Yep, talls develop slower especially if they have had injury early in their careers. His first senior game was the last round of 2014 so his senior career is young

Fair enough, and i see your point, but i think we will have to agree to disagree.

So far into his career, I have not seen anything to suggest Gault has a significant future at AFL level - being a tall forward doesnt change that.
I was happy that Gault deserved another shot given his preseason, but he has shown nothing in these two games (on top of the last 2 seasons) to suggest that he can ever even finish 50-50 at his position.

I would take White every day of the week, but he is constantly ripped into by our fanbase. (although i admit that his NAB cup form meant that he also deserved to be coming back through the VFL)

I agree that White may be a better short term option but long term Gault in my opinion has far more upside. Happy to give him a month. Two weeks is bugger all.

Gault has zero upside.. he's shown nothing for a long time now. You can tell already he's soft, doesn;t have the talent or competitive nature to be a decent AFL key forward. Very lucky to still be on the list... incredibly lucky to ever get senior games. This will be his last year on our list.

Posters have been saying this for years.

Please don't tempt fate.

Fair enough give him a couple more weeks - it will be a mistake though. He got 3 games in a row last year. His 2 games this year have shown no improvement on that level. I see it pointless to continue giving him this spot, unless we have no other options. If either White or Witts were ready - I would bring one of those guys in. Gaults only saving grace is that he might be the only option at the moment. (although at this point - trialling Cox in one of the next 3 games might be worth a shot)

White is only 28. He is only 4 years older than Gault.

At the same stage of their careers (end-year 3) White had already played 20 games and kicked 18 goals and taken 77 marks and had 130 hitouts.
Complain about Gault all you want, but he is nowhere near White's level.

Let's say our "premiership window" is from 2017-2020.
If you asked me which of the above two guys will have more of an impact over those years - I would put all my chips on White - even if he retires at 30: 2 more years of a decent White will be better than 4 years of a not-AFL-standard Gault.

As I have said multiple times - I am glad Gault got his shot again, his NAB cup surely deserved it. But I am also a believer that a player only gets limited shots to show that they have a future at AFL level - "hope" doesn't pay the bills.

Cannot kick over 30 metres
Surprised nobody else has mentioned this. He literally shits himself from anywhere outside 30m kicking for goal. Had two opportunities from 50 last night, which any KPF worth their salt should be able to kick distance wise. First one he couldn't bring himself to take the shot and second didn't even make the distance.

At this point Cox would be better value as a forward. Still has his deficiencies, but at least he attacks the ball with some ferocity.

I think we need competitors with intensity.
Gault doesn't show it, however Cox sure as hell has it. He fights and wants to win and has enormous upside. That's why I was so disappointed when they put Gault in ahead.

think he would be more effective when thrown in the ruck. His height and leap with be difficult for the opposition.

What happened to all the Corey Gault fans in the preseason?

Gault has always been a spud his ENTIRE time at Collingwood

No he hasn't. Gaults pre-season form warranted him selection. Gault's issues are mostly up-stairs. If he brought his pre-season form to that game he would have been very good.

And what about Gault's crap performances in his past 5 years on the list? Or is that all forgiven because he snuck out the back and got a few cheapies in practice games?

You mean his preseason form of getting cheap goals out the back in a comp where defence is secondary?

Yeah, if defenders didn't defend during the season he would be a superstar.

I'm one of those who really backed his promotion.

Looks like he may have fooled us again. Oh well, Howe is there now and I guess we could always bring back...*gulp* Jesse White.

Can't we promote Cox due to Swan?

He took a few big contested marks, one running back with the flight of the ball, he was kicking bags of goals. His form certainly warranted selection. His current form doesn't. Simple. The only thing that complicates it s you justifying your bigfooty existence with an 'I told you so' moment.

Time to try Cox as the rotating ruckman. Takes a big defender to mind him and he will at least balance our centre square at the ball up. We got smashed in there last night. Totally smashed!
Grundy does his best work round the ground.
I have not written Witts off and I still think he will be a good ruck in time if he can be more aggressive
