as he wanted to return to WA).

Soooooooo many memories of one of the GFCs greats. For me I still have clear picture of that run out from straight in front of the goal square in the 2011 GF. Straight run , marks , kicks to Scarlett and then the series of kicks ending with Bartel and goal. In some of the vision there is not a c'wood player to be seen.
Beautiful and graceful to watch, he mad it looi so easy.
Enjoy retirement the no 44.

After all the superlatives that have already been raised in this thread concerning the incomparable Boris, I'm left to simply add this one.

Nobody has ever played better for longer in the 157-year history of the hoops.

So privileged to have been watching footy at the right time to enjoy the entirety of his stellar career.

The prince of his position. And 'the best of the best in the best team of the AFL' not just once, but twice.

Others will fill his place in the first 18 next year. But he will NEVER be replaced.

Our #44 is destined to cast a bigger shadow over Kardinia Park than any stand ever could.

Just. Too. Good.

Thanks Corey. Simply thanks. It has been an absolute joy watching and knowing that you were on our side.

You have provided memories that will stick with me forever

Well done champion

What an unbelievable career. My favourite Geelong player ever.

Played at an outstanding level for longer than any other player in the hoops. There was a 6-7 year period where he would go through most games without getting beaten once in a contest, or make a single error.

Amazing player!

Farewell, Boris. Legend of the club and Australian Rules Football.

Who would have ever thought that a skinny boy drafted from a remote South Australian town would end up being the club's games record holder, have six All-Australian selections, two Cargi Greeves medals and three premierships to his name?

First there was disbelief.

Which moved onto denial.

Then annoyance.

Which transformed into sadness...

I know it's not often a done thing in the AFL, but is there a chance the club might look at retiring his #44, even for a year?

We retired the #2 for the season after Harley retired, and here we have our all time games record holder, 3 time premiership player, dual Carji winner, the equal 2nd most number of AA by a Geelong player, an automatic selection in our next team of the century and a future AFL hall of fame recipient.

Do we retire #44 for a even a season, or wish the best of luck to whichever kid is luckiest or maybe unluckiest to be wearing it next year?

Btw only Bartel, Mackie and Selwood remain from our 2007 GF team.
Today.
Let's see what transpires tomorrow?
Very sad but but the emotion after the prelim was a forewarner.
I recall an awesome display v Pies when he was a mid, the day Ling was smeared by Bucks.
Could have been a gun mid, but turned about to be the best hbf in history (biased, maybe).
Has left the best possible legacy, and I really hope we can entice him to remain at the club in any capacity.

Certainly the best small/mid sized defender of my generation and since I have watched footy. It's been a pleasure watching him play.

He made people notice how good he was, how smart he was, by the way he played and performanced for a very, very long time.

From all reports he is a great guy and was the ultimate professional by the way he acted around the club.

I wish him all the best, and that I have had so much fun watching him play, and play in the hoops at that! Enjoy your three flags, Boris.

It's a shame Thurlow didn't get to play with him this year.

Great player, one of my favourites to watch outside the Dees. Class until the very end and could easily have gone around again next season. 17 years in the competition and still playing at the same high level - sad to see him go.
